Holy Crapspackle Good Gentles!! Have you seen them!? Which one do you want most?

I am seriously just in crazy awe of these <3 Everyone that worked on them did such an amazing job!!

I'm already itching to get my hands on that Heir of Tide item, but holy crap I have to own all of them

Panda 01-16-2018 02:27 AM

They are pretty freaking awesome! I want them all, but still need most of the previous ones...and still can't donate often...and never see anyone actually selling them...(though, admittedly, I don't check shops often).
XD
Lol.
I am determined to get all the elemental ones though!

mdom 01-16-2018 02:10 PM

First of all I'm extremiely disappointed none of them have any rainbow poses
BUT DAYUM IF THEY'RE NOT AWESOME!!
My faves are the Faith vitrals *___* and the magma skins. I love the full fish skins too. Hmmm skins.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 02:16 PM

To make up for this error, the next monthlies should be 100% rainbow!

mdom 01-16-2018 02:18 PM

AGREED! Donations guaranteed from me xD

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 02:20 PM

Probably from me too, if I have the money...
But only if there's a good jewel tone rainbow. We always have pastel and neon, but I would KILL for a good jewel tone rainbow...(like all the good food named colors like Mustard, Raspberry, Plum, but also Emerald, Sapphire, you know, good dark jewel tone colors!) *is possibly thinking of something different/using "jewel tone" incorrectly...*

Gallagher 01-16-2018 02:55 PM

Our dark rainbow is referred to as "Oilslick", and it has been a very fun addition to our line of potential surprise options. Our current pastel is "Tie-dye", and the vibrant I call standard rainbow, just so that's out there also.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 02:56 PM

Wait...so does Oilslick actually exist on current items and I'm blind?

Gallagher 01-16-2018 02:59 PM

It does, but as it's a newer addition to our lineup, there aren't as many items that use it.

Above, Oilslick shirt and Oilslick hair

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 03:08 PM

Eh....that's more a normal rainbow with a thin layer of black/grey over it to me than what I was hoping for.
*pouts forever*
It's hard to find exactly what I'm referring to with "dark" or "jewel tone" rainbow, but kind of more like some of these...

More muted emerald greens, golden yellow, crimson red, fuschia type colors...
I feel like I'm really just nitpicking here, you guys work hard to bring us rainbows...
Feel free to tell me to stfu and get out...
XP

Gallagher 01-16-2018 03:14 PM

I can toy with the idea, but I make no promises. It may be the sort of thing that would need its own overlay, as Tie-dye has. Standard and Oilslick use the same overlay with differing bases beneath them.

And, honestly, the next major overlay I've been hoping to have made was for Galaxy rather than another rainbow. But, what happens happens.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 03:15 PM

Lol. Galaxy is acceptable.
XD

Gallagher 01-16-2018 03:22 PM

Again, we'll see. While I have no current plans to add to the full color lineup, I quite like experimenting with patterns and overlays and the like.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 03:27 PM

I mean, it's no rush on it (and it's not the end of the world if it ends up not happening) I just love the more jewel tone rainbow colors because I'm an odd-ball.
XD
(Thank you for putting up with me!)

Gallagher 01-16-2018 03:30 PM

Nah dude, I'm there with you. Those are my preferred sorts of colors as well.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 03:31 PM

My new bestie!

Illusion 01-16-2018 03:33 PM

Loving water and earth.

Will the eyes and hair from some of the items make it to the shops?

Gallagher 01-16-2018 03:46 PM

modified versions may. i have an entire list of things made for this set that need alts or were cut entirely for commons, so if you have anything specifically you'd like to point out, might as well go ahead so there's less chance i'll forget about it.

Just note when you suggest "Jewel Tone" there is no clear universal defining way of identifying what Jewel looks like. A lot of the colors shown in those dresses already exist in Trisphee's color sets, or at least have colors very close to them.

Try and pick the colors you want and get a CMYK or RBG code for it. That might help Galla out.

mdom 01-16-2018 03:50 PM

GALAXY! GALAXY! GALAXY!

This is true as well. For those rare items that have manual rainbowing applied (which is entirely different from overlay rainbows), getting such an effect would be relatively easy. The yellow can be managed from either darkest yellow or lightest brown, the purple would be a mid-dark violet, and pink and teal midtones of their respective shades.

but items with manual rainbow applied are rare, and not something i'm likely to go out of my way to apply myself unless it's a special circumstance. for as much editing and recolor work as i do, i'm still not a pixelist and there are a lot of cases where really detailed gradient application requires more skill than i have.

I was really just giving examples of what I think of as "jewel tone" rainbow colors, as opposed to the current Oilslick dark rainbow that we have, not asking for specific colors. Especially since we were discussing overlays and not specific individual colors.
Thank you, though, for your suggestion. When I have time and access to a computer with internet (which is far easier to use than my phone for certain tasks), I likely will find and suggest more specific colors for the rainbow.

Gallagher 01-16-2018 04:09 PM

hey, also, if y'all wanna play with making overlays for me to try using, you can feel free. a nice big image with colors, patterns, or designs on it, as long as it's uniquely made by you and not pulled off the web somewhere.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 04:12 PM

Is there like....a specific program that should be used or can we legit just draw/color something?

Gallagher 01-16-2018 04:27 PM

you can legit just draw/color something

for reference, my rainbow overlays look like this

larger/more varied images give me more to work with

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 04:33 PM

Does it need to be on a computer or can it be done by hand? (Probably would use a computer, but just curious.)

Illusion 01-16-2018 04:38 PM

If you can make up amazing metal overlays, you will be my God.

Gallagher 01-16-2018 04:45 PM

i'm not sure how metal would work, since it needs the shine to follow the shape of the item?

Illusion 01-16-2018 04:53 PM

Which is why I said she'd be God if she was able to do it.

Kaderin Triste 01-16-2018 04:54 PM

I mean, I don't promise coloring greatness, but I could attempt metal overlays, although a detailed explanation of how overlays are used/applied would probably be helpful.

Gallagher 01-16-2018 04:59 PM

they're put overtop a greyscale item base and set to overlay or a combination of overlay + soft/hard/vivid light layers, with tweaks to the way the pattern flows being done with rotation and perspective warps.

uuhhhhhhh

make it a tiny bit more vibrant than your final goal and it should be fine

large images/repeating patterns are preferred for ease of use

Illusion 01-16-2018 05:01 PM

Or better yet MAKE A TON OF FLANNEL.

Gallagher 01-16-2018 05:07 PM

yeah i'm slowly adding to my collection of patterns for us to use. the random "design this shirt!" nonsense that i do for events sometimes helps. this is what my collection currently looks like

the ideal will always be hand-made patterns that fit every curve and fold of an item perfectly, of course, but easy patterns are nice to make commons more interesting.

Coda 01-16-2018 05:13 PM

We could probably get away with making some patterns that are contoured to the general shape of the base that you could apply on conservatively-shaped commons. You'd need separate pattern variants for male and female tops, and I'm not 100% sure if we could come up with a pattern that would work with different kinds of skirts, but shirts, pants, socks, and gloves at least ought to work.

I'm mulling over what layer styles might work to get a metallic effect, since the highlights are already THERE in the grayscale, they're just not sufficiently specular. Might or might not actually work, but it's plausible.

Gallagher 01-16-2018 05:17 PM

highlights are there yes, but they're typically a lot softer/diffused than you would need for a metal effect. i don't think that would work well in practice, or making metal would be as simple as rearranging and adjusting a layer or two.

Coda 01-16-2018 05:37 PM

Yeah, I know, I said that. The trick to be discovered is if there's a way to tighten those highlights up without distorting the shape too much. My first guess would be to play with a brightness/contrast adjustment layer, but that'd only work if you could specify a suitable curve instead of using a straight adjustment.

Gallagher 01-16-2018 05:38 PM

sounds complicated lol
