Getting Bigger and Bigger
They are! The mosquitoes are getting bigger and bigger with each passing year. I know in some states these things are bigger than the ones in Ohio but this is the first time I've seen one THIS big in my area
if I had enough hands i'd so take a tape measure to that booger and take a pic... when I was little, these things weren't this big D8 stop growing!!! starting to look like the bugs from Jumanji Dx |
That's not a mosquito. That's a crane fly, which commonly gets CONFUSED for a giant mosquito, but they eat plants instead of being animal parasites.
|
I know they are harmless but they always freak me out when they come flying in my house XD
|
OAO not a mosquito? -stares at it even more- its still on mah screen
|
Nope! Not a mosquito! Completely harmless, unless you're green.
|
AAAHHHH put that under a spoiler tag aaaahhh
-runs around in circles- I dislike all fly/mosquito lookalikes because I'm terrified of aedes aegypti and getting zika or other diseases :( |
-puts it in a spoil tag- o3o better?
@Coda: MAH ALOE IS IN DANGER D8 that's what its after isn't it! >:o |
That's not impossible. I don't know exactly WHAT kinds of plants crane flies eat.

/sobbing less
Thank you Demonskid ;__; Also I've been bitten recently and I'm mildly freaking out. Hoping it's not zika. |
It's EXCEEDINGLY unlikely. Zika has only just entered the US -- there are only 43 reported cases across the entire country of 320 million people. Unless you live in the very southernmost tip of Florida or on one of the non-state island territories, mosquito-borne Zika is essentially NOT going to happen to you.
Honestly, Zika paranoia is doing more damage to people than Zika itself. |
Coda... I live in Brazil xD So it's more likely than it is for you guys :(((((
|
Oh. I didn't know that. ^^() I'm sorry!
Yes, if you live in Brazil, that does very much change the situation. :( |
-glances at wrist-
Welp, I just got bit by /something/. |
I hope you didn't catch anything mdom! D8
-stares at espy- o3o you'll be fine yes.. |
I like crane flies, I remember them being our camper a lot when I was a kid. Not sure if I'm right, but I recall that they made a dull sort of "clack" noise at times, not unlike a dragon-fly but not so sharp. They are a little wiggy though if you try to hold on to them.

I'm frankly more afraid of my dogs getting diseases from them, than myself. And ticks. Ticks suck. Ticks can take a long walk off a short pier into boiling water.
|
I got bit by a mosquito once. It was at the point I realized I probably had some allergy to it, cuz I swelled up huge from one tiny little mark. I decided to glaze my skin with laminate after that, now they just slide right off! Only downside is... now I'm a MONSTER! A MONSTEEEEERRR!!
(Based on a True Story) |
Pretty much EVERYONE is allergic to mosquito bites -- the itchy bump is an allergic reaction.
That said, I'm more allergic than most, because mine weep and ooze. @.@ It's RIDICULOUSLY itchy, too. |
We get those everywhere here in Idaho during summer. I've heard they actually eat mosquitoes. We call them Mosquito Eaters.
|
Coda, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CLARIFYING THIS D:
Every time we leave my patio door open those things come in and ugh..gosh. So huge. So creep. |
