Yarnaholics Anonymous

Hi. My name is Kaderin and I am a Yarnaholic. I have more yarn than I'll probably ever use in a lifetime, but every time I walk into a store with yarn, I want more. I try to justify my purchases by buying multiple skeins in the same color for "a blanket" or "a hat and scarf set" but I never make those things. I just want to hoard the pretty yarns. My friends don't help either. They encourage me to buy yarn or they show me pictures of pretty yarns I don't have, which only makes me want to buy more!
Help!
XD
Although, I have been really good. I have resisted the urge to buy yarn from my favorite online store despite them having their big yarn sale last week (ends today), even though some of my favorite yarns were 50-60% off...

Boris 11-21-2017 02:50 PM

I encourage you to use the yawn.

Coda 11-21-2017 02:51 PM

I totally know the feeling. That stuff is dangerously addictive. XD I have buckets full of crafting supplies.

That's great! That way, she can use the yarn and make stuff!

Kaderin Triste 11-21-2017 03:11 PM

Lol.
You guys are great!

Boris: I do actually have 3 blankets, 1 stuffed fox, and 3 scarves in progress. With one more fox I need to start once I empty the loom in use.
I actually should get up and work on the mermaid blanket before work. It's pretty close to done and I want to finish it soon.

When I am in the mood to crochet I always want yarn. I've so far made 4 twin sized afghans. Two went to friends and the other two I kept. I've made a few scarves a few hats. One scarf my guinea pig loves to cuddle with, so it's hers now.I have made my own messenger bag too. I used the colors of Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony. I used plastic sheets between layers of yarn and cloth lining to keep it upright and velcro to keep it closed, and Twilight's cutie mark in felt sewn on the front flap. I haven't done much in the way of non-wearable things, like stuffed animals or anything though. Though I did knit pieces for a My Little Pony doll and sewed it all together when I first learned to knit. I prefer crochet though.

Kaderin Triste 11-21-2017 05:32 PM

I really do need to pick back up on crochet. I do loom knitting, which is nice because I don't lose my place on big projects if I forget about them for months...
I tend to only work on projects if I legitimately have a strict deadline or of I feel like it. Unfortunately, I have been really tired lately and just haven't been as motivated to work on stuff...
I do have a lot of yarn that I bought specifically for blankets, but I need to free up some looms. And also decide if I want to do a fancy stitch pattern or not.

I'd like to see your work too!

Kaderin Triste 11-21-2017 08:04 PM

I'll dig through my images after the boss leaves work and see what I have uploaded for recent things...I think, other than stuffed animals, my last finished projects were christmas presents for last year.

Boris 11-21-2017 11:24 PM

I can hardly wait!

Okay here it is, I forgot I had it on Deviant art XD

Kaderin Triste 11-22-2017 01:41 AM

That's pretty adorable!
I haven't been brave enough to attempt a bag yet.

Boris 11-22-2017 02:49 AM

Oh, wow! That's impressive!

Oh wow! I wanna pay you to make my sister one, but I have commissions planned and no money!

Derpy McBlueEyes 11-22-2017 02:59 AM

Haha, thanks. Most of the stuff I make is generally pretty simple. But apparently over the last 12 months, I've been doing more complex stuff. XD
The scale gloves/gauntlets are actually pretty easy, though a bit time consuming to make, and not exactly cheap either.
If I can afford it and it won't weigh too much, I actually want to try making a scaled weighted blanket next year. I need to find an appropriate garter stitch blanket pattern and factors in extra rows for trim to keep the scales away from skin, then I can do math to calculate quantity of scales I'll need and how much they'll weigh.

Crystalkitsune85 11-22-2017 03:10 AM

Sheesh that was like.. a couple years ago. I stopped using mine cus it *does* have a flaw. It tends to get flipped over occasionally and when it does things can fall out. I actually lost my wallet cus if that X_X. But I think with more tweaking it could actually work well as a bag.

Boris 11-22-2017 03:22 AM

Derpy, I didn't know you knitted too! Actually, I wanna do art of Derpy knitting now!

Kaderin Triste 11-22-2017 03:40 AM

Lol.
Derpy says he also wants to learn crochet too.

Das aDORKable. A lil drago? I think I can make things kinda like that if I just do a single or double crochet stitch and make the pieces separate and sew em together.

Coda 11-22-2017 11:11 AM

Those scales are amazing.

I saw your post about the bag. I am unsure how it is possible. I do encourage you to do more knitting and crocheting activities.

Kaderin Triste 11-22-2017 01:10 PM

Crystal: Yep, Derpy is my little Dragon baby. And also a trisphee item because I begged for it...
XD

Coda: Thanks! It took me a while to actually figure out how to do it on my looms. I actually want to make a new pair of gloves for myself because my old ones are a little snug and too long in the finger/hand area. And also have some flaws. But they are actually one of my favorite projects to make as long as I don't have a short deadline to get them done in.

Boris: Derpy waddles over and pats your foot. "It okay, I make you a Cwismas pwesent!"

Boris 11-22-2017 01:41 PM

Bends over and pats Derpy's head "Thanks little guy! I reay appreciate it!"

Derpy is a cute item.

The bag I made, I did in sections. So the front, the back, two sides, bottom and then the flap. Then sewed it all together. I crocheted two colors together at the same time for a stronger strap. After I finished that, I lined it with fabric so things ( like pens) didn't fall through the holes. Between the layer of yarn and fabric is plastic sheeting. Like what those reusable cutting boards are made of. They work really well. That helped it stay upright. Then the front is held together with pink velcro.

Boris 11-22-2017 05:41 PM

Oh, that makes sense.
