So I must confess...

I hate the thought of dieting but I am. I am "comfortable" with the way I look but I just want to be flatter. This kinda came about when I saw a pic of myself back in Oct. So I wanted to make a change. So after its going good, I just started last week.

My starting weight was 232lb. So far I'm down to 226lbs.

I'm limiting my caffeine/ soda intake and instead drinking about a bottle of water a day.
I'm eating a breakfast more..well trying to, smaller healthier lunch, and healthier dinners.

I don't want to be super small. but if I can get down to 150lbs I'd be so happy.

So what do you think of diets, weight, or are you dieting right now?

Logan 01-18-2011 09:29 PM

I lost 130lbs in total and im DIVO. <3

Pocket 01-18-2011 09:31 PM

What are some tips that I can try?

Logan 01-18-2011 09:41 PM

Get on diet. XD
Cut out junk foods, beverage/sodas, etc.
Diet Pills.
Workout daily.
Bed early.

Pocket 01-18-2011 09:42 PM

Would activity at work count? lol. I've been working my butt off.

Logan 01-18-2011 09:46 PM

What you do at work? It depends.

Pocket 01-18-2011 09:53 PM

Retail...lol.

Logan 01-18-2011 09:57 PM

Nope. >->

Pocket 01-18-2011 09:59 PM

Dang...lol.

I walk to work..its about 5 minutes from where I live.

Addy 01-18-2011 10:03 PM

You'd think retail work would help with that more but no. D: I was a retail worker for a long time and I lost no weight at all, despite coming home exhausted every day. 3:

There are simple exercises I can show you if you're interested in those. :3 I've been kinda doing some off and on.

Logan 01-18-2011 10:06 PM

5 mins doesnt help either. XD

tenshi raven 01-18-2011 10:19 PM

I would NOT recommend diet pills unless you are consulting with a DOCTOR you can really mess yourself up doing that. Proper nutrition, eating 4 or 5 small meals a day upping your amount of exercise and actually 5 mins can help if it is more than what you have done before. You also want to make sure you are consuming enough calories which is a mistake a lot of people make. The key thing is finding what works with your body not everyone is going to lose weight by diet alone some will so really find what works with you and don't concentrate on a certain weight because you may find that you aren't meant to be 150 pounds.
also when I worked retail I did lose weight because I moved around my section it depends on how active you are

Echo-chan713 01-18-2011 10:19 PM

For me it was portion control, I drink soda (but I go for a small size cup)I usually drank those powdered Crystal Light drinks; and I used to be in High School so I had to walk to get to my classes everyday. I love DDR so that helped my metabolism to go up; I lost 60 pounds in the school year.

Then when I graduated I didn't know how to drive so I walked basically everywhere whether it's convient of a distance from point A to Point B. I cooked alot so I rarely went out to eat; if I went out to eat someone would pick up my tab.

Lore 01-19-2011 01:36 AM

Caffeine increases your metabolism which could enhance your efforts, but the most important thing is to stick to whatever you do. If you're gonna exercise, don't overdo it; start small and gradually increase the time and reps. Some people mistake extreme pain for burning more fat, but that just means you're possibly injuring something. Don't get me wrong, a little pain is okay... but if you're straining to the point of struggling for breath, stop.

Something you can do to gradually work exercise into your life is to extend that walk home. Instead of immediately returning home after work, take an extended walk for say... 10 minutes. I know you're tired then, but I doubt you'd want to do that before work. That's just an easy first step. Good luck to you!

Azrael 01-19-2011 01:42 AM

>_> I dunno, I've lost some weight - I haven't any idea how much but I know I've lost weight- since I've started working. Granted not a lot, but being up and around instead of laying around /does/ help.

Chi 01-19-2011 02:15 AM

You can also try at home doing some simple exercises like sit ups, push ups, etc.
I went to a gym every Thursday with my friends last year, it was a good ten minute walk, we'd work out doing what I listed, lifting weights, pull ups and using other equipment they had.
Doing that and having a salad with every meal and lemonade, juice, or water, I lost ten pounds in... two months? Either two months or two and half.
But that's what... 8-10 days of working out and having salad with my meals and not soda worked for me.

Like Tenshi said though, that doesn't work for everyone, you need to find what works for you but you seem to be doing good so far.

Glass Heart 01-19-2011 05:40 AM

I was told to do a 20 minute workout, don't over do it but if you work up a sweat it's a good thing, work at a pace that won't wear you out before the time is up.. and do it 2 to 3 times a week, leaving days to rest between them
it worked for me, as long as I kept with it, used an exercise bike or did as many sit ups as I could do... which was 20 then rest a bit then do 20 again, this was something I had to do every day... and give some rest because well if you do something like that when it isn't normal for you, it is possible to get cramps
the first thing I talked about though the bike 20 minutes at an easy to mid pace worked best for me

Delicious Nightmare 01-19-2011 09:53 PM

I wish you luck! You can do it!
I am also on my way to loosing weight! I'll keep you updated on mine.
I will be getting help from pills though.. Because I watch what i eat. I don't eat much in one sitting and i do a lot of work and such even have a 15 min work out and yet i still don't drop the weight. I got it because of the kids and keeping it because of stress.. So i hope the pills will help me..

Pocket 01-19-2011 10:03 PM

princeofrose 01-20-2011 02:26 AM

I said I was going to go on a diet once...and on that very day I said I was going to go on a diet I ate pizza, ice cream, chocolate, drank soda and coffee all in the same day.
Yeah..the word diet doesn't work for me XD LOL But its okay I guess, I need to work on getting muscle tone more than getting skinnier. I'm all flab and it makes me sad ;__;

Panda 01-20-2011 12:02 PM

I walk like 1 hour a day and I'm not even loosing much. You should get your cadio going and eat less but eat frequently. Drink a lot of water, not just a bottle. Dancing will help tone your stomach, move your hip when you dance. Never or ever starve yourself! You can eat breakfast and lunch and some little snack in between and you can feel free to skip dinner, it will make a big different.

Echo-chan713 01-22-2011 09:30 PM

All I can say is listen or know your body, if you're in pain/vomit/faint during or after excerising just stop the excerise for the day or two for your body to rebuild itself and when you do some weight lifting the next day take a break from the weights for a day cause of sore muscles and you create muscles when your relaxing anyway. Then the next day, if you feel any better do some excerises.

Oh and don't go for a routine, keep the body guessing; that's usually gives you better results.

Taiania 01-27-2011 06:20 AM

I think it's fine if done sensibly instead of crashing. I'm trying to diet and have been for about a year now. I've lost a stone but have gained muscle so I've lost more than it sounds. It's still as hard as hell.

Beast 01-28-2011 07:31 PM

I lost about 25 pounds in roughly a month and a half? Two months? By cutting out soda, or at the very least limiting it to one can a day with a meal or something. Cut out snacking on junk food during the day, and exercise.

Dieting is okay, if you can stick with it, but my willpower is crap, so what I did was instead of denying myself foods that I love, I used portion control and just cut down on how much of that bad stuff I was eating, and starting eating more healthier stuff. During the week I'd eat plenty of healthy stuff, and then once I week I'd treat myself to like junk food, or got myself a burger or something as a personal reward. As for exercise, cardio is one of the best for burning calories, so fast walking/jogging is great for that. Maybe instead of casually walking home, you can jog or walk faster. Maybe try running since it sounds close by.

Also, water. Drink lots of water. And I should also mention, water.

Coda 01-28-2011 07:58 PM

25 pounds in 6 weeks? That's less than five pounds a week, which is a fairly reasonable rate for starting out.

Beast 01-28-2011 09:04 PM

Yeah, as much as one wants to just quickly shad off all those pounds, it's healthier to go at a pace of a few pounds a week.

Vinyl 01-30-2011 10:50 AM

I also really wouldn't recommend diet pills, they can cause all sorts of problems if not taken correctly or taken too often. Also, I wouldn't recommend any of the fad diets, as they never work. There is also a weight loss program that ships you powders that you mix into a paste and eat, steer clear of those too. I know a woman who took them and it started to cause her hair to fall out.

If you want to lose weight probably the best thing for you to do is eat healthily. As in, eat a balanced diet. I'm not saying you have to cut out all sugars and fats, just to eat them in moderation. Exercise also will not only help you lose weight, but it will also make you generally more healthy.

Drinking water rather than juices and other beverages is also really good, not only for your weight and complexion, but also for your teeth.

That's probably the safest way to go about losing weight, but one diet that is really good is Weight Watchers. If you follow their plan and eat the ready meals and things that they prepare you can lose weight pretty rapidly, just it requires a lot of will power and a few people I've spoken too say it gets very repetitive after a while.

Pocket 01-30-2011 11:09 AM

I drank a soda this week, ate McDonald's cuz I was out and about and I lost a pound this week, lol.
We don't have much snack food here..well its mainly a bag of chips but I can only handle so much salt.
Now that my hubby will be working, hopefully, I'll be eating really light and what not.

Letiel 01-30-2011 12:40 PM

I recommend weight watchers. I'm not on it but my mother lost a lot of weight and has maintained a healthy weight since.

Mr Ando 01-30-2011 02:56 PM

I disagree about retail :/ I worked at a Kohls for a month and a half, and not changing ANYTHING ELSE I lost 10 lbs :<

Pocket 01-30-2011 04:07 PM

Hmmm.. Well I just had a salad and it was so yummy I wish I had more..lol.

Fiyero 02-01-2011 02:17 AM

Im dieting right now as well..I dont really..want to?
like..Im fine with my size and stuff..though having less man boob (moob) would be nice...

Im just dieting because Id like to be more..fit. I dont care so much about the weight, Id just rather replace some of it with more muscle.

Alexander Linden 02-02-2011 01:06 AM

Start off small. Muscle weighs more than fat, and is much denser, also, just HAVING some muscle will make you lose weight more quickly. I suggest some strength training. Not a lot. Just starting out, maybe about 10 minutes every other day, and add more time to it as you start feeling stronger. Also, walking for 30 minutes, or 15-30 minutes of cardio is also a pretty good start too.

Count your calories as well. Check out you BMI and figure out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, and then check how many would be needed for your goal weight. Remember, if you are less active, you should eat less calories, but if you are more active, you'll need more calories, or you won't have any energy.

Do NOT starve yourself, and don't try to get into any sort of fad diets. They tell you a bunch of lies and make a lot of money off of your failed attempts to lose weight.
