Gashapon!
I'm sorry, the announcement calling it a Gumball Machine bugs me.. ^^, The machines that give out prizes like that are called Gasha or Gashapons (Gacha Machines here in my area) Gumball Machines have.. GUMBALLS.. that kill your jaw... x-x omg those evil gumballs...
But yea.. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW ADDICTIVE THOSE THINGS ARE D:<!!! Why would you do this to me Staff?! Now give me all your Silver Coins to feed my Gashapon Addiction >->, |

I totally had a thing for these machines when I was a kid, especially ones that spat out stickers or sticky hands. Or balls of goo. |

My favorite things from those machines, was always the little capsule everything was kept in. I dubbed them anything from "item lottery" to "gacha ball things" to "that thing which has random stuff in it."

I still call them gumball machines. Even though only one of eight actually had gumballs in them.

Southern thing maybe? Cause vending machines are the ones with Coke in them while gumball machines are the turny ones. I never heard of Gacha machines til…. about 2 months ago

I honestly had never called them gachapon. Didn't even know that gachapon was a real thing until I saw it used outside of one of my other sites....
I just called them toy or sticker machines if they didn't have gum. (Still do really.) |
gashapons are best! i've paid a pretty penny for some imported ones, but i've got some good stuff. like....bananas...with faces xD i'll try to take a photo of those when it's light out.

There used to be one in the store I worked at that had really tiny ducks. Like rubber sucky style, but different themed ones. And also duck stickers.
I think I got 2 or 3 of the ducks before they removed it. |
okay...it's not light out, but i needed to put up one of the bananas that fell down a few weeks back, so i took photos of the ones i have in my curio cabinet.
i have more, they are just stored away since i haven't had a chance to put them in the curio. edit: these are all legit japanese gashapons i bought off a site that took forever to get here. even have some zombie ramen from one order xD (blue ramen noodles...couldn't resist!) |

the bananas ARE super weird, but they totally make me laugh, especially the laying ones. and awwww. they sold out quick :< and just as if you were playing the machine yourself, it's random. i ordered the last 5 of a dragonball z series, in hopes of getting the evil cat guy and ended up with 3 of the same thing and 2 of another, which sucks since they were i think $3 each >__> i have some really cute halloween cat ones packed up. i'm only missing one of that series, but i had a hard time even getting the 6 i did get. those sold out within hours. i think i got one dupe that i sent to a good friend of mine |

The only thing I've gotten from the machines with any regularity are the key chains with little plush animals on them. The first was a little white mouse I called "Thor" because he was totally NOT a Thor. The collection expanded:
Fudge, the dog. (Picked up at the movie theater after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) Simon, the tiger. Captain Jack, the parrot. (I picked him up at the same theater, Pirates of the Caribbean this time) Tammy, the white goose. Cyrano de Bergiraffe, the...giraffe. (He had a very long face) |

Where do you guys even get these things? I know there are gumball machines next to several bus stops or in supermarkets, but the stuff you can win there isn't nearly as detailed.

I uh...don't get them anywhere. Good gachapon stuff doesn't really exist here. Unless you want tiny cheaply made plastic monkey and dog toys.
I am definitely curious as to where they get stuff like that, too. |
I remember when I was on student exchange in France they had a nice machine in one of the markets. Brought my aunt a painted wooden duck figurine from it.

We have some Gacha machines here at my local grocery store. I like collecting the stickers, memes and fake tats >w>, (THEY HAVE GRUMPY CAT MEME CARD THINGERS!) When I was little I always ALWAYS had to get those rubber sticky hands.. =w= mom hated them haha! |
