Undertale
anybody else play this awesome game?
I just beat it today. It's great! Let's talk about it!!! |
oooh, a pacifist run, a slaughterhouse run or just a little of both?
|
pacifist!
I love games where killing is optional. |
then we have seen the same ending XD
dude, i am so uncomfortable with killing that even in games it bothers me a bit). i am debating hopping on youtube to see a non-pacifist ending since i heard comments about sans |
I'll probably do a KILL EVERYTHING playthrough next, just to see the different ending.
I don't have a problem with killing in games, but as a pacifist in real life I always prefer the pacifist route when one is offered. |
why don't you have a problem with it? it may be simulated but it is still killing
|
because nobody gets hurt in simulated killing! It's just ones and zeroes, colorful lights.
|
eh..... >x> i think you and i have different concepts of what constituents as 'hurt'
|
ehhh? I'm not sure in what way killing an NPC in a video game could be construed as hurting anybody; it's a computer program.
|
From what I've heard you should do the regular ending before you do the genocide ending, because the genocide ending does a bunch of fourth-wall-breaking stuff (that I won't spoil because it's awesome, but will significantly impact your ability to do another playthrough).
I understand the difference. Pacifism is more about nonviolence than it is about not killing. It's choosing to take the peaceful option, and not liking the feeling of doing violent things. Things not ending up dead is mostly a side effect -- a highly desirable one, yes, but sometimes being nonviolent LEADS to things ending up dead. |
It's been on my to play list.
I just refuse to buy it from Steam since I don't want to support their Steam service. |
Oh, there is an article I found on the choice thing...
(Is sort of the topic of the final paper of mine) How Players Engage with Moral Choice Systems I have not played or watched the game yet. It is on priority after things like Space Engineers and a non-crashing laptop... ...I sort of prefer to just turn people into stone...or cheese...usually because of contrived aggression in games like Skyrim...in Neverwinter Nights, after you petrified someone, it resulted in them becoming neutral again after you left the area and came back... What service do you use then, Illusion? (Only knows of Origin, Steam, and sites like Gamejolt) |

I like Steam. But, if you're that opposed, buy it straight from the website. It looks like it gives you a Steam key, but you can also direct download the game. http://undertale.com/
I finished my true pacifist ending on Sunday. I've been successfully guilted into never starting over and deleting my save because everyone is happy. T_T So I've been listening to the soundtrack and looking at fan art pretty much non-stop. And looking up spoilers for the Genocide ending. I love to know the lore, but there's no way I could play it myself. I could never bring myself to kill Papyrus. WHEN DO I GET TO MARRY PAPYRUS??? ...I get really emotionally attached to characters. Toby Fox did a great job at making meaningful characters with this game. @Anna There are actually quite a few variations on the neutral ending based on whether you kill some of the bosses. But all it really affects is who ends up as King/Queen of the underworld after you leave, and you don't really get to see it. I would maybe consider trying a genocide run if I were actually good at this game, but the sad truth is, I hit the minimum price of Temmie armor before I even left the village, and relied on it to carry me through my inability to dodge. I know in Genocide you actually gain stats which helps, but, with no early Temmie armor I doubt I could beat some of the tougher bosses. So I'll probably just watch a let's player do it so I can experience it a little more intimately than just reading forums and wikis. |
I didn't even know about the Temmie armor until after beating the game. I relied on bicicles to carry me through boss fights.

NAPSTABLOOOOK!
Ahem...Hello. |
Ehehe, obviously Blooky is Nevy's favorite character. I love Blooky too. I found a fan-made remix of his theme that was like, "What if Napstablook was the final Genocide boss instead of Sans?" It was so awesome.
LISTEN UP I really want to know, who is everyone else's favorite character? Mine is Papyrus. I love him the most. I was up later than I'd like to admit last night seeking out as much Papyrus fanart as I could. I didn't know how tumblr worked at all until this game. Please send help. |
Napstablook's my fav, but Undyne is awesome too. I also like Alphys, she's cute.

Just a friendly reminder to add some of your own commentary to your post as well. We like to keep discussion going around these parts. ;)
|
I hope watching a lets play counts cause I am too poor to afford the game. u.u I will just say I love toby fox. He is the same breed of andrew hussie and I love all the details in this game so far. They may have even converted me over to puns since they are so clever with them.
|
Toby Fox is pretty cool! He makes great music, especially. I freaked out when I first heard Megalovania start playing! I love that song, I wasn't expecting it to be in the game though! :D
|
XD Am I the only one that thinks of Vriska when they see Undyne?
I am not sure if I have gotten to that part of the video yet. The player is pretty ecstatic about the game but I usually can't hear the sound track over his commentary or voice imitations. I plan on listening to the whole thing by itself. |
I suppose she's kind of Vriska-like.
a lot less of a jerk though. |
Lol so I sort of got to the end of the game. xD I am thoroughly amused and think those two are cute.
|
Blaarg!1 I want to play this game, but I don't want to use Steam to play it. I wish there was another way! D:
|
...what's wrong with Steam? o.o

oh, wait, hold on.
http://undertale.com/ you can buy the game directly from Toby Fox, DRM-free, on that website. |
Yeah Illu, I told you earlier too. :P Just buy it right from the website, it's SO worth it.
Poggy, I'm glad you're at least watching it if you can't play it yourself. Definitely watch at least a pacifist and a genocide playthrough. They're so different and show opposite sides of the story. |

So I can just give the Steam code away? |
if you're not going to use it and you don't have any moral complications about it. >_>
|
I just went on a date with a skeleton and we couldn't make out on the skeleton's Race Car bed.
THIS GAME SUCKS! I fell head over heels for this skeleton and my heart was shattered when the skeleton told me no. D: edit: No this game is awesome. I'm sorry. I really wanted to date that skeleton. <3 |
haha, I'm glad you're enjoying it! XD
|
I've almost completed my first playthrough, I haven't killed a single thing. I think I maybe ate a living carrot but I didn't get any exp.
I love how every problem can be avoided with words and pleading not to fight. Ever since the first lady, she showed that every fight can be won this way. It's been a pain in the butt a few times but I'm almost done. I just hate the fact I don't level up whatsoever and I remain weak. Am I supposed to fight general monsters but stay friends with the bigger ones? |
I don't want to spoil anything for you, but I will say that it's possible to beat the entire game without gaining any EXP. You'll end up relying on healing items a lot, because you won't gain any LV, but it's worth it in the end. ;)
|
Don't fight the weaker monsters. They're your friends too. You're doing great, Illu. <3 You just get really good at dodging eventually, and if you're in SERIOUS trouble it's not too hard to get the OP Temmie armor if you're dying a ton. Once I bought it, I never died until the final boss, though, so if I were to do it over again I would just rough it out.
I'm also so glad to hear you're a Papyrus fan, too. I WAS SO UPSET HE TURNED ME DOWN! I seriously think Papyrus is the first ever fictional character I actually seriously for real wanted to be my boyfriend. I'm so in love with him. Did you go back to Undyne's house and make friends with her? |
