Into the Dark [Mew/June]
The city was unusually quiet that night, the usual horn honking and yelling in the streets somehow muted. The moon hung high over the grey buildings below it, casting an eerie light onto them.
Jack Noble was running through the vast labyrinth of alleyways and quiet streets, a determined look on his face. He had a long knife in his right hand and a large handgun strapped in a holster around his waist. He could tell that he was closing in on the atrocities ahead of him, and that was because they were obviously inexperienced. The beast was huge and it left cracks in the concrete, leaving an easy trail for Jack to follow. A grin raised the corners of his mouth up as he heard a low growl in a dark alley in front of him. They were cornered. Slowly Jack set his weapon down on the ground and raised back up, confident that he didn't need it. Instead of charging into the alley like a mad bull like some other Hunters might do, Jack stood there with a menacing smile and spoke to the Controller and its creature. "Alright, face it, you're cornered and you know you can't beat me in a fight. So why don't you just come out now and face your death? I promise to end it quickly. If you choose to attack then I won't be so merciful," he said into the shadows. The Controllers who were inexperienced like this had obviously been changed to the state and knew the fear and pain of being truly human. Like human beings, they tended to fear pain, and so these words could get through to them, making Jack's job that much easier. |
((This post may or may not be the best. Sorry. xD I have a general idea though!))
Linear had followed from the rooftops of the alleyway. Though she wasn't a beginner, it was commonly thought that she was, considering her natural ability to completely sabotage a mission without even meaning to. Aqua eyes darted any which way when she noticed that the Controller was now cornered in. A perfect time to strike! She took out a small leaf from her pocket, putting it to her lips with one hand. The other hand reached for a small hand-gun that lay on her belt, which she held out to shoot. Using her need for music to aim- or so many assumed was the reason she always played that leaf- she made noise from the leaf whistle eminent, shooting at the target quite easily- but forgetting that the monster was still there. The monster blocked it, and was barely injured. Pulling the leaf from her lips, she cursed under her breath. Now she was doomed, since she'd used the noise and gun at the same time to give away that there were hunters there- and that it was safe to climb the rooftops. |
Jack was sure that his words had gotten through to the Controller and that he was surely about to call off his creature. Then he heard the whistle and gunshot.
The beast must have blocked the shot, and it was now leaping out of the shadows, the Controller on its back, straight towards Jack. SHIT, Jack cursed in his head as he ducked out of the way of the huge monster. He was taken by surprise and by the time he remembered to take his gun out and shot three rounds at the pair they were gone. He knew they would not be easily caught now; with adreneline running as well as fear they would be fleeing as fast as they could. He knew he shouldn't have brought her along, he knew it! But he thought he would give her yet another shot, in hopes that she might prove herself at last. Some Hunters were late bloomers after all, and Jack believed that they should be given chances to prove themselves useful to the cause. This was becoming ridiculous though, and he was losing patience. "Lineeaarrrr!!" he growled to the rooftops around him, not even caring to controll his temper. |
Linear had been able to shoot at the monster when it moved, but was too late as it got away anyway. She grumbled- why did that always happen? She was never told a plan, so she always did what seemed like the most logical thing. Now, of only logic had been her specialty.
Hearing Jack's growl, a gulp of air went down Linear's throat. I've done it now alright... She winced slightly, and had jumped from the anxiety peaking in her veins. Trying to fumble with her gun, she got it on her belt but dropped the leaf, causing it to start to float to the ground. She jumped after it, falling as well, landing mostly headfirst from the roof. How was it she always did that, but still was alive? Bowing politely, she frowned and never actually looked at him. "I'm sorry... I thought you said to use the leaf and the gun at the same time this time, but I didn't know of any plans or anything..." She wouldn't cry, of course- but as she stood there, waiting to be scolded, she wondered why she had ever joined the Hunters anyway. She'd never had an interest, for one thing- but as well, it was never her specialty to stop monsters or Controllers! "This really isn't something I have a knack for at all..." |
When Linear fell from the roof Jack winced a little but didn't rush over to see if she was alright. She had always been clumsy and even though she was incredibly tiny she rarely seemed to get hurt badly.
When she came over to him and started mumbling apologies he sighed and ran his hand through his wild black hair. Jack felt that he was a good leader; he could be encouraging and uplifting to those under him but he could also scold them when the time called for it. But this tiny, clumsy girl in front of him always made him think of a small, frail animal and he found it hard to be too harsh to her. He sighed once again before saying, "Linear, I know you try hard and you mean well... but you need to pay attention to what's going on around you! I was about to take care of it, the job was almost complete. I want to believe that you will show amazing skills in hunting soon, but every time I let you out on a job you blow it!" He threw his arms up in exasperation and anger and waited to see if she would say anything in return. |
"I was never meant to be a Hunter," Linear replied honestly in response. It was something she'd been told for a long time and knew well she agreed with. "I've thought many times it'd be better if I quit...But quitting isn't an option...If I don't keep trying..." She looked down, then shook off the thought. "I know I"m horrible at this job. I don't deserve to be let out on a job...But..." She looked at him soon after, still encouraged enough to try. "I can't just give up, even if I know this isn't what I was originally meant to do." He's still out there...It's not like I can protect myself really, but I have to try to stop him...
|
After she replied, Jack raised his hand and put it on her head.
"Look, I don't know why you chose to do this, and I won't bother asking if you don't want to tell me... but for your own safety, I need you to try and get better," he said to her in a sincere voice. He then walked over to where his knife lay, picked it up, and stuck it into the sheath at his side. There wasn't anything else they could do now, so getting back to HQ and figuring out the next step was the only logical option. Jack walked back to Linear and gave her a weary smile. "Now, come on, we should get back home and make sure you don't have a concusion from that fall," he teased her before walking away from the deserted alley. |
As she stood dazed, she felt her lips curl into a pout. "Hey, I've fallen plenty of times without a concussion so this time should be no different!" She did laugh, however, soon afterward. It was a relief, not being forced to explain all that happened with her brother. And even if she had failed again, she would be sure to get better at the job- or at least, she always told herself that. "Hey, you wait up, Jack!" She whined playfully, rushing after him. Though none of it was fun and games in reality- she'd have to accept that.
|
As soon as the chase was over, it seemed as though the city came back to life; sirens blaring, phones ringing, and people chattering everywhere you looked. Even though it was the middle of the night the excitement was pumping more than ever. A city as large as this never slept or slowed down, and Jack didn't mind since he'd been living here for a great deal of his life.
He and Linear walked through the crowds of people who didn't take any notice of them; even if they had their weapons out in the open they probably wouldn't have caused much of a stir. These people were too caught up in themselves and their busy lives to care about what anybody else was doing. They walked for quite a while until they began seeing abandoned warehouses and run-down buildings. Jack knew this city by heart and never got lost, even in the chaos of a hunt. He navigated his way through the monsterous buildings until they encountered what appeared to be just another of the rusted concrete and metal shells. Home sweet home Jack thought with humor before walking through the gaping hole that served as the entrance and continued to the large set of stairs in one corner of the space. There were several floors of the rather large headquaters; first was the lobby, relaxation, and mess hall and kitchen where Hunters spent their free-time and ate their meals, second was the training floor which held weapons and practice equipment, and third was the rooming for most Hunters who called this place home or who were simply staying over for the night. The fourth and final floor was off-limits to most members; it was where higher-ranking Hunters discussed battle movements and plans to destroy the Controllers. It also had rooms for those leaders and was where Jack slept himself. He looked back to Linear who had been following him back here. "Obviously tonight didn't go so well, but tomorrow try to start over with fresh eyes. I'm going to assign you someone to train with and I want you to pay attention and really try to learn how to fight better. I really want you to learn for your own safety and prowess, and I will be stopping by to check in on you. Linear, please don't push this off as a joke or anything, you need to get better," he told her, voicing his concern truthfully, which he usually never did. He normally was joking around and teasing the other Hunters, but matters like these shouldn't be joked about. |
"I never took it as a joke to begin with," She responded rather bluntly. "I was never put into training though and barely know how to fire a gun. I do what seems like the best method, but no one tells me the plans, so I have no other choice but instinct." A frown was eminent on her face as she spoke. She hadn't really thought much when she followed him- she tended to leave thinking for the battles.
"I don't know how much longer I'll stay part of the hunters... I can't hunt. I can barely lift my gun half the time without accidentally pulling the trigger. I'm like a bio-hazard..." She laughed nervously- the laugh was only to try to ease the pang of regret. "I joined the Hunters because I wanted to help stop that stupid Slick Salamander...But I'll only get in the way anyway, won't I? Be honest." |
Jack was too tired to argue with her so he just shook his head.
"Linear, I don't understand your obssession with the Salamander... but yes, if you were to be on a hunt after him, you would get in the way, I won't lie to you. If you're so set on killing him, then use that as motivation in your training," he told her seriously. A yawn escaped him involuntarily and he said, "Now go to bed, you're going to need rest for the training tomorrow." The sentence rang with a note of finality and Jack walked up the stairs, opened the door, and continued through the next two floors to the final one where he went to his room, thinking about the nights' events. "I'm going to have to write up a report about tonight..." he mused with another yawn. |
"You'd want him dead too if he killed your family right in front of you...and tried to kill you." It was a murmur and she wasn't meaning to say it, but this time she'd said it aloud rather than so small under her breath that it was inaudible- realizing it, she stared at the ground even more, her hands curling into fists.
"All the training I've ever done...It was all to stop him so he can't do this anymore... Mark will die. He will stop his murders..." She winced just thinking of it, causing her hands to whiten as the pressure seemed to drain blood from her knuckles. "I'll die if I must to assure it..." She shook her head off quickly, a renewed nervous laugh escaping her. "Forgive my...tantrum, there. Sleep well, sir." She bowed politely, trying to hide her own embarrassment, amongst other things. With that she fled to another room, taking a seat on the bed. She rubbed the handle of her hand-gun with a sigh, before being given permission to play the leaf whistle to calm her enough to rest. |
When Jack woke up the next morning, he felt as though he'd slept for about ten minutes. He hadn't even changed out of his hunting gear he had worn the previous night before collapsing on his bed and passing out into a deep sleep.
He groggily sat up on his bed and shook his head. Even though he had never actually put thought into it, his decision for who would help train Linear was already done. After taking a quick shower and changing into a fitted black shirt and black pants, Jack went down to the housing floor. The floor was seperated into mens and womens rooming, and Jack sneaked into the womens' area. There were quite a few women Hunters who would raise quite the ruckus if they were to see Jack, even though he was their superior and most of the time men came and went. He wasn't a player or womanizer by any means but he had somehow managed to get a reputation of the sort among certain circles of girls. He had to duck and hide several times before he got to the room he had been in search of. The sign on the door read "Lily Shear" and Jack turned the doorknob and walked into the sparsely decorated room. Lily was sitting on her bed in shorts and a tank top reading a thick novel, and she looked up with dry amusement on her face. "Why Jack, how forward of you, sneaking into my room with such a look on your face," she said to him, causing a slight blush to color Jack's cheeks. He shook his head quickly and told her, "Don't be crazy Lily, that's not what I'm here for. I have an assignment for you. You're going to oversee Linear Carina-Lamari's training." |
Linear had woken up easily alongside another Hunter, who happened to be a young girl around her age that had taken her into the Hunting business to begin with. "I really don't think I can keep doing this, Lisa... I know I told you I wanted to, but this is ridiculous! I just hold everyone behind."
"Nonsense, Linear... You are trying..." "Yes, but all I do is cause trouble. You're a great hunter, Lisa. I'm not like you with that..." |
Lily was not the type who refused orders, even if they were coming from Jack. So when he told her she would be training Linear she just nodded and said she would do her best.
She had never talked to the younger girl much, but she had heard from other Hunters that she was a lost cause. There were plenty that didn't seem to accept her because they thought she wasn't good enough, but Lily wouldn't let that taint her own judgement. After all, when Jack had brought her into this world many Hunters didn't share his acceptance. Jack had left immediately after she had told him she would do it, and she changed into some exercise clothes and left her room. Jack probably wasn't going to go tell Linear that she was her trainer so she might as well go down to her room and tell her herself. Lily navigated the halls in the women's quarters until she came to a door with Linear's name on it. She knocked on the door and let herself in without waiting for a response. Linear was sitting in bed and another Hunter, Lily thought Lisa was her name, and Lily nodded to her. "Jack assigned me to be the one who helps you train," she told the girl bluntly. |
Linear nodded slightly, standing from the bed and looking warily at Lisa before looking back to Lily. She didn't know many people by name unless told, but she had recalled hearing Lily's name once during a meeting of some kind, and had seen Lily respond. So, she gave a gentle smile, though clearly worried. "Thank you very much."
|
"Don't thank me just yet," Lily said with a wary underlying tone. She was planning on using the same training regime that was given to her when she first came here, and it wasn't easy.
But even though it was tough, Linear may not have as much trouble with it since she had been taking on hunting jobs for a little while now. "Meet me down in the weapons arsenal in an hour or so. Oh, and don't bother eating anything, you'll just lose it later..." she said with a frown. She nodded again to both of them and left the room. |
Linear nodded eagerly as she watched Lily leave. A frown met her face soon after, however, mostly from the thought of not eating. "You have a strong stomach and you've seen plenty of horrid things after a meal. Knowing you, you might be better actually if you do eat first." Lisa's words relieved her as she had a snack in the room. An hour later, she left to the weapons arsenal, dressed properly for training and excited to work harder.
|
Lily had been waiting in the arsenol for a little while, waiting for Linear to appear. She probably should have started the training with basic stamina exercises such as running and conditioning, but she wanted to see what this girl had in her swing.
When Linear came in through the large door to the room, looking ready and eager, she tossed her one of the large, deadly knifes she had been holding. "First thing, I want to see how good you are with a knife. You and me are going to be sparring," she said to her with a grin. |
Linear managed to catch the knife by the handle, a sigh of relief escaping her. "Did you mean you were going to cut my stomach open when you said I'd lose anything I eat?" It wasn't fully a joke, but it wasn't fully serious- she wanted to break any tension, as well as simply understand why a knife was thrown at her. "Alright. Knife spar sounds fine to me."
|
Lily smiled at Linear without any real amusement and crooked her finger at her to signal her to follow.
Lily walked out of the weapons room and into the wide training area where many Hunters were already practicing their skills in spite of the early hour. The room took up almost the entire floor of the builing, the only closed in areas being the large weapons arsenol and the smaller room used for resting after a hard exercise. The vast training floor held a small indoor track, rock-climbing wall, targets, a small indoor gun range, numerous sparring courts, and even more specialized areas used for training. Most Hunters spent a good deal of their free time here, as the competitive spirit among them never seemed to cease. Lily herself spent a lot of time practicing her knife skills. The majority of the Hunters here preferred to use their various firearms but Lily had always been attracted to the sleek look and feel of a good knife. She walked across the floor to the sparring courts and stopped at the first empty one she came to. She turned to face Linear and stretched her knife-arm out wide from her side. "Alright, this is basically just going to be used for me to determine your fighting skill. I would like to see what you've got in a fight before I send you out running or practicing by yourself," she explained to the younger girl. She slowly brought her knife back in front of her face. "Just come at me with all you've got. Don't hold back, go for the kill," she told her, her face completely serious and concentrated. |
Linear studied the knife in her hands carefully while walking- she'd never used a knife besides to cut ingredients in the past to cook, so she wasn't sure how to use it as a weapon. "I've never used one of these for a fight before...This might be interesting..."
Once it was time for the spar, she gave a crooked smile, holding the knife out the way she would a gun before pulling it back much like a punch. "Got it! I won't hold back!" She likely wouldn't be useful anyway, but she went in to thrust the knife forward anyway, concentrated on solely one area to hit. |
Lily easily dodged Linear's strike with a side-step and twisted her left arm, the one without a knife, down towards Linear's back. The girl's initial thrust wasn't incredible, she didn't seem to have much experience with the weapon, but at least she was coming at Lily with determination. She liked that. Someone who lacked skill but was flowing with determination was much more useful than someone who had skill but lacked the determination to use that skill and gain even more.
|
((Sorry I took so long to reply. I keep getting writer's block so far D; ))
She panted over time, still trying to attack when she could. Her skill level lacked incredibly, especially in terms of the speed of the hits as well as accuracy. However, she kept trying, eventually managing to hit her- though only grazing her arm, if she'd even done much. She only felt some sort of impact. |
When she was hit, Lily just grinned. She was getting into a groove now, dodging the strikes and countering with ease. She had spun around Linear, twisted the knife around in her hand, and was about to hit her in the spot between her shoulders with the flat hilt when she heard her name being called.
Her arm stopped immediately and she turned around to see who was calling her name. Jack was running towards them, a serious look on his face. Lily was pretty sure he wasn't coming to check up on how the lesson was going. He was breathing a bit fast when he reached them and when he was about five yards away he motioned for Lily to come to him. She smiled apologetically at Linear and quickly walked over to Jack. "Lily, I have pretty urgent news. The Salamander's been spotted. A group of Hunters are being gathered and I requested that you be part of that group. You are to dismiss your current duties and report to the fifth floor immediately. When you arrive you will await further orders," he told her quietly, in complete commander mode. She nodded and left as she was told, only stopping to put her knife in its proper place in the weapons room. Jack walked over to Linear after Lily had left. "Sorry about that, official orders, don't worry about it," he said with an apologetic smile. "How did you feel the err... short lesson went?" |
"I don't know. I learned I'm still horribly clumsy with knives... But If I keep working hard, I'm sure I can improve more! I'll keep improving and improving!" Her confidence was overpowered by sheer will to keep working hard. She smiled to him simply when she recognized the apology, however. "No need to apologize, you know. Official orders are...Well, official. And important. I'll train later with Lisa if I can- that should work." She smiled easily to him before heading to put the knife she had used back in the weapons room. She turned to look at him easily, smiling still as she did so. "Please stay safe on your next mission, by the by. I'll be rooting for you." She then left, heading to her room to see Lisa once more.
|
After Linear had left the room Jack sighed. He wasn't necessarily looking forward to that night's chase. The Salamander was never easy to catch. He always managed to slip out of the Hunters' grasp.
It had been a while since he'd hunted beside Lily though, and he was looking forward to that. They had been through a lot together and she had grown to be a great Hunter and comrade. He steadily made his way back to the fifth floor so that he could help in briefing the handful of Hunters who would be out that night. When he got there it looked as though all of the Hunters had assembled, along with the other Commander who was standing across from them with his arms crossed. He was a middle-aged man with a withered face and muscular arms. "Took you long enough Royal," he growled at Jack. Jack rolled his eyes internally and walked over next to him. Quite a few of the other high-ranking Hunters never warmed up to him, which probably had to deal with the fact that Jack was so much younger than them. Their pride couldn't take the fact that Jack was at least ten years younger than every one of them and was a lot better at his job than them as well. He smiled to himself before turning to the Hunters in front of him. "Good morning. You should all know why you've been called on a new hunt. The Salamander has been spotted and the chase has been called immediately. You were all selected to be a part of tonight's mission." He drew his gaze over each of their faces before continuing. "Even though the Controller is notorious and has slipped out of Hunter hands numerous times, you shall treat this as any other hunt. Don't let pressure or fear cloud your mind." "Commander Roland will continue from here and give you all the details on how you are to move tonight," he finished as he nodded to the Commander. As Jack walked away he glanced at Lily, standing perfectly still and her attention completely on the nights' mission. She's always so god damned focused he thought with a smile. He walked out of the meeting room and walked back down to the training floor. He hadn't practiced in a long time and he needed to get a good training exercise in. The nights' hunt would be a tough one. |
"What do you mean you have to go our tonight? Darn... I was hoping we could train..." Linear sighed, looking at the girl who was her 'sister'.
"Sorry, Linear. I have a hunt to do. It's important. Don't worry, you'll be okay." "Anything special?" "Nah..." Of course Lisa would lie about it- she had been ordered to help with the fight against Salamander, and she knew the way Linear reacted when it involved the pest. So, she tended to hide that type of information for safety. "You should go to the training area. I know you always seem to get relaxation from shooting practice." "I suppose so... Yeah, see you." She smiled weakly before going to the shooting range. Even she could tell when Lisa was lying- but she knew Lisa only lied when it was important. Clumsy as she was due to being lost in thought, she tripped near a familiar figure. When she stood, she bowed politely to Jack. "Sorry..." Smiling soon after, she ran ahead once more. |
Linear tripped and apologized in front of him, but before he could say anything back to her she was off again. A small smile lifted his lips up but he quickly went to his own business, needing to focus on the battle formations he would soon be leading.
His exercise wasn't anything special, he just practiced a few hand-to-hand maneuvers, target practice, and some conditioning to get his blood pumping. He didn't need any special sort of training, it would just be counteractive to that night. He should be as calm and relaxed as possible, so a routine workout was best. Several hours later Jack was back in his room, preparing for the night's mission. He had his gear laid out on his wide bed, checking to make sure everything was there. He nodded when felt that he hadn't forgotten anything, and then began putting all of the gear on. His outfit consisted of lightweight black cargo pants, a black fitted shirt, a lightweight black jacket, and black combat boots. He had a holster belt around his hips and in the holder the butt of his large silver pistol stuck out, ready to be drawn. He also had extra magazines stuck in holders around the belt, surely he would need the ammunition. A hidden sheath on his thigh held a long, deadly knife, and another, smaller knife was hidden inside of his boot. He combed his long fingers through his dark, wild hair and then stretched out his eager muscles. He was always excited for a hunt, and one with a Controller who had managed to evade them so many time was all the more exciting. Jack would make sure that tonight the Salamander didn't get away, not while he was in charge. He would finally meet his match, and perish. |
Since Linear had no special mission that night, she had trained less routinely and more rigorously, using it as a way of stress relief as well as just to try to keep pushing forward past her lacking skills- which, admittedly, was mostly all of them. Even Linear knew she made better bait to catch a controller than she did the hunter of them. Yet she still wanted to try- a trait both understandable and deadly in the case of Linear.
When she'd gone back to her room after doing a multitude of warm ups, conditioning, shooting practice and the like, she went back to the room she shared with Lisa. She took the one thing more precious to her than any other item in the world could be off a nearby side table- her ocarina. Lisa was getting ready to go out for a mission, which Linear paid little heed to, as she let the instrument hit her lips. Lisa never minded when Linear played ocarina. In fact, she rather relied on it, since it was the one thing that never failed to relax her enough to not tense up in combat. "Stay safe, Lisa." "Don't worry about me. You rest well." Lisa waved before going to the start of the mission. She sighed softly. "Sorry, Lin... But if you come he'll just try to kill you like when we were younger. I won't let him hurt you again..." |
[Hey so are you gonna introduce your other character soon? :O]
The plans for the night's hunt were simple on the surface, but the maneuvers and strategy were quite complex. Lily had been stuck in the small, cramped briefing room for hours learning how each team was going to move and how she was expected to move when it was her turn. There were going to be three small groups, each having three or four skilled hunters in them. Lily was placed in the team Jack was in charge of, of course he felt more confident with her guarding his back since they knew each other so well. Two more hunters were in her group; Desmond and Lisa. Desmond was very close to Jack and another hunter he trusted enough to always put on his team. Lily liked him enough, but he was always really paranoid and quite, so she could never really get close to him. Lisa, on the other hand, was very kind and seemed open to others. Lily didn't know her all that well, but she knew she was a hunter she could trust to watch her back during a hunt. As she descended the floors of the HQ building, the battle strategy ran through her head again. Her team was the main one, the other two were going to be used more for herding the target around to them. As she closed the door to the ground floor she spotted Desmond, already waiting. His eyes darted up to her and then back away. His fingers were tapping against the machete he had sheathed at his hip, and his left foot was tapping a frantic rhythm against the dirty, cracked tiles on the floor. She walked down to him and stood about five yards away, her arms crossed and her stance wide. "Hi Lily..." he said in a deep mumbled voice. She just nodded to him in a greeting of her own, knowing if she tried to be friendly with him it would just have a negative effect. She knew the kid had been through a lot, though Jack had never told her the complete story. They waited, not speaking, for the remaining two hunters to show up. |
((Yeah, when they get to the actual hunt. Though I can do a very mild introduction of him I suppose...In a forest?))
Lisa fled from the room and headed down to the other two, hopping off the last few steps of a flight of stairs in order to get there just a tiny bit faster. A sigh escaped her when she did reach Desmond and Lily. "Just waiting for Jack now, right?" A curious glance turned her face to Lily, whom she thought to be a bit easier to talk to then Desmond, though she gave that male a glance as well afterward. She stretched her arms upward toward the sky, preparing herself by reaching behind her slightly to touch the sheath of a long sword, her other hand touching the small handgun at her hip, encased on a holster she always wore fore simplicity. Her wheat hair was slightly illuminated thanks to the moonlight. It was one of the many things that kept most people from knowing the one truth about Lisa that tended to make people question her reason for becoming a hunter- the man they were going to hunt that night, Mark. After all, that man was in the woods in wait for a game. Though it wasn't new, Mark Lamari had a tendency to know when he'd been discovered by the hunters- and instead of fighting back, most of the time the young man used his beasts that he controlled to just get them off his trail. His black hair was hard to find in the dim light of the forest he hid in at that point. The only really visible creature was a large creature, black as the night but with red eyes almost illuminated naturally. "I wonder...Will I get to have a little fun with Linny during today's games? Or will sis keep me from her like usual?" A smirk was on his face, but only the beast knew of it. However, his sister did know that she was being spoken of, as she sneezed. "That jerk...He better not be planning on fooling around with us again..." Lisa's voice was only a murmur. She wouldn't let him get to Linear or any of the other hunters if she could stop it. |
When the other Hunter arrived Lily turned to face her, feeling the tension ease slightly with another presence in the room.
"Looks that way..." she murmured. She flexed out her fingers at her sides, the leather of her gloves squeaking slightly at the movement. The three of them waited in silence for a few more minutes until the leader of their group finally descended the stairs. "Sorry for making all of you wait, had to go over some things with the other team leaders real quick," Jack announced as he stepped down from the last step. Lily could practically see his mind going from his usual light-hearted manner to the serious excitement he gained right before a hunt. A slight smile formed on his lips as he continued, "You all remember the plan, correct? The target is located on the southern outskirts of the city, finding refuge among the forest there. We head straight south from here, right into the lion's den... or the salamander's as it were," he coughed out a quick laugh at that, "We only need to focus on finding him and taking him out, focus on the battle and use common sense. This guy is deadly, and I don't want any of you being stupid and getting yourselves killed." He said the final line with a dark seriousness, any trace of humor washed out of his voice. Out of the corner of her eye, Lily saw Desmond nod in understanding, his eyes locked on Jack. She followed suit and then took a deep breath. The hunt would finally start. --- The three of them seemed to understand the job ahead, so without another word Jack marched forward to the gaping hole that led outside. It completely dark, only small pinpricks of light peeking out from the dense clouds that covered the sky. Just as planned Jack thought to himself, knowing that the mission had been scheduled for a night of the new moon and with heavy clouds in the forecast. The darkness would help them to hunt down the Salamander, giving them some sort of cover to move under. This would make it a bit harder to find their target as well, but it was better than being fully exposed by bright moonlight. Jack brought his arm up and glanced down at the watch that covered his wrist. Pressing a small button on the side, he raised the device up to his lips and spoke into it, "Team A, now moving southbound. Teams B and C, start your maneuvers." The two other teams were an important part to this hunt, being the ones who would both distract and herd the Controller straight to Jack's group and allow them to strike and hopefully bring an end to him at last. |
"Get her," The man commanded in a cold manner, glaring at what to most seemed like just a shadow, nothing more. "Little Lisa will be a good enough pawn this time around for our game." A nod escaped that of the creature it spoke to, as it soon fled.
Though Lisa had tried to keep a close eye on the area, doing as told by Jack from the beginning, it was unfortunate to her taht she was the most likely to target. She was grabbed from behind, causing a quick screech of natural surprise, however she soon negotiated it by trying to fight the beast. However, the way she was pinned down with her arms at her sides was too strong- the hand of the beast had too much strength compared to her. "Everyone, on guard! Don't follow!" She knew her brother all too well. "I can at least try to prevent them from falling into stupid's trap..." |
