It was storming again on the late August night, it always was now a days. Letting out a sigh she moved away from the the shoji door sighing she had no idea behind what was going on, but her luck seemed to be going from bad to worse since she and her sister moved to this house.

"Why are we cursed?" she asked wondering if she was heard by her sister "We should have stayed in our own flat... instead of coming here" she say jumping as another clap of thunder happened

"..." the tall figure seemed to blend in with the scenery due to the coloration of his tattered clothing, but could easily be spotted from his movements. He walked forward solemnly as he had done so for the past few days, and was severely exhausted to the point his legs felt like folding beneath him. As he raised his bandage-covered hands to grab the hood of his jacket to pull it into a better position, he stopped. There was a house that stood some distance to his right side and he felt oddly drawn to it. He moved closer...ever closer...and finally propped himself against the wall and started clawing at the exterior much like a cat does on a scratching post to sharpen its claws.

Stopped what she was doing and looked around a little somewhat like a meerkat would do hearing the scratching "Sis?" she said quietly, but she heard the scratching stop but only for a second before it started again. Standing slowly she moved to the closest wall where there was a broom, taking it she moved to the door cautiously it wasn't one of her better idea's but then again moving here was even worse.

Getting to the Shoji door she slid it open only realizing that it could be a murderer, out here no one could hear you scream. Steadily though she moved out of the house as another bolt of lightning came crashing down, again it made her jump, she hated stormy weather, but she continued she found herself thinking it might not be a killer but perhaps someone in need, what ever the case was she finally got around to where the boy was.

Her eyes went wide he looked weak, helpless and hurt, throwing the broom to the side she dashed over to him caring nothing of the rain falling on her "Lets get you inside" she say her voice warm as she knelt next to him, moving one of his arm over her shoulder she helped him to his feet it was only then he took the fact he was so much bigger than her. Slowly she moved them both into the house placing the person in front of the fire before going to get some towels quickly.

If he looked around the house he would see plain white shoji walls, a small bamboo table with, four white silk cushions. On the table would be a teapot, with two cups, some food and two plates, though no sooner than she had left than she was back again with 3 towels and some clothing "I think it'll fit" she says with a smile taking down his hood and began to try his hair

He felt awkward being placed in such a situation since he was not accustomed to anyone trying to give him 'good' hospitality. His eyes widened as though someone had given him a hard slap to the face and he suddenly became fully aware of what was going on. He snapped forward and grabbed her wrists, then pulled her closer to himself. "You can't keep me here...things will happen..." his voice was faint and cracked from a combination of his exhaustion and fear.

Then he released her, relaxing into the previous position he was in as though nothing had happened. Though soon after, he began to gnaw on his fingers, opening the wounds beneath the bandage and causing the bandages to turn into a light pink into a dark red. It wasn't the first time he had done that to himself, and it was fine with him. So long as he had some sort of material to cover up the wounds, he assumed it would be fine.

Seeing the boy stap forward the way he did her eyes went wide and she jamp a little, she wasn't expecting it that was for sure. A light blush came to her cheeks as she felt his wet clothed form against hers, it wasn't something she was acustomed to, though on hearing his words and how he said it the blush faded as quickly as it came. She felt pity for him and it was reflected in her amber eyes "I am not keeping you here... you can leave when you wish but i would suggest staying for a while to get warm, some rest and something to eat" she say hearing another thunder clap she jamp "and till the storm passes" she say with a nervous smile

Being released she went back to drying his hair until he saw him knawing on his fingers, quichly she threw the towel down and brought his hand away from his mouth "That's silly to do that" she say quietly as she began to unwrap his hands from the dirty bandages "You can cause alot of harm to yourself and even infections if you do that" she continued though her eyes went wide seeing the damage that had been done "How long have you been doing that?" she said her voice filled with concern

Without another word she stood up and went through a nearby door only to return a few moments later with a bowl of warm water and a first aid kit. Kneeling down beside him once more, she placed down the bowl which had a sponge and the first aid kit next to her "My name is Toshi" she say warmly, as she dabbed the sponge into the water then began to wash his hands "I'm sorry if this will hurt" she say her eyes concentrating on the task she was doing, although she found it strange that someone passed this way, there was no paths and it was one hundred miles from the nearest town, though she placed that thought out of her head for the mean time.

Having washed away the blood and what ever dirt was on there, she seen the extent of the damage, she couldn't help wonder why someone would do this to themselved. Placing the sponge into the bole of now blood colored water she opened the first aid kit and brought out some bandages, a bottle of iodine and some anti-septic cream.

Taking the the lid off the cream she placed her hand in it to take some and began rubbing it onto his hand a warm smile on her face like it usually was "This will help keep it clean and kill any bacteria in the wound" she say, she wanted to let him know what she was doing and why, as she knew the last thing she would want if she was in his shoes as some strange girl poking and proding her without explination. After a few moments she placed the lid back onto the cream and went for the iodine, unscrewing the top she would bring it out to show a dropped "This will likely hurt, but it is to help the wound close quicker, it also act like an anti-septic too" she say dropping a drop or two where ever she seen an open wound, though she kept a tight grip incase he tried to pull his hand away from her.

After this was done she placed the dropped back into the bottle and screwed the top back on again, before picking up the clean dressing "You should really use clean dressing every day or so if you don't then you get infections" she say with a solum voice, she was trully worried about him and how he came to be in such a situation, though she smiled after she had finished "All done" she placed the items back into the first aid box and pointed to the table "Feel free to have something to eat and drink if it's not something you like, let me know and I'll make something you will like" with that she picked up the bowl and first aid kit and went through the door she had before to get them, leaving him be while she put them away

At first he wanted to scream after his fingers were left bare for a while because he feared getting an infection from the air particles. But was relieved with the ointment, despite how it stung him. So he watched quietly as she finished up and left the room, leaving him by himself with something that piqued his curiosity.

He staggered over to the table and sat down, with his knees drawn to his chest. He saw the food, and of course it made him hungrier than he was before just by being in its presence. Though he had been told never to touch such food since he was put into the position of a person that didn't deserve such luxuries. Instead, he would look for the scraps or possibly eat something else that was digestible, but not really considered food.

His eyes explored the surroundings, then looked at the doors. He knew such doors could be made from paper, which worked well as a filler. He didn't bother to get up and instead walked on all fours before reaching the door, and then used his long fingernails to claw out a piece of the door to eat.

Walked back in a few moments later her eyes went to the table, then to the fire. they then darted around in fear incase he got lost or was hurt, seeing him by the door with a panel of the rice paper in his mouth she ran over to him "Don't eat that, it's not healthy for you" she say kneeling next to him taking what was left from him

Standing she held out her hand "Please, come and eat something warm with me" she say taking his hand and raising him up she moved to the table with him, allowing him to sit first she moved to the oppisite side. Kneeling she took a plate and placed some rice, some chicken and some stemed vegtables

Placing the plate in front of him she smiled warmly "what is your name?" she ask as she made up a plate for herself, she had made the food origenally for herself and her sister but she knew her sister wouldn't mind after all her sister never ate with her anyway

"I can't! I'll be punished if I eat that..." he stared at the plate, and back up at Toshi, and back to the plate again. Obviously he looked like he wanted to try it, eying the food with interest, though he was ready to go back to eating the rice paper again. He pursed his lips and fiddled his fingers together as his eyes now remained glued on the temptation in front of him, "My name is Yuu.."

Toshi shook her head at what had been said to her, he seen how the food tempted him "You will not be punished for eating this... it's healthier than eatting the door" a light cuckle coming to her lips as she moved her had up to cover her mouth

On hearing his name she stopped laughing, her hand moving down to light land on the table; closing her eyes she lowered her head "a pleasure to meet you Yuu" she say her head raising once more "please enjoy the food" she smiled allowing him to take the fist bite as was cusomery

Yuu was still a little stunned from such polite gestures towards him. Nonetheless, he started to cave in and figured that he could get away with it at least for the night, as Toshi probably would have wanted. He lowered his head as well, "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Toshi."

He raised his head again, and picked up one of the utensils, which was rare for him to do since he usually used a single piece of broken wood for shoveling food into his mouth or used his own fingers. He had some trouble adjusting to holding the tool but he finally managed to get the food into his mouth. His face flushed from the foreign flavors, "This is..delicious..thank you."

Toshi looked to him as he tried to get use to the chopsticks " I could get you a fork or you could use your fingers if that is easier for you" she say gently she hadn't realised that he wasn't from this place though smiled as he got the hang of them.

Her smile went bright hearing the compliment "your welcome!" she exclaimed extatically almost falling backwards. though as quickly as her excitement came it left, her eyes turning to one of the rooms up stairs "forgive me I'm excitable" she say lowering her head as an apology, her voice was quiet with a hint of fear in it

Soon she looked up and smiled weakly "Yuu... why did you eat part of the door?" she would ask wanting to know more about the stranger she was showing hospitality to, but more to the fact she wanted to know how he got the way he did and who done it

"Because I'm not allowed to eat the same food as everyone else. I eat things that seem edible but I know that other people wouldn't want to eat," he grabbed the plate and raised it to his mouth, now going back to his old habits and used the two chopsticks as a single piece to shovel the food into his mouth. He stopped momentarily and lowered the plate, "The door tasted better than a lot of the stuff that I'm used to, thank you."

He rested the plate on the table, with food still on it. Though he looked up at Toshi with a raised brow, "I have passed by many houses that were grouped together, but yours seems so far out of the way. Are you trying to hide or run from someone too?"

Toshi listened to what Yuu had to say, he had been treated terribly as she could tell that by how he was when she found him and how he behaved "I am sorry for how you have been treated Yuu, You will be safe here and won;t have to eat a door again" she say with a warm tone


Though on hearing his question to her she had to think a moment on how to answer it "This house is one hundred miles away from the nearest town..." she'd begin, her eyes going to the same door once more for a second before shaking her head "No, we are neither running nor hiding from anyone... this land has been my familys for so long" her voice was somber in tone as she looked down "But something happened a very long time ago, something very very bad, since that day this place has been avoided like it had never existed" she would say her voice shaking slightly as if she knew something but didn't want to say

Raising her head she looked to him once more "How did you get in such a bad way" she pointed to his hands, she was trully curious on why someone would want to harm another living being in such a manner

Yuu perked up after hearing the short bit about the bad incident that happened in the area. Originally he thought that the bad things were following him, but it made him more uneasy to know that he was the one who went to the bad thing. So running away apparently didn't do him any good. It was simple: he just had bad luck.

He shook his head and looked around, trying to see if there was any way for something or someone to come by and attack them, but Toshi seemed relatively comfortable at the moment and she was more familiar with the place, so he relaxed a little. He sighed and poked around at the food before looking back at Toshi, "My family and the others hurt me every day.. But something horrible happened, so I ran away. It's following me...I can feel it.."

Toshi leaned back she hadn't even looked at the food since she placed it on the plate her eyes went to the celing "Two hundred and ninty three years ago, there was a family here..." she began her voice bacame distant "There was a mother, a father, a son and a daughter" she continued "They lived in harmony with each other and nature, they cared not for the aruguments from the heaven above, hell below or the arguments of mortals... but they would never turn someone away in need" she sighed a little closing her eyes "But something wasn't right beneath the surface of this happy family. The son loved his sister more than life itself and was willing to do anything to possess her whatever the cause" her voice was solum as she continued talking about it "he found a book in the libary in a section that was lost, and found a spell to give him what he disired" she continued "He didn't do the spell right though, it killed him, the mother and the father... the daughter's remains have never been found" she say gently looking down to him once more "people don't come here because of the history it holds believing that they will come in contact with one of the family members" she say quietly, she just wanted him to know the reason behind the house being so distant to everything else

Blinked hearing that his own family done this to him "That is horrible!" she exclaimed her voice raising, though her eyes went to the room once more "forgiveness" she would say lowering her head and smiling a little uneasy "How can someone's won family do that to a child?" she ask her voice sounded as if it felt his pain "Others? What others? she would ask, watching as he poked at what remained on his plate "Would you like some more?" she asked reaching for the spoon that was in the rice

His heart skipped from the story. The last thing he wanted to see was some random malicious ghost trying to attack him, or other people. Toshi would have been ok, since it seemed like her family had lived this long without encountering any problems, but he started to worry for himself. He was a stranger who was passing through someone else's property, and whatever remained might not be as friendly as Toshi, "Then it's probably a good idea that I don't stay here for very long..."

But he licked his lips at the offer for more food and eyed the rice hungrily. He pushed the plate forward and nodded. Then he remembered that she had asked him a question, "The others? The other people I was living with. My tribe."

Smiled looking at him, taking the plate she placed some more of the food on it "Do they eat doors too?" she asked him kind of confused, she had no idea if they all where treated this way or just him. Placing the plate down once more she tilted her head hearing what he said she shook her head "it's silly storys... I have been here..." she stopped mid sentance, her finger going to her bottom lip 'how long have i been here' she asked herself, she trully couldn't remember being anywhere else, shaking her head she came out of her day dream "You'll be safe in any case... Remember... the family never turned away anyone in need" she smile, he would have known she was talking about him on this occassion

"Of course there are others who do things like myself, because we've been marked. Only the unmarked people get the privilege of living well," he grabbed the plate of food and started eating again, in large mouthfuls. Thunder clapped again and Yuu froze, and his eyes went wide, "Wait..then what happens if someone else in need comes here, but that someone else is someone that wants to do bad things to me?" He turned around to look at the door, and then back again.

Toshi tilted her head and listened to what was said to her "Marked?" she would seem suprised "why would you mark your own kind? Is the rest of your family marked?" her voice sounding confused as he said they also picked on him, it just seemed unhumane what was done to him and others like him

She smiled seeing him eatting the food, she didn't care how he was eatting it, she was just happy was eatting. on hearing the thunder clap she jamp again, it was easy to see she didnt like the weather when it was like this, but she pushed it back to the back of her mind as he asked her a question "They would be welcomed as you where, but if they tried to cause trouble they would be asked to leave... I don't want the harmony of this household disturbed" she said sweetly

Yuu nodded, but he was starting to get stuffed and slowed down, then finally set his chopsticks and plate down. Even if he was one of the lower ladder of the social system in his tribe, he was usually surrounded by people someplace. He couldn't sense many people present within the household, but it could have been just the weather throwing him off, "And where's your family? There's only one other person here?"

Smiled gently seeing him slowly filled, she still hadn't touched her first plate, leaninf forward she placed some tea into both their cups. she placed the teapot down before picking up his cup and offering it to him "My parents are dead... it's only myself and my sibling here" she say quietly looking up to the door she had before "My sister has a vile temper on her" she said in almost a whisper of a voice as if she didn't want to be heard.

bringing up the left sleeve of her kimono two large deep purple bruises could be seen, though quickly she brought the sleeve down again "One bruise was because I made dinner late, and the other because I was too loud" she say gently. closing her eyes she bit her bottom lip as she tried to remember her family as a whole but was failing

Yuu stared at the arm with the bruises. He had gotten the assumption that most normal modern-day families would be more loving towards their relatives from all the rumors he heard. He was a bit disappointed to learn that it was not much different from the way of his tribe, but he could definitely empathize with what Toshi might have been going through. Though that could have been the reason he felt drawn to the place.

"It is my tribe's law for us, for those who are marked, not to raise their fists against the unmarked of the tribe. But we are of different tribes, so I think it would be alright for me to help you fight back, if you need it," he of course remembered right after he finished his sentence about the fact that she did mention something about retaining the harmony of the household. He didn't know if Toshi considered it to be harmonious when her sibling beat her up as punishment.

Smiled gently, though shook her head when he mentioned helping her fight back "I am a passifist... harming another living being is not harmonious" she say contently "Tradition states that the eldest is in charge of the family and though it seems strange I bare no ill will towards my sister... in a way I guess I am her property and if she told me to kill myself I would have to without hesitation" she say, though on hearing a noise up stairs, she stood and quickly moved to Yuu's side "Quickly!" her voice was quiet but had some urgency to it

Taking his hand she helped him to his feet and rushed him to the kitchen, she looked scares as she brought her finger to her lips "Shhh... No mater what don't make a noise" she say moving away from the kitchen just to see her sister come downstairs, she hurried to where Yuu had been sitting and knelt down so it looked as if she had eatten "Ai Sempai" her voice gentle as she bowed low "I wasn't expecting you to be down this evening" her voice was humble and she kept in the bowing position till her sister bowed back

Ai sat and looked at the table as toshi sat up "You must have been hungry" she said stearnly, toshi looked down and nodded "Yes, to finish all the chores I skipped lunch" Toshi replied taking a shallow breath it was shown she was nervous around the woman. Ai's eyes narrowed "Permission must be requested before eatting!" she growled, standing she grabbed Toshi by her hair and dragged her out the house.

Half an hour later Toshi came back into the house, she had blood trickling out of the right hand side of her mouth, A deep bruise easily seen on the left hand side of her face, her kimono was now muddy and torn, her hand came to her chest as she breathed deeply "Yuu, it's safe to come out" she say falling to her knees coughing

Yuu peeked out of his hiding spot, only to see Toshi badly hurt and dirty. He could have done something for Toshi during the time she was getting abused, but at least respected her wishes for that one moment. He just had to tolerate it for that one time. However, now that the threat was gone, he moved out and towards Toshi to lick her face and clothes to clean up the mess.

Toshi smiled softly feeling his warmth on her cheek, though she coughed again moving back "Dirt is bad for your health Yuu" she said contently, wrapping her kimono sleeve around her hand wiping her cheek, though she was in more pain than she was showing though ignored it.

Standing she moved back to the table "Ai will not be home until morning" she say moving to the table to collect the plates "The harmoney of the hopme is the main thing" she say hoping he would understand, she had no idea how he thought about the going's on though she was sure he would voice them

"Of course it is.." he nodded and confirmed that he was paying attention, maybe a little too much attention. He grabbed the plates that Toshi had and walked straight into the kitchen, then placed them down, "Don't you think it's a little late? Maybe you need some rest. It will be good for recovery."

Smiled as she was helped with the dishes and moved to the kitchen behind him, placing all the food that hadn't been eaten onto one plate, she moved out of the kitchen towards the front door to dispose of the left overs. As normal she would leave the meat above the ground so that wild dogs or other meat eatting animals could gain nutrients from it, she moved away from the meat and placed the vegtables in the long grass for the mice or any othe rodants that needed something to eat, though she dug a hole near a tree and placed the rice within it "I have taken from the earth, and am returning that which I am not able to use" it was almost like a prayer, she was careful not to let anything go to waste. She was unsure if Yuu had followed her

Returning to the house just as thunderclapped again "Gah!" she jamp into the air, looking outside she looked to the sky "Why? Why would you do that?" pouting for a second she giggled, it was almost as if she had, had a trick played on her; soon though she moved back into the kitchen to deal with the dishes.

As she began to wash the dishes she nodded to Yuu "It's eight o'clock... would you like a bath?" she asked continuing her task, her eyes winced a little as she felt a sharp pain go through one of her ribs but she smiled the whole time 'are we the same' she found herself thinking to herself

"Bath?!" Yuu blurted as he inched away. Baths were only something he got weekly, but his tribe made it a point to make it a very unpleasant experience for him, beyond what he could tolerate. He vigorously shook his head from side to side in disapproval of the idea, "No bath!"

Though, he was oblivious that Toshi was in even more pain than she was letting on. If he had gotten more of a hint on it, he probably would have focussed his attention on that rather than the bath that Toshi had mentioned.

Toshi finished up the dishes and started to put them away, she closed her eyes seeing how he acted at the mention of a bath "I can not nor will I force you" she say gently taking his hand and walked out of the kitchen towards another door. going fown a short corridor she stopped in front of two other doors. She shpuld have went to get some pain killers but for the moment that wasn't important so placed the pain to the back of her mind.

Opening the door on the left, he would see a large pool of water with steam rising from it, it had a large bamboo divider almost as if it had been cut in half "This is the male's side of the bathing chamber incase you change your mind" she say gently, moving to the edge she placed in her hand delicatly "Water is a great force, I can tell you have been harmed by it, but it is also clensing... healing" she say gently bringing up her hand to flick a little at him playfully in the hops he would see she was not like those he was use to

Yuu flinched and jumped back instinctively, expecting that the water would be scalding hot or something else was placed in it. He was relieved to know that the water was neither, so far. "That wasn't so bad.." his voice was shaky, and he moved back to his previous spot before he leapt back, "Then maybe it's okay for me to take a bath.."

Stopped flicking the water as she seen him jumping abck, instinctivly she bowed low to him "Please forgive me... it wasn't my intention to scare you" her eyes clenched in pain as she had moved to fast, to tell the truth because of him she had forgotten her own pain

Hearing his voice she sat up, he didn't sound angry and that relieved her; her right arm went around her waist as she did so though "The water here is heated naturally Yuu" she say moving her hand into the water to splash him again "It's warm enough to soothe and clense, but not scold" she giggled trying to put the pain to the back of her mind, but this time it was more difficult as she felt her ribs throbbing

"I get it," he thought that she was urging him to go into the water after the second splash, and soon after he had jumped into the water without taking his clothes off. He smiled, "You're right, this is soothing." Though he cocked his head and stared at her with her arm around her waist, "Is your stomach upset?"

Brought her hand up to protect herself from the water, as she heard the splash "Yuu.." she looked down and blushed lightly "Umm..." sahe went brighter "When bathing you usually get undressed first" she say her voice shaking a little as she spoke "I'm glad you like it though" she say standing and heading to the door slowly so he could have privacy

Hearing his question she stopped and looked at him for a moment, and nodded a little "Uhh.... Yes" she said, she wasn;t a very convincing liar, "I'll be at the other side of the divider, we'll still be able to talk" she say quickly hurrying out of the bathing chamber.

She moved to the second door, the inside of it looked much like the otherside. Closing the door behind her she slowly removed the layers on her kimono folding them and placing them to one side. she then looked over her form and seen bruise's appear "I do not blame you Ai" she whispered to herself as she slowly moved to the water and slid in a sigh of relief coming from her lips

Yuu could hear the fabric rustling and then the sound of the water's silence being disturbed on the other side of the wall. His tribe normally wore some sort of special garment still when bathing, but for people like him he was made to wear his regular clothes while bathing. So it just washed his clothes and himself at the same time. Though, he stripped his clothes off and tossed them off to the side on dry ground. He kept the bandages on though, which covered most of his body anyways, save for his head and neck as well as parts of his arms and lower regions. Though those were heavily scarred with fresh and old wounds.

It was true, the waters did seem to work more on him. In fact, he started to play around in the water like a bird taking a bath. Then he moved next to the wall, "Toshi is still there?"

Toshi listened to the splashing on the otherside of the divider and giggled lightly, hearing him enjoy himself though as she laughed she coughed her hand moving up as was polite but blood appeared on her hand, moving silently to nthe ege of the pool she cleaned her hand and mouth by using the water moving out of the bathing chambers.

Hearing Yuu her attentions shifted and she moved to the divider her hand touching it lightly "Yes, I'm here... How are you enjoying a relaxing bath?" she ask, she was wondering how he found this new experiance

"This is fantastic! I didn't think I could experience a bath like this," he moved his hand to his arm and pressed down on it. There was a fresh wound on there with dried blood, it stung a little, but at the same time felt slightly pleasant with the water passing over it. He smiled, "Do you do this every week?"

Toshi clapped her hands showing she was happy "I'm glad you enjoy it" she say exitidly "Baths are suppose to sooth aching limbs and clean wounds" she say gently calming down "weekly?" she seemed confused at what had been asked and shook her head "Daily" she say with a smile "I baith three times daily though when I can get the chance, but always at least twice" she finished a blush coming to her cheeks as she imagined how his form looked

It was the first time he had heard about anyone taking baths at least twice a day, though it wasn't his first time hearing that someone was taking their baths daily. He scratched his head and shook his head, not understanding why a person would have to take a bath several times a day, "That confuses me.. Why do you do it so many times?"

Toshi listened to his question, as she came out of his day dream and thought about his question "I bathe in the morning to help wake me up... I do all the chores of the household as Ai sempai states and take a bath in the evening to help soothe my form from the days work" she say contently sliping under the water for a second, she failed to state that occasionally that Eye hurt her nor no reason and the bath helped clense the wounds

"Are you the one doing all the chores?" Yuu was curious to know if this Ai person ever lifted a finger to do any of the duties. He wasn't too fond of Ai at all. She was cruel and brutal, similar to some people he knew. Then the hair on the back of his neck stood up. He had been so relaxed in the household that he realized he completely forgot about why he was so far away from his tribe's land. He stood up suddenly and moved quickly out of the water, shaking his head about like a dog drying himself and then proceeded to put on the drenched clothing.
