Dark Souls 3

So, I searched a little nd didnt see a thread, Im curious on who us a ds fan here.

So why dont we start with favorite boss and most hated.

My favorite boss would probably have to also be the one i hate the most xD The nameless king fight... its so nerve racking but his design is so neat!

Suzerain of Sheol 07-27-2016 08:36 PM

Lorian and Lothric are easily my favorite boss, they took me on a journey from getting utterly wrecked by them to knowing every single one of their tells and completely mastering the fight. Plus, I love their lore.

Least favorite/most frustrating, I'd probably have to say, well actually let's separate those. Least favorite was by far goddamned Yhorm the Giant. I was so hyped for that fight from the opening cinematic and it was such a complete letdown.

Most frustrating for me was the Ancient Wyvern. I hated everything about the Dragon Shrine and I missed him the first time I finally made it to the platform where you plunge on his head.

Then there were bosses like the Dancer and Aldrich where I had wildly different experiences with them on my second playthrough. I beat them both in one try on my first run and then had to get help to get past them on my second (different character, not NG+).

Quiet Man Cometh 07-29-2016 12:44 AM

Yhorm.

Based entirely on cut-scenes because I haven't actually played the game and involving no battle mechanics at all, Yhorm.

I've gotten as far in Dark Souls to be annoyed with Black Knights and that's about it.

Natsunaine 07-29-2016 02:14 PM

Yhorm, Is actually quiet disappointing they give you a weapon that takes out his health 1/5 at a time, and all you have to do is stay under his feet. Though the cut scene's do make it look difficult.

Suzerain of Sheol 07-29-2016 05:30 PM

I mean, I guess if one were to "get good", one could fight him without using Stormruler, but even then it would just be tedious and annoying, it's not like his attacks are hard to predict. He only has like 3. Total letdown of a boss. Even the Giant Lord in DS2 was more imposing imo.

Natsunaine 07-29-2016 05:33 PM

Exactly my thoughts, I actually got bored once and fought him without stormruler... It was so annoyingly easy, and that's saying something for DS. Simply because it's usually the exact opposite annoyingly difficult xD

Quiet Man Cometh 07-31-2016 04:18 AM

I guess I should specify, it's the opening sequence of the game I'm thinking of. I saw a clip of the actual approach and battle and yeah, it's meh.

ml1201 08-01-2016 10:57 AM

I've been watching Gamegrumps play it, and dear god Arin is bad. x'D He picked a pyromancer and not even using it as a pyromancer. Silly Arin. I'm playing the first one myself, though its rough going because a friend of my brother's that wanted to play with me as a tank kept getting herself killed because she didn't pay attention to her health when she has healing spells. =.=; Then they would agro on me and kill me. When through like 10 humanity because of that bull. Not to mention instead of trying to kite enemies she'd just run in head long because she's a 'tank'. *facepalm*

Quiet Man Cometh 08-03-2016 07:26 PM

I'm a little ways into the first one as well. I started with a knight because that suited my character concept better, but I later re-made her as a warrior and that's suited my play style better. I have DS2, DS3 has not yet been on for cheap enough for me to buy it.

ml1201 08-03-2016 08:28 PM

I don't have the other two yet, and I started with deprived. XD My brother's friends were horrified, including the one playing as a tank and agroing everything. >>;

Alistair Fawkes 08-28-2016 11:30 PM

Oh I'm definitely a Dark Souls fan. I love 3. I have the soundtrack, even. The first DLC is supposed to drop in September, I believe. You bet I'll be on it. I play on PS4 if anyone wants to team up. I'll give you my PSN name.

ml1201 08-29-2016 12:25 PM

I don't have a PS4 sadly, if I play it will probably be on PC. ^^; (has controller so all good).

Alistair Fawkes 08-29-2016 12:41 PM

I should start playing more games on PC. But I'd have to build a PC.

I'd love to be able to mod games like Fallout 4. They were SUPPOSED to be on PS4 already. But nooooooo...

ml1201 08-29-2016 02:03 PM

Another reason why I prefer PC. ^^; I didn't put much into this computer, just upped the power supply, graphics card and memory for me, and I bought stuff that was on sale. So using the computer I already had I spent about $200-300 upgrading it. I can't play everything on the best graphics ever, but I don't need super awesome graphics to enjoy a game (plays shovel knight after all).

Natsunaine 08-29-2016 08:37 PM

I loved watching arin play though it was funny xD

Ive played all the ds games so far including demon souls. They are all pretty amusing. I usually go for a light armor warrior with a small kite. Ds3 i have fallen knights set with a pretty decent sheild and elenora a battle axe xD

I know the struggle with playing alongside tanks xD they get brave and tend to thinm they are invincible

Alistair Fawkes 08-29-2016 11:08 PM

I play with light armor, the Farron Greatsword and Pyromancy. I'm on like.. playthrough 3. Souls level 300-something. I can't quite remember. I'm pretty OP I think. I farmed the last boss a ridiculous amount.

I thong-knight it up on weakling enemies. They cannot kill what cannot die.

Lol.

ml1201 08-31-2016 12:03 AM

The character I've gotten the furthest with in the first one is a deprived character, which is also my first character. owo So I'm doing a dex/stamina build with a splash of magic and some vitality. So I usually use a shield and a fast blade. I liked using hidden body and hidden weapon on some of the black knights. x'D

Alistair Fawkes 08-31-2016 02:09 AM

I believe they've released the trailer for the first DLC? I haven't watched it myself yet. In 1 and 2 I've always played the "flaming swordsman" type of character. And I absolutely love the moveset of the Farron Greatsword.

I'm hoping they'll add 1 or 2 cool new Pyro spells when it releases. I'm looking forward to dying to a boss 100 times and then pretending I face-rolled it when people ask how it was.

ml1201 09-01-2016 03:05 PM

I think I've seen it, though it did show some things that were in the game already. Like the storm guy, you can get to him without the DLC.

Natsunaine 09-01-2016 03:27 PM

It was showing off more of the new skills and armors/weapons more than anything.

Yes, alistar there will be a few new pyromancies and other spells to tinker with!

Side note- i started a new mage and oh my... I took the first boss out in 4-5 hits without even a small scratch

Alistair Fawkes 09-01-2016 05:57 PM

Sorcery has always been pretty OP if I remember right. XD I dunno why I don't roll more sorcery. Those Crystal Soul spears do SO much damage. I just can't give up my pretty flamey pew-pews. >.<

Natsunaine 09-01-2016 11:19 PM

Im flying through...I like it but i dont. Its frustrating that it took me so long on my warrior build. Only to fly through with magics

Alistair Fawkes 09-02-2016 10:28 PM

I tried with a full-mage, I felt kinda the same way. I just can't get beyond how much I love my current set. I'm pretty set with it. The only way I can see it changing is if one of the new fire spells is just so good I have to have it.

But I roll with Farron Greatsword/Dancer's Blades, and I always have Chaos Fireball. I have enough Faith for Sunlight Spear, so I take that and the spell that removes status effects. Other than that it's Power Within and Warmth.

Suzerain of Sheol 12-13-2016 02:06 AM

I don't know if anyone's still playing this, but I need to vent.

So I'm on like my 8th playthrough now doing a dex/int build with Friede's greatscythe, and for a while it was going really well. Iudex, Vordt, Tree, Sage, Deacons, Abyss Watchers, and Wolnir all went down in one try each.

And then I just spent 7 hours and over 100 deaths on Pontiff goddamned Sulyvahn. I don't know what it is about that guy, but he is absolutely the hardest boss in the entire series for me. Nameless King is a joke comparatively.

So it was basically just hours upon hours of muscle-memorizing every single little goddamned twitch move he would make so I could perfect dodge. Ended up running both carthus rings and chloranthy with 26% weight for maximum ninja. By the end of it, I was pretty damned good at dancing around him but it just took forever. I don't know if they buffed his health/defense, or what, but I seriously had to whack him over 50 times with my scythe to finally kill him.

And from reading around online, apparently most people have a pretty easy time with him. I guess a shield really helps, but I'm allergic to those. Anybody else have a boss like that from this series?

Natsunaine 12-13-2016 04:32 PM

Other than the namless king, I would have to say the dragon slayer armor

Suzerain of Sheol 12-13-2016 06:51 PM

I do have a hard time with Dragonslayer Armor sometimes, which is annoying because he seems like a really easy boss, he only has like five different attacks, but his reach and aggression can definitely catch me off-guard at times.

Also Blackflame Friede in the DLC was another one that gave me an insanely hard time. The first two phases are pretty easy for me, but I'm just so afraid of her in her final form that I can almost never get a hit in on her before she inevitably kills me. So far I've only beaten her with Chaos Vestige spam, which feels a little like cheating.

ml1201 12-15-2016 01:22 PM

It's not cheating if the game lets you, its more a matter of pride that makes you think that. I personally don't have DS3 but I do know in general that boss is pretty hard to kill.

Natsunaine 12-15-2016 02:53 PM

See i agree with DSA not being that hard to track, my issue is i always circle the bosses looking for openings its my method and with dsa the area is so limited 90% of the time his attacks throw me off the edge. I unfortunately broke my copy of ds right before i was about to purchase the new dlc this week, I feel over while trying to switch out games because i hot extremely light headed due to a medical issue...

And poof...Gone

Suzerain of Sheol 12-15-2016 03:06 PM

Oh, that's awful, I'm sorry to hear that. The DLC was a little short, but the boss is one of the best of all time.

I think I've only been knocked off by the DSA once or twice, he usually gets me with his shield, at least until I perfect-memorize his patterns.

And yeah, about things feeling cheap to me, I came to the conclusion last night that I really do make this game harder on myself than I probably need to. There's a lot of strategies I just refuse to use cause they feel like they circumvent the boss mechanics to me. I always want to be able to beat them by outplaying them at their own game, learning their attacks and then dodging/punishing... which usually leads to me getting pasted over and over. :P

Natsunaine 12-15-2016 03:18 PM

Ive seen, Well i guess more read, About a certain boss that has three staged which is the one im guessing you mentioned qnd from the sound of what i have heard of that boss im glad i started a mage xD

Suzerain of Sheol 12-15-2016 04:57 PM

She has three forms you have to fight in a row like the Nameless King, the first one is pretty fair, she's easily stagger-able and her only real trick is going invisible and trying to backstab you. The second form adds a second boss to the encounter, but they share a lifebar. Once you learn the patterns of the new boss, it's pretty simple to bait him into a corner and devastate his health.

But the third form. *shudders* She gets resurrected by the abyss-flame and just goes completely insane. Every single hit is practically a 1-shot and she's insanely fast and hard to read. And she has this execution grab where she basically just scissorses your head off with her two scythes that is... admittedly, worth seeing at least once. :P

I still want to beat her on an up-close character, but I haven't managed it yet.

Oh, and in all of her forms she has this ridiculously-huge ice field aoe that frostbites you and then explodes for massive damage. It's super annoying to deal with.

ml1201 12-15-2016 05:27 PM

My friend was hunting down the new spells, one of them is like what the tree ladies do, and he was telling me about a faith spell he's got that throws a disc. So an invader tries to kill him, he uses the spell, guy dodges spell. What the invader apparently didn't realize is that the disc comes back like a boomarang, and if you can catch it correctly you can keep throwing it for a while. XD That invader was dumbfounded, getting killed by the light disc. XD

Suzerain of Sheol 12-15-2016 05:29 PM

Wow that's pretty impressive. Especially considering Way of White Corona is widely considered to be the most useless spell in the game by most of the community. :P

Maybe people just need to figure out how to use it properly.

ml1201 12-15-2016 05:32 PM

So you know which spell I mean then. XD My friend was saying how under estimated the spell is, he had so much fun trolling invaders with it. XD Wish he could have recorded it so I could ahve seen it. XD

Suzerain of Sheol 12-15-2016 05:40 PM

Speaking of invasions, I was helping Quiet's new character through the High Wall of Lothric last night, after dumping a bunch of endgame rings and DLC weapons on her brand new assassin, when we got invaded by this guy dual-wielding those caestus fist weapons. I don't think he was quite expecting that, he might not have even been familiar with Friede's Scythe I was using, cause I completely ate him alive with the weapon art. It gives ridiculous hyperarmor during its combo, which is not very common on Dex weapons.

We... don't usually do that well when we get invaded, especially without a blue-bro to back us up. Though I'm usually helping her on my pyromancer, which... apparently people are REALLY good at dodging those spells lol. Go figure, with how much damage they do.

ml1201 12-16-2016 12:32 AM

Yeah, hearing the spells as a pyromancer my friend uses, they do a TON of damage. x'D

Suzerain of Sheol 12-16-2016 12:45 AM

It's all about those Chaos Bed Vestiges. Good thing pvp'ers are good at dodging them, cause they tend to be a 1shot if they connect. :P

Suzerain of Sheol 12-16-2016 05:08 PM

Double post, but... after all the trouble I've been having with this playthrough, I just beat the Nameless King in like five tries, two of which were getting killed by the camera in phase 1. I don't think he even hit me on the run I beat him on. I don't understand anything. @_@

Quiet Man Cometh 12-17-2016 01:42 AM

Yeah, invasions don't usually go so well, especially since my tactic is to turtle behind Suze or the blue bro when he shows. I do help...on occasion.

Alas, a bit of overenthusiastic boss runs have left both my characters lost and alone in areas we haven't completed yet. Oops.

On the...side of it, maybe I can improve a little since I won't have company, or get really good at running.

Although, considering I spent a portion of our last adventure trying to hit a chair with an estoc, it might be a bit much to hope.

Suzerain of Sheol 12-17-2016 04:59 AM

Okay, so, was running around the Archives, found a random summon sign for a whitebro, we were doing pretty well, killed the angels, went in to fight L&L, and then... he didn't come in. Don't know if he was trolling me, or if the host has to solo Lorian? Gotta say, I gave a pretty impressive showing of taking on 200% HP Lorian with only 3 estuses left, but he got me when I had him down to 20% of his life.

Oh well. Such is the game.
