How Come Nobody Remembers Him?

Him? From Powerpuff Girls? Y'know? "Him"? I consider myself a bit of a cartoon fanatic, and whenever Powerpuff Girls comes up with someone I've never talked about it to before, I seem to be the only who remembers him. Y'know him... Him. http://alonefancryinginthewilderness...010/07/him.gif

Repressed memories, maybe? Come to think of it, of all thing things that have been rejected by censors for children's cartoons, how did Him make the cut?

C'mon, he LICKED The Professor's face! (Two minutes in here> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfTD1NDNFIg )

And you thought Powerpuff Girls was all gumpdrops and glitter.

Lore 01-28-2011 12:11 AM

One of my favorite episodes is when the Powerpuff Girls race into the future on accident, and there Him is like... the ringleader of evil. That episode was so dark in nature, and I loved it.

The series wouldn't have been the same without Him, to be honest. : (

Ashy 01-28-2011 12:24 AM

i remember him :P

he was my favourite villain ><

Taiki 01-28-2011 12:49 AM

People do remember Him. xD People have been talking about him since the Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt show came out because the demon girls have red skin and for a while it didn't show their boss, so people were speculating it was Him. xDDD

Taradiddle 01-28-2011 01:02 AM

Haha, I guess I just don't know the right people. I do love Him as well, though. I just can't help but wonder, how was he presented to the censors in such a way that they were like, "Yes. This is definitely appropriate for children. Good work." He wasn't a minor character either, it's not like he could've been over-looked.

Maybe it was just because it was the 90's (although late 90's) and then the show got popular.

Cartoons that get away with the most: The ones that bring in the dough, and the ones that the network thinks are so insignificant, they don't bother to pay attention.

Edit: I had no idea what the Panty and Stocking with Garter Belt show was, so I looked it up on youtube and I... I feel mind raped.

Taiki 01-28-2011 03:51 AM

Oh dear. xD; Umm... the first few episodes are pretty bad... but once the Demon Sisters come in and there's an actual plot, it gets a lot better. >o>

Uke 01-28-2011 04:55 AM

Of course I remember Him! I identified with Him when I was younger!

The Mayor from Panty and Stocking reminds me of Him. xD

Taiki 01-28-2011 05:04 AM

See!! xDDD I'm not the only one who did.

Uke 01-28-2011 06:22 AM

Oh gosh, Him was AWESOME though! xD *high-fives*

Although I was like, "If I'm a boy who dresses like him... does that make me evil? ;3;"

Misericorde 01-28-2011 07:41 AM

I absolutely LOVED Him. Dx
If he hadn't of been on the PPG, I probably wouldn't have watched.

Echo-chan713 01-28-2011 10:01 AM

I know Him, I laughed everytime he appeared on an episode

Leah 01-28-2011 12:50 PM

I barely watched Powerpuff Girls, and even I know Him. XD

Azrael 01-28-2011 02:23 PM

XD Oh wow I forgot about Him... how the hell did he make it to a kid's cartoon? Haha. We look at today's shows and we're like "OURS WERE NEVER THIS BAD/DISGUSTING/WHATEVER" but then we sit down and remember things like this. XD Or Samurai Jack always running around in his underwear...

Taradiddle 01-29-2011 12:39 AM

Oh Hell yeah, 90's and early 2000 cartoons got pretty crazy, and I'm not just talking about Ren & Stimpy or Invader Zim. Cow and Chicken was pretty weird, from Red Guy to the episode with Cousin Boneless. (On a side note, I love that Charles Adler voiced Cow, Chicken, Red Guy, AND I.R. Baboon on the show.) Dexter's Laboratory had an episode banned thanks to The Silver Spooner, a gay stereotype parody of the Silver Surfer. (Though that's not really "crazy", it proves that a lot of cartoonists wanted to push the boundaries of "for children".) Even the girly, pre-teen cartoon As Told by Ginger had its grossness. Ginger's brother (Carl?) had an eyeball in a jar that, I believe, he stole from a hospital. Heck, even early Spongebob Squarepants had its moments. And let no one forget Courage the Cowardly Dog. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_BNtuQ4shs

Azrael 01-29-2011 01:27 AM

oh god Courage... XD I loved him. The creepiest one to me was either the one with the hairdresser or the one where the guy stole the plaque and all those plagues happened... ~shudder~ But I loved that show...

Mr Ando 01-29-2011 02:47 AM

He always scared the poop out of me x:

Vox 01-29-2011 05:35 AM

I think Craig McCracken et al got away with an effeminate evil being too horrible to be named outright because...it reminds everyone born before 1970 of the Blue Meanies from Yellow Submarine. And with that little nod to nostalgia, they could proceed undisturbed.

Taradiddle 01-29-2011 11:15 PM

Vox, I had to look up the Blue Meanies to see what you were talking about, but there is EASILY some connections, so that may have very well been why he got away with so much.

Hmm, I wonder if anyone can dig anything up on this, I think I remember an episode where Bubble's octopus doll was talking to her and it turned out to be Him, but I don't remember enough to know distinctly if it was an actual episode or just my brain piecing scraps of memory together. All I remember is Bubbles talking to her doll and then it growing big or something.

Devri 01-30-2011 12:24 AM

@___@ Ahh, Him! I do remember him - he always reminded me of barbecue sauce. OTL

Sei 01-30-2011 12:54 AM

Courage! My favorite episode was the hairdresser one! ...NAUGHTY! >.>;

Taradiddle 01-30-2011 04:06 AM

Ah yes, Freaky Fred. "Hello, new friend! My name is Fred. The words you hear are in my head. I say, I said, my name is Fred. And I've been... very naauughty."

It's short, but what about this nightmare Courage had? It's pretty odd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jksDJ...eature=related

Though my favorite episode was with the space squids that made stars. That one is really sad...

Fiyero 01-30-2011 10:01 PM

I remember Him..

Duchess 01-30-2011 10:39 PM

I remember EVERYONE! >__>

I remember the crazy collector who wanted to steal the PPG's

The crazy feminist lady.... who made the ppgs extremists.

LUCKY. CAPTAIN. RABBIT. KING.

I know everything...... >>

That's what you get for being an insane fan with the 6 season box set |3

Taradiddle 01-31-2011 04:05 AM

Yessss! So many cartoon fans! I feel like I've suddenly found lost brethren or something. (Okay, maybe not that epic, but...)

Duchess: Lucky! I need to get Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Hey Arnold! on DVD at least. Some day.... some day. I just have Edd, Ed 'n Eddy first and second season and the first episodes of Flapjack. My collection must grow!!!!

Arachnocampa 01-31-2011 06:05 AM

Oh, the nostalgia~!
I used to be a HUGE PPG fan when I was little. I can't remember if Bubbles or Buttercup was my favorite of the three girls. But Him used to freak me out a bit back then. Now I'm just like "IT'S HIM! O: Pfff, lookit him, he's so fabulous. I love it." Hahaaa. orz

Awh man, so many cartoons of my childhood!

Taradiddle 01-31-2011 07:23 PM

I loved it when I was little, but now I'm like, "Eh." Unless Tom Kenny is saying something, then I get all excited. (Tom Kenny fan)

Actually, I'm a fan of pretty much any voice actor I can name by the sound of their voice.

Lore 02-02-2011 11:04 AM

Speaking of voice actors, Johnny Yong Bosch yes? He's my absolute favorite~

M e w 02-02-2011 12:19 PM

Oh I definitely remember Him. U8
I used to love the POWDERpuff Girls and I always thought of Him as the biggest baddest villian. xD
It is amazing that he was put into the show though... he was always pretty creepy to me haha.
But hey, I watched the PPG all the time and saw Him and look how I turned out.... perfectly.... fine. o u o;
Lol.

Gazorith 02-02-2011 12:30 PM

I remember Him!
He was like, my favorite villain from the show! xD

Hermes 02-02-2011 01:34 PM

Him! Yes, I do remember him!

And the gang green gang XD

Taradiddle 02-03-2011 01:57 AM

I loved pretty much all the major villains, The Mayor, the Professor, and Buttercup.

Jenny Harper 02-07-2011 11:33 AM

I loved Him. The first instance of Him being there made my skin crawl. It was Psychotic

Demonskid 02-07-2011 12:38 PM

I hated Him =w= his voice annoyed me so much xD

My favorite Villan was Mojo Jojo cause he was a evil monkey... and.. I hate monkeys so it fits and proves to me that monkeys are evil!

But I remember him...

Echo-chan713 02-07-2011 04:42 PM

I agree with DK, he was so annoying but he was so unique he wasn't the average bad guy, he was a crossdressing demon with crab claws and no one could think of a name than HIM

I liked Princess for some reason because she had motivation to destroy the Powerpuff Girls' lives because they kept rejecting her to be a part of the Powerpuff Girls. Even when Princess had all the things any girl could possibly want and the trio didn't care about that. All they knew was that she was evil and a little brat and they knew that they didn't want to deal with a brat in their team if they did say 'yes you can join in our team'.

Duchess 02-07-2011 09:55 PM

Powerpuff aren't a "team". They're a family.. sisters if you may. The only persons who joined their "team" was that squirrel, Bullet they saved to part of their family... AND that powerpuff they created themselves called Bunny.. who was also part of the family.

As far as motivation goes... Mojo Jojo has the most motivation. he was REPLACED. and IGNORED. and KICKED OUT OF HIS HOME >O

Who cares if he was truly a miserable chimp, no animal deserves to be neglected like that just because you've got daughters now *rolls eyes*

I'm all with mojo for revenge and taking over the world >__>

NikkoGallarado 02-08-2011 12:48 AM

I loves him he reminds me of the Devil~

The crossdressing devil...teehee

Dushess: I know their sisters, they work together like team.

Taradiddle 02-24-2011 09:14 AM

They're a team of sisters, problem solved.

Whenever I heard them go, "It's... Him!!!", I always thought of it as more of a "He who must not be named" kind a way or in a godly sort.

Duchess 02-24-2011 01:41 PM

that's precisely it! =D

That's what Craig said in the commentary for the PPG 10th anniversary... originally in the test episode he was "the devil" xDDD but... HIM is sooooooooo much better |D

Taradiddle 02-25-2011 02:09 AM

Definitely. Him sounds so much more powerful and unspeakable.
