So far, all that has happened in the story is that a large powerful violet orb has appeared over volcano that lies at the center of the continent. It is a portal of some kind. As more important stuff happens in the story I will revise this and make it more story like rather than a recap.

Rhys
Rhys rushed into the mage headquaters ignoring the usual sneers and scoffs that he usually got, and dodged his way through a crowd up to Avandra Galandril, head mage.
"What is it?" he said as the mage scanned over table full of books and scrolls, all having arcane symbols and drawings depicting a strange violet sphere.
"As far as I can tell," the mage said, "it is a portal of some kind. Where it goes and why it showed up is still unknown, but a portal of that size can't be good. It seems to be similar to a legend from thousands of years ago. The legend states that some kind of army marched across the lands wiping out all in their path until only a small holdout remained. These survivors held a number of powerful mages, and together they were able to banish the army back to where it came from, though they sacrificed their lives in the process."
"So what do we do?" A gruff voice barked as a large man pushed his way through the crowd.
"What we do, is we find out what exactly this is and what to do about it." Avandra replied. "We need information. Rhys, can you scout it out?"
"Yeah. I'll be back shortly."
Rhys retreated to a balcony. Rhys looked like a half-elf of average height with short brown hair and crimson eyes. But that was what he WAS. Apon reaching the balcony, his red cloak suddenly spread into large crimson leathery wings and his eyes began to glow like fiery orbs. He leapt off the balcony and soured into the sky where a massive violet orb was stationed miles away over the volcano that lay at the center of the continent. The orb pulsed with energy, blasts of power striking the top of the mountain.

Tarrek
Tarrek marched along side a wagon as it slowely moved forward. He hadn't even seen the man he was supposed to protect. Even the one who offered him the job wore a heavy cloak that hid his face and talked soft and rough like he was hiding his voice. This job was cloaked in all kinds of secrecy that he wanted nothing to do with. But money was money' and this money happened to be a LOT. Maybe enough so that he could finally stop this useless mercenary work.
There were several other mercenaries surrounding the cart, all unaquanted. They didn't even know where they were going, only that they were supposed to protect whoever was inside the wagon until it reached it's destination.
Suddenly the wagon did stop. Right in the middle of the road. Tarrek looked around cautiously, as did the others. Just as suddenly, he was knocked off his feet and as a deafening blast shook the ground and sent him sprawling forward. A wave of dust swept by from the wagon. As it settled, Tarrek saw that the wagon had been blasted to pieces. In the distance he could see a strange violet beam moving extremely fast from where the wagon had stood. The beam was headed strait for the top of Mount Felfire.
Disoriented, Tarrek looked around finding that the other mercenaries were in a similar state.
"What the 'ell just 'appened?" One of them barked as he slowely climbed to his feet.
They all followed the beam as it continued toward the volcano. A blast of light suddenly blinded them. When they were able to see again, they found that a massive violet orb had appeared over the mountain.

Beggining: Enter Heridon

Tauge Heridon
Naturally running through the forests of Halfrond, Tauge checked the The Alchemist's Book of Alchemy a second time.
"Mmmmhmmm, so then the plant that I'm looking for is....this one." He pointed to a strange, purple mushroom at the base of the black tree, one of many in this spooky place. However, Tauge was not afraid of the ominous presence from the forest; he welcomed it. It was a darkness he knew well....
Sweeping up the purple mushroom and storing it in his black lab coat, he sprinted off back to his home at the fringe of both the forest and the town of Halfrond, his soft, leather boots providing little hindrance as he stepped over roots, ducked under branches, and sidestepped through the trees while his shoulder length hair followed him faithfully.
Sunset hit the workshop and residence of Tauge Heridon when he arrived back with the strange shroom. He was greeted with the usual treatment from the townsfolk: a broken window, a shattered door, a few papers thrown here and there, but this didn't bother the chemist's mind. Throwing open the trap door toward the back of his house, he climbed in, and shut the door.
It always took a few minutes to readjust his eyes to the light but it was those moments which he treasured most. You cannot see, you cannot harm nor be harmed, and you cannot know. Knowing is bad sometimes, but when it's good, write it down because you don't want to know later. This time he dreamed of the day when he lost it all: his life, his name, his sanity. It all went up into flames:
"Smoke rose from mansion which was once called home, screams came from the inside, chilling the bones. Arrest, Trial, Banishment, and here you are, Old Heridon, living undergrond, again," thought the man. A tear ran down his face at the thought. Tauge Heridon wasn't even that old by the standards of Dark Elves, but with what he experienced, it seemed like a lifetime. The tear droped off of his face, seeping in to his leather vest.
Suddenly, a pulse was felt by the depressed chemist. Tauge opened his eyes It was a pulse of power. He blinked twice... and the power felt good. It was calling to him, promising redemption, life, happiness....things that were from the past. Despite his disposition, the Elf wasn't falling for folly any time soon. He was a couple decades too old for that. Grabbing his bow and his seventy willow arrows, he figured that the time was right. The time to leave this hell-hole of exile.
"Sorry, good shroom. It looks like your death was yet in vain." The cave was now better illuminated, the moon seeping into the room. Pulling out the Mushroom from his lab coat again, he saw that it was glowing, but making poisons out of Harathian Mushrooms would have to wait another time. There was an evil out in the world.
"An evil in which requires my vegence," thought Tauge, and he marched back towards the trap door, leaving the mushroom to regrow inside the cave. He wouldn't be able to keep it tidy much longer, with all of the angry mobs. Tauge decided to move away after the job was done. He picked up the knife, opened the trap door, stabbed the man who ran towards him, and left towards the source of the evil under cover of night.

An Encounter with the Ban...dits

Tauge Heridon
Morning rose and afternoon was well on its way when the dark elf decided to rest. The light wasn't the most comfortable thing to be under, so Tauge set up camp to wait until nightfall. Drafting up tents, and setting a fire seemed like the reasonable thing to do, but to Heridon, it drew too much attention. He was on a quest for vengeance, and he didn't want the wills of others won't get in his way.
"Not this time, at least," he thought. Setting himself up in the shade of a willow, he fell asleep in a state half alert and half in rest. Tauge had a strong attachment to the willow trees, and often found comfort under the shade of their long, widely-spread branches. He made his bow from its bark, and his arrows were carved from its branches soon after he had left Nath' Karond Harath...but that was a long time ago:
Walking out of the burrows, the tunnels that he was left in to die, Tauge caught site of the first signs of nature since his months of imprisonment, trials, and eventual punishment. "Abandoned?" Heridon thought, "Or free?"
Heridon had never seen wild life of this sort before. Here where the stars are seen and the moon makes the plant life glow and where the fireflies lead the way, Heridon wandered off to find new shelter, shelter which became an old willow tree.

Startled, Tauge drew his knife, if only to meet it with another.
"Woah, ho there now. We don't want to hurt you," the stranger stated. Heridon's "camp" was surrounded by masked men. There were about four or five including the guy in front of Tauge. All of them wore masks. All of them looked unfriendly, even the man near Heridon. Tauge observed these things, before predicting the outcome of the battle. Leaping into action, the man with the knife was stabbed and his knife dropped, caught, and thrown at another random robber. Tauge worked qiuickly, making his way to his bag by the time the bandits could surround him. Smirking, he only laughed and said, "Kill me, I know you can." But no one did. No one could, and Tauge left with what he wanted. A hundred dead corpses, a new set of clothes, and a clue. If evil was affecting ordinary men even more, than usual, which Tuage was pretty certain of, then his destination was getting closer.
Picking up his blood stained bag, he walked towards the river, miles away, to wash out the blood.

Tarrek 03-11-2011 06:05 AM

Rhys
Rhys was still a couple miles from the portal. Even so, the incredible power pouring forth was almost unbarable. The land around the orb was already being effected by the strange energies being emitted. The trees and grass at the base of the mountain had fallen and died and wildlife was nowhere to be seen.
I've got to land and take this slowely, he thought to himself already feeling drained from his distance to the portal. He glided down to the ground. The second he landed something happened. A dense fog was suddenly surrounding him. It didn't rise from the ground or anything, it just appeared. Through the thick fog all he could see was an ominous reddish light.
"Hmmm. Strange red light in an odd thick fog. NOT where I want to go." Rhys said aloud.
"And yet you won't have much of a choice," a voice whispered from around him, "now will you?"
"Oh really!" He retorted. "It seems to me that if I don't want to walk toward the light that I should just walk...that...way..."
He slowed down as he turned around and saw that the light had appeared in the direction he had set off in.
"Well that's interesting" He said. "Guess I don't have much choice now. Hey strange voice! I'll see you in a sec."

Tarrek 03-11-2011 06:26 AM

Tarrek
Examining the reckage to the wagon, Tarrek couldn't find a single hint of human remains.
What is this about? he thought to himself.
"I... don't know what that thing is, but I don't want anything to do with it." said one of the other mercenaries. "I'm leaving."
"I don't know about you all, but I was promised a large sum of many for this job." Tarrek announced. "and I intend to get paid as well as get some answers as to why I was just about killed and what in the bloody light that thing is." He started walking north. Toward the mountain.
"Where are you going?" asked one of the others.
"I'm going to find who hired me. Where else can you think to start but that thing." He replied.
"Whatever. You're flaming crazy. I'm headed back to town." The other all followed.
Good. Tarrek thought. I prefer to be alone.
.....
Night had fallen after several hours of walking and Tarrek had stopped for the night just off the road. He made a simple camp and after a small meal went to sleep. He awoke to a dense fog all around him. Something seemed odd about it. This wasn't normal fog.
Of course. I'm just that lucky. he thought to himself.
In the distance he could see a strange red light.
Hmmm. A strange red light in an unworldly fog. Yeah. Not going that way. he thought.
"Can't see a bloody thing." He grumbled. He headed off toward where the road was. After walking for a few seconds, he stopped.
"Where's the flaming road?" he cursed. Taking a few more steps, he spotted something dark on the ground. walking closer he ducked to get a better look. A closed hand and half of an arm lie in the dirt. Around the wrist there was a common mercenary tattoo.
This must be one of the others. he thought. What is going on?
Suddenly, in the distance he spotted the red light again.
"Guess I don't have a bloody choice!" he cursed as he set off towards it.

Eillaf.

He rubbed his hands greedily, at the feast before him. He watched as his specter friend roamed around the after math of the wreckage. There wasn’t much left, nothing that others deemed of value, but to Eillaf they were perfect. His hands rummaged over a piece of stray fabric. He plucked it off the ground giving it a once over. His eyes peered over at his friend sniffing the bloodstained bodies on the ground. A pair of thick jaws clamped on to an object lifting it into space so that Eillaf could see. He wondered over to the floating object. It was a nice knife something that he could pawn in town. He tucked it away in the nest of his arm along with the other goods he found. This is splendid, he said more to himself then two his friend. You shouldn’t be so happy about these strange occurrences. Eillaf scoffed leave it to his friend to ruin his happy mood. When Eillaf had a satchel full of miscancellous items that he felt were of worth he headed towards the nearest town.

(( I hope this is alright I am not quite sure what the plot is ))

Tarrek 03-13-2011 04:21 AM

Rhys
As he made his way through the fog, Rhys began to sense a dark power coming from the light ahead of him.
This has to have something to do with that portal. he thought to himself.
He was close now. He could even hear a pulsating hum from ahead. Also cracks of energy popped and sparked from ahead. One second he was inside the thick wall of fog, and the next he stepped into a clearing. The fog formed a dome around him. In the center of the clearing there was a large gateway of some kind.
"I assume you are intrigued as to the meaning of our object." a voice sounded as a figure appeared from the far side of the clearing. "as well as why you cannot leave the area."
As he approached, Rhys saw that the figure was a tall man in rich dressings. He wore leather gloves of a texture that was not that of a cow.
"You see, we need those such as yourself in order to complete our plans. I'm sure you've noticed the portal over the center of you lands. As of now, it is not active. However, thanks to you as well as several others, that will soon be rectified."
Rhys chuckled.
"Well, only if you say please." he joked. "But seriously, anyone with any kind of connection to the arcane can sense the evil from that thing, and I can tell you that the only part I will have in interacting with it is to see it closed."
"You act as if you will have a choice." The man said as his eyes began to glow red. "You will be the first step to our plot. When we are done, this world will be renewed to our liking!"
He blasted his hand forward and a lance of energy flashed toward Rhys. He twisted to the side narrowly avoiding the attack.
"You'll have to do batter than that if you want to kill me." He said as he retorted with a burst of flames. The man spun his hand in front of him and the fire struck a shield.
"You would have no use to me dead. And you may wish to think twice of you thought I missed" He whispered.
Rhys looked back just before he was engulfed by a violet wave of energy. His body surged with pain as he fell to the ground. Than darkness came.

Meeting

Tauge Heridon
Finally washing his bag off from the river, he looked towards the mountain in which the river came from. Above it was a Violet Orb, the very one that emitted the strange power, power that he felt when his house burned and when he left, disgraced and banished. Anger washed over Herdion.
"Soon," he thought. "Very soon."
He let his anger recede as he saw a body floating down the river. It seemed to be a man, but scales covered parts of his body. He was a Dragonsworn, a half-bred dragon-human hybrid, an outcast.
"Like me," thought Tauge, and in conclusion he grabbed the body as it floated near Tauge. If he wanted to save this one, he would half to work quickly. The back of the Dragonsworn was nearly blown straight off. His skin was burned severely. Covering up the opened skin (probably from the current), Heridon grabbed the nearest weed he could find. Kings-foil. The Alchemist's Book of Alchemy made note of this weed as a wonderful healing supplement. Tauge looked around to see if there were any rocks good for grinding. There were none.
"Well, my spit won't kill ya, will it," Tauge said to the unconscious body. He began to chew the Kings-foil in preparation to make a poultice.

Poggio 03-13-2011 07:25 PM

Eillaf was to busy mentally counting what could possibly be the best dinner he had had in a while to notice the low menacing growl emanating from Aurelian. As he walked pools of fog began to radiate around his feet, before long Eillaf realized he was knee deep in the silvery mist. He quickly looked around to see what was wrong. It had not rained in days and he was no were near a swamp. He heard Aurelian growl then. Eillaf frantically turned to look at his ghostly friend. His vision was soon encased in darkness but for a faint red glow. It made Eillaf curious, immediately the items he was holding fell into nothingness. “That’s right child…” A voice came from the darkness. Eillaf turned his head frantically around wondering from wince it came. He looked back down at Aurelian. Did you hear that? He asked the beast. All he got in response was a mangy headshake. What ever it is don’t listen to it.

It was followed by a soothing laugh. Eillaf looked in the direction of the laugh. He saw a lavishly dressed man. He couldn’t phantom why Aurelian thought this man to be dangerous until he gazed into his eyes. He let out a small gasp. Only in his dreams could he image the specters that Aurelian described to him. This one was real, and he was making a steady stride towards Eillaf. “When I look at you I see infinite possibilities…” The creature went on saying unphased by Aurelian “You could be a petty crook all your life or…” He gestured towards the gate. “Help me, use your powers for me. “ With that the mighty panther lunged at the man, and Eillaf followed suit arming himself with one of his daggers. The man with the glowing eyes disappeared before reappearing behind Eillaf. “Think about it boy” Eillaf turned and aimed a punch at where the man stood. Instead his body seized up pain. The last thing he remembered before plunging into darkness was the violet light and the sound of Aurelian calling his name.

Tarrek 03-13-2011 08:05 PM

Tarrek
Tarrek continued making his way through the fog, the forboding glow growing brighter as he closed in. He suddenly stepped into a clearing and saw a strange glowing doorway in the center. To his right, there was a richly dressed man standing over a crumpled form, trails of dark mist shifting off him.
That mist! he thought to himself raising his gloved right hand to his eyes.
"Yes." said the man as he turned to regard Tarrek. "The energy you sense is from the same power source as the one who gave you your gift."
"Gift!" Tarrek spat.
"If you only knew." the man said.
"Who are you?" Tarrek asked as he reached above his shoulder grasping his massive weapon, a 5 foot long blade, in one hand. His hand becane to glow violet as he brought the weapon forward pointing the edge at the man's neck. His glove fell into pieces that burned before they hit the ground. Where his glove was before, there was now his bare hand covered in a glowing tattoo that stretched halfway up his arm.
"You know," the man replied "that arm has much more power than you've made use of. I could help you gain that power."
"I don't want this bloody power!" Tarrek roared.
"Well that is a shame. I guess we'll just have to use you as we will this half-breed." The man's eyes began to glow with a crimson light. He shot his hand forward and a blast of violet energy shot forward. Rather than dodging, Tarrek brought his blade forward. The energy burst upon impact with the sword, but than it swirled around the blade and was absorbed into it.
"I guess you don't know this power as well as you thought!" Tarrek said as his eyes began to glow with a light the color that the blast had been.
A look of surprise was all the man could show as the warrior brough his blade to and than through his center bisecting him from his left shoulder to his roght leg. The second he fell, wind abruptly began to swirl around the area. It quickly gained in strength until Tarrek had to fight against it. The dragonsworn on the ground began to move toward the gateway in the center of the clearing, pulled along with the fog. Tarrek leaped for him and cought his leg before he could pass through. He fought his way away from the doorway along with his passenger back into the fog. After a few moments, he passed through other side and watched as the wall moved toward where the clearing had been. The fog cleared, and he saw a flash of the gateway before it exploded in a violet eruption.

TWILIGHT
Something was definitely wrong. Opening her eyes, Twilight sat up, her leather clad legs dropping down on either side so that she sat straddling the branch she had been previously napping upon. Looking down the first thing she noticed was the distinct silence. With a frown, she grabbed her broadsword she had hung on another branch and dropped silently down onto the forest floor. Kneeling down she listened more intently, nothing.
Slinging the large blade over her shoulder, she adjusted the strap across her chest and stood up scanning the area for anything her ears might have missed. The distinct sound of snapping twigs had Twilight whirling around in an instant, the crossbow that had been hanging at her side now in her hand as she aimed at the source of the sound. A small black doe darted out from behind a bush. Lowering the weapon, the wood-elf watched as the frightened animal ran away. It wasn’t afraid of her.
Looking in the direction the animal had come from, Twilight wondered what had been so terrifying that is had managed to scare off the majority of the wild life in the area. Keeping her crossbow in hand, she decided to investigate and began running in the direction the animal had come from. She moved quickly and quietly through the woods, an easy enough task. The woods were similar to the woods of her homeland, which was in part why she had decided to take up camp in one of its trees.
The air took on a distinct chill the further into the forest she moved. Soon she found herself running through a fog bank. ‘Odd…where did this fog come from?’ Slowing her pace a bit, the wood-elf let her eyes readjust to the mist. Not to far from her location she felt a sudden pull in the wind that almost knocked her off her feet. Gripping onto a nearby tree, Twilight gripped tightly onto the bark to avoid being drawn in by the suction. It didn’t last long. The winds soon died down and she found herself standing once again in a still wood, even the fog had vanished. The calm was short lived as a bright flash of violet erupted about forty yards to her left. When the light faded, her frown returned.
Magic…it had to have been magic’ she thought. Twilight and magic had never been on the best of terms, at best she was only able to master a few healing spells and charms, but all her attempts at anything larger than that tended to end up disastrously for her so she tried to avoid the stuff as much as possible. Still, she was curious as to what had driven the animals off and disturbed her from her sleep. Still armed with her crossbow, Twilight made her way towards where the light had vanished. As she neared a small clearing, she crouched behind a tree and studied the area, spotting two forms near the center of the area.

Tarrek 03-15-2011 04:44 PM

Tarrek/Rhys
Tarrek stepped back as a pair of large leathery wings unwrapped from the downed form, slowely tranforming into an elegant crimson cloak. Rhys sat up and shaded his eyes from the sun with his hand.
"Ya mind closing that window?" He said sarcastically as he made his way to his feet. Tarrek stayed quiet with his sword at the ready.
"Yeah, ya know? I was just blasted with something that I have no idea what it was and feel like I just fought the Tarrasque. I don't think you'll need that weapon if you really intend to kill me." Rhys said.
Tarrek stayed quiet.
"Well, whatever. I've got to go report to the mages guild. You're welcome to come along if you wish. Unless you want to stay here and wait for another one of those things to show up."
"I suppose I'll come with you than. What was that thing exactly?" Tarrek asked.
"I was actually hoping you could answer that for me. With that tattoo and strange magic and all, I thought you'd know a little about it." Rhys replied.
"Well...I don't exactly..." he stopped as he heard the faint sound of leaves rustling from the surrounding wood.
"There is someone watching us." he whispered
"I know, my eyes and ears are better than common folk. I've been able to hear her since I woke up." Rhys replied. "You can go ahead and come out!" he yelled. "I at least won't bite."

Mirror Gardens 03-15-2011 05:01 PM

TWILIGHT
Twilight narrowed her eyes as she watched the people in the clearing. From what she could see the one with the sword was human. The other one she was not a sure about, but she assumed he was some sort of magic user…she sort of liked the cloak and vaguely wondered if was physically attached. She was stirred from her thoughts when the one with the fancy red cloak called out. Apparently the man had good ears. Quietly, Twilight stepped out from behind the tree. The forest was still too quiet for her tastes. Keeping her crossbow up, she kept both men within her sight. She distrusted magic users and while she enjoyed the company of most humans, she was never foolish enough to let her guard down around them, especially ones with weapons.
“Who are you? What was that light?”

Tarrek 03-15-2011 06:55 PM

Tarrek/Rhys
"We aren't exactly sure." said Rhys. "It kind of just appeared. There was some evil guy and some fog, but with my awesome charm and skills I valiantly defeated him."
"Yeah. That's exactly what happened. You weren't smoldering on the ground or anything when I came out and rescued you." Tarrek said sarcastically. "No. No chance of you being pulled to safety by a mere mercenary. Aside from that, I'm Tarrek, and who and what exactly are you?" he asked Rhys.
"Bah. The past is past. I'm Rhys by the way. Half-elf, half dragon. I'm a sorcerer too." he replied, "I know: 'he's half-dragon, such a horror.' I've heard it before. But don't you worry. I'm just as nice as...well, a nice person."

Mirror Gardens 03-16-2011 12:00 AM

TWILIGHT
Keeping her focus more on the one called Rhys now, Twilight kept her crossbow raised. “Normally I would be fascinated at meeting a dragon half-breed, but the fact that you are a sorcerer puts you on my immediate do not trust list.” Which was true, she had met dragons before and hadn’t really had much troubles with them. Glancing at the human she raised an eyebrow. “And you sound about as friendly as a grizzly.” Looking at the two men before her, she finally decided that they did not appear to be an immediate threat, and lowered her weapon, but kept it in hand at her side. “So about this ‘evil guy,’ if you defeated him, where is the body?”

Tarrek 03-16-2011 02:03 AM

Tarrek/Rhys
Tarrek scanned the area looking back to where the gateway had been.
"It must have been pulled in as the portal collapsed. He's dead and gone, and that's all that matters."
"No." Rhys raised his hand into the air and small trails of energy shifted appeared and dissapated.
"He's not dead. Or I guess I should say it. Bahamut knows what gender it actually is. No. It's just been banished back to wherever it came. I coud at least tell that it was a supernatual being of some kind. maybe a demon or devil. Maybe if I could get the mages back in the tower to examine your arm, we could find out."
Tarrek stepped back hiding his exposed tattoo even more than he already had been.
"I don't want any of you flaming mages experimenting on me."
Rhys rolled his eyes and grinned sarcastically.
"Oh, I'm a sorcerer, not a mage, remember? I'm sure we could find some other type of magic user if you don't trust the mages. I don't always trust them myself. You'd trust a cleric wouldn't you? Or maybe a paladin?"
"I've changed my mind." Tarrek exclaimed. "I think I'll just go back to what I was doing. I should make you bloody pay me for pulling you out of there, but I'm gonna get paid for something one way or another. maybe I'll get some answers about THAT flaming thing too." he said pointing at the giant violet orb.
"That's actually why I was out here. Gathering intel. Good luck getting much closer than this though. That thing is putting out more power than the whole mage's guild could ever hope to have. It's a portal of some kind. I'm assuming that it has to do with the gateway and the wierd guy who used the same magic that your arm holds."
Rhys looked away towards the mage guild headquarters.
"I need to get back and see if they've found out any more information. You're welcome to come, though you may have to ride a magic steed to keep up."
Tarrek looked toward the mountain.
"No. I'm getting what I came out here for, danger or not. What about you elf?"

Eillaf

Eillaf listened to the distorted version of his companion’s voice. There was something about the purple glow that made his entire body writhe with a small pulsing pain. You can pull through kiddo! He let in a deep sharp breathe, opening his eyes to the light of the day as his head bobbed above the water. He could see Aurelian floating just above the current. He had so many questions, that his mind was a frantic mess, not really able to concentrate on swimming. His head dipped below the current invading his lungs with water, which he frantically spat back out. Eillaf! Eillaf! He resurfaced once again to note his surroundings quickly passing by him. Eillaf calm down, the current is tapering off up ahead, you should be able to swim to shore. It was nice to know he wasn’t alone. When Eillaf bobbed to the surface gain he understood what Aurelian was trying to say to him. He let his body relax and drifted with his head above the current. Vaguely aware of what he was doing his body seemed to have slip control from him. Relax Eillaf and let me take over.

The young boy normally had qualms about lending his body to the spirits. It was a thing only reserved for fighting since he feared he would loose his soul to the other world and a ghost take over his body. The ghost forced the body to swim to shore, waiting until he passed under the long branches off a cypress tree near the coast. Aurelian hauled the small body up into the branch, crawling on to the grassy shore before leaving Eillafs body. The ghost left the boy panting to go search for supplies near by. As he came around the tree, a few yards away as he saw a darkened figure with long hair tending to yet another fallen person. He pondered as to how to get the attention of the young Elf, and even if he did would help the child with his impure blood? Aurelian had no way of knowing how the violent light affected Eillaf. Anxiously he made his way towards the two people

TWILIGHT
Twilight watched at the two conversed. To be honest the dragon half-breed’s speech had confused her. She assumed he was talking about whatever it was whom they had been fighting. Other than that, all the talk about magic was starting to give her a headache. She did however pay more attention when the human pointed somewhere in the distance. Curious as to what that he was speaking about, she followed the direction in which he had been pointing and saw a large violet orb floating in the distance. How had she not noticed it before? Its glow reminded her of the flash of light that had led her to the clearing…a portal if she had heard the one called Rhys correctly. Studying the orb, Twilight found herself frowning. The forest was still quiet, which disturbed her, and she had a sinking feeling the forest would not return to normal until that thing disappeared.
Again her attention was brought back to the men as the half-breed spoke again of the human Tarrek’s tattoo. She hadn’t really caught it the first time around, but apparently the man’s tattoo was magical. ‘More magic…lovely.’ Twilight continued to listen to the conversation as both parties discussed what they would do next. When asked what she planned to do, the wood-elf could only stare at them for a moment as she processed what was going on. Putting the crossbow away, she shrugged in response to the human’s question. “I honestly have no idea what you two are talking about. But the forest has been disrupted by whatever that thing is.” She gestured towards the orb before looking at Tarrek. “So if you are going that way, would you be opposed to an extra sword?” In honesty, she merely wanted to learn more about the orb, and the best way for her to do that was to get up close and personal with it. Well the best way without having to deal with the magically inclined like Rhys and mages and other members of a magically based society.

Hypothermia?

Tauge Heridon
An explosion startled Tuage as he flashed a look around. Grabbing his bow, he nocked an arrow and pulled back, increasing the tension on the string. Were an enemy to attack, now would have been the best chance...but no one attacked. Tauge relaxed his aim, releasing the tension. Looking towards the mountain, the orb, he had been searching for, had disappeared.
Curse my compassion. Is this one really worth the trouble?
Tauge looked at the hybrid, laying on the grass, stomach up since his back was now bandaged. The half-dragon's wounds were healing up nicely. However, the body was cold; not dead cold, but it was colder than it should have been, indicating hypothermia?
Perhaps he was in the water for a large amount of time.
He concluded that he would need to gain some body heat, if he wanted to survive, so he took off his lab coat, and used it to give the injured man an extra layer of warmth, calculating the danger of starting a fire versus it's necessity.
Tauge looked towards the mountain, tracking the river where he saw him. It was a few miles from the mountain to camp, so he could have been floating for around mile's worth of the average speed of the current. Without knowledge of the area, there were enough possibilities to consider any tragedy or accident, for that matter. With the aura that the ball was giving off, it was more likely to be the earlier conclusion.
But looking closer to the camp, he found that someone was climbing out of the water.
A companion of his, or a foe...
Tauge waited to see his next course of action: the traveler walked towards the camp, as a vague form moved away from him. It wasn't midday but at least that person should have bee identifiable.
Not normal, and likewise not trustworthy.
Tauge pulled back again. Resuming his aim, Tauge pointed at the newcomer, motioning him to step no further, unless he wanted an arrow to the head.
"I've had little trouble with the thieves a few miles behind me. Would you like to join them?"

Tarrek 03-16-2011 04:54 AM

Tarrek/Rhys
Tarrek began to walk toward the mountain.
"You're welcome to come along, just don't slow me down."
Rhys began to run and leaped into the air, his cloak spreading into wings.
"Good luck!" He shouted as he glided away.
Tarrek turned his head as he continued down the road.
"I'm headed to the next town. Hopefully there are some answers there."

Tarrek 03-16-2011 05:09 AM

Rhys
Rhys could feel the immense power of the portal the second he was in the air. His skin was still tender from the attack he had endured, and his bones felt like shattered glass. In his weakened state he knew he would have to take his time as he made his way back to the capital. He didn't get as much info as he liked, but he hoped that what he had would be enough for the mages to make something of it.
After an hour of flying, Rhys had to stop. Breathing heavy, he glided to the ground and flopped onto his side to rest. The pain from his encounter still had not gotten any better. In fact, he felt worse than he had after he had woken up. His bones pulsed in waves of pain, his flesh still burning. He looked at his arm and saw that lines of purple had appeared where his veins lie close to the surface.
Is this poison, or what?
He reached into a pouch he kept at his side and pulled out a vial filled with bright red liquid.
I was hoping to save this for a rainy day, but I need to hurry up and find out what is wrong with me.
He brough the container to his lips drinking the liquid in a single gulp. Immediately the effects took hold. His strength reterned, though the pain was still as intense as ever.
No time to sit here. he thought taking off into the sky. Now that he was more focused, he surveyed the area. What he saw he didn't like. In the distance there was a small walled city. There was a purple glow, from what he could tell from the distance, in the town square.
Guess I'll have to take the scenic route. he thought as he turned toward the town.

TWILIGHT
Twilight could only stare again with fascination at the half-dragon’s cloak…wings. If she were a thief she probably would have tried to taken it by now if possible. She still couldn’t tell if they were really wings that changed into a cloak or vice versa. Oh well. Looking back towards the human she noted that he had already began heading down the road and quickly caught up to him. While they walked, she kept a decent distance from the man. She was still weary of him. Glancing at the tattoo on his arm, she debated whether or not to ask about it. “So…Tarrek. You mentioned something about getting what you came for…may I ask what that is? You of course do not have to answer, I was merely curious.”

Tarrek 03-16-2011 07:57 PM

Tarrek
"I'm a mercenary." Tarrek said.
"I took a job escorting a wagon to an undisclosed location. We were paid a quarter of the cost beforehand and were to recieve the rest when we came to the location. The thing is, the wagon exploded and there wasn't a sign of any living thing in the wreckage."
He decided to keep back the fact that something had shot away from the wagon and likely helped create the massive portal.
"Now since this is the direction we were headed. I plan to find whomever I can that is connected to it and get my money as well as some information as to why I was almost killed twice since I took the bloody job."

Eillaf

Eillaf recovered silently on the bank, while Aurelian went off. He slowly stood up as he heard a man voice ringing out in the forest. He had already encountered thieves. Eillaf fell back on to the grass. His side where the violet light hit him was throbbing in pain but he couldn’t see what exactly was wrong, just a giant swelling of purple and red. He propped himself up again. He could see his ghost friend setting patiently waiting between him and were the voice came from. The man had a voice aimed in Eillafs direction. Aurelian’s voice popped up in his mind “… I think he can see me?” Aureian watched the man through curious eyes. It seemed as though his arrow was aimed at him and not the boy. “ Listen boy, he doesn’t have a reason to suspect that you’re a thief don’t give him one.” The beast warned him narrowing his eyes on Eillaf. The boys mind was on other things however he was coherent enough to understand some one was threatening his life. He raised his hands in a gesture of innocence, stepping out into the clearing so he could get a better look at the man that was aiming at him. “No!” Eillaf answered. Afterwards his body coughed up some water still hiding in his longs. He stared at the man. He didn’t look like the one from the fog. “Do you mean the wagon?” he asked, was this the man that destroyed the area he pilfered earlier?

Mirror Gardens 03-17-2011 02:21 PM

TWILIGHT
“I see...So you have no clue as to what it was that you were escorting? And I hope the price was at least worth almost getting killed for.” It seemed a silly idea to Twilight, traveling with objects or people of unknown origin, no matter the amount paid. She had always been a bit paranoid about jobs requiring secrecy…secrets usually meant trouble. Not the normal get into battle trouble, but irritating political or worse mystical trouble.
As they walked she listened to the woods. As a wood-elf she still felt strongly connected to the trees and wildlife, and the quietness was starting to discomfort her. It made her all the more determined to find out what the orb thing was ahead of them and even more eager to be rid of it.

Funkduder 03-18-2011 02:02 AM

Tuage
Tuage looked confused at the elf-like man.
So he wasn't with the bandits? But if that's true then who is he? was he attacked by another group?
Tuage took the man to be the thievish type, but what bothered him more was the undeniable presence that stood near the traveler. He couldn't see it, but the feeling was there. It was familiar to him, but not in the way it appeared to him now. It was darker. It was more comforting.
Tuage checked his knife before lowering his bow.
"It seems that I am mistaken. You’re obviously not with the men who attacked me, but if that is true, then who are you? How did you end up in the river? Speak quickly; this man's life might depend on it." Tuage motioned to the man while saying this, testing the man's character.

Poggio 03-18-2011 06:58 AM

Eillaf

Eillaf suppressed a laugh. What he was about to say to the man seemed utterly ridiculous had it not actually happened. He cleared his throat, which hurt his side a little. “I was attacked by a fog, and voice. He asked me to join him and when I didn’t answer he kicked my butt with a purple ray, and… I woke up in the stream. That’s quick version.” His beast looked at him chidingly. Eillaf, the man said quickly not dim whittled. The beast walked up to the man circling around him before wondering off to inspect the man that was lying on the ground. He sniffed him. Eillaf didn’t bother introducing himself. Trust was a two way street, and Eillaf rarely trusted anything that lived and pointed weapons at him. He slowly dropped his arms down to his side. A little twinge of regret struck Eillafs heart. Perhaps he should have taken the mysterious mans offer, then he could have just zapped the man with a strange purple beam, looted and carried on as if nothing was wrong. He felt that this interrogation had to end now. Clearly Aurelian was not afraid of this man. So he felt he had no reason to be either. “Look if you could point me to the nearest town or were I can get some herbs I’ll be out of your hair and you can continue fishing corpses out of the river. “ He was sure there would be more. The mysterious fog didn’t seem too happy that Eillaf could not answer his question right away. A question he wasn’t to sure he wanted to answer. He finally dropped his hands to his side. Making a gesture that a master would to his dog. Aurelian came bounding back to his side. “Sorry to bother you but unless you have something for a bruise I need to get to the nearest town”.

Funkduder 03-18-2011 04:56 PM

Tauge

If I hadn't heard a more ridiculous story, I ought to-
Tauge cut off his thoughts there as the traveler continued. It would seem less suspicious if he made up a story, but for that reason, Tuage couldn't suspect him of lying.
There's something missing though. I still can't get myself to trust this guy. What's he hiding?
In any case, Tauge knew that his story doesn't help him treat the half-dragon in any way, shape, or form. He wasn't being sarcastic; Tauge at least knew that, but how in the world a purple ray would cause that sort of damage was unknown.
I'll just treat the half-dragon as best as I can, and ask him what happened, since this traveler wouldn't be of much use now.
"I wouldn't know of a nearest town because I'm only traveling... like you, I suppose," Tauge said, gesturing towards his 'camp'. In truth, it was really only his pack, and the Dragon-man on his back.
"There's a couple of Aloe plants a quarter-mile down stream. They're good for healing burns and the such, but other than that, there's not much else."
I would've offered the Kings-foil if not for his secrecy. Besides, I still need it for the half-dragon.
"Good luck on your travels," Tauge concluded, as he moved back towards the Nameless half-dragon. Checking his temperature, it seemed to have normalized to a fair amount. The poultice was still inside his black lab-coat that he placed over his patient. The Heridon checked the man's eyes, as a check up for comatose, and found something extremely interesting to him: The half-dragon had no pupils. His eyes were completely black.

Tarrek 03-27-2011 01:57 PM

Tarrek
"Secrecy is usually a part of the bigger jobs."
That's why most people who jumped into the mercenary business didn't last long. Of course Tarrek wasn't just another guy. It took some cleverness to stay alive. You had to know instinctively just how much to trust someone. Even then, it could lead you into trouble.
"Lets just say the money was enough." He said.
They had been walking for most of the day, and finally the sun started to drop. About a mile ahead, the peaks of buildings began to appear.
"There is the next town." Tarrek said as he moved off the road and began walking to a nearby wood.
"We need to stop for the night. I have a feeling we are going to want the sun on us when we walk in."

Sylvia
Hearing the rustle of leaves and the crunch of twigs under some kind animal's feet, Sylvia bolted upright. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness she saw a startled rabbit scuttling off into the distance. She breathed a sigh of relief, it could have been something a lot more dangerous.
With that worry past her, Slylvia took some time to glance around.
Where am I? What happened?
She didn't know what it was but her head was groggy and she knew that it was a dangerous state to be in. As she swigged some water from her flask, the memories came flooding back to her.
Two men in black, both strong. She had no idea who they were or what they wanted, they just attacked her without warning and she had barely enough strength to put up a fight.
The fight had been in Amalaorandan, though...where was she?
Looking around she saw that she was deep in a forest, but it certainly was not the forest near Amalaorandan, it was way too dark for that.
She must be near Halfrand.
Terror gripped her, as she knew she had many enemies near the area. She had to get out of there fast and with her horse missing, she had to run on foot.
After picking up her satchel, she booked it out of there, not even noticing the strange violet light off in the distance.

An Anomaly

Tuage Heridon/Emanon Nameless

Light hit the black pupils of the creature disguised as Rhys, hurting him, but causing Tuage to look into the eyes of fear, entering a dark trance: an entrance into the void of what is not known to Tuage Heridon.

"Where am I?"
Screams entered into the background from every direction. Everywhere he looked, Tuage saw the same scenes over and over again: a burning house belonging to his name, a burning family belonging to his heart, and a burning scar belong to his skin. Judgment came and took him away as the gavel finally was slammed unto the its base. Taken in chains Tauge was burned. He felt the pain on his skin and his soul and his heart as the prosecutors pressed the metal unto his skin again and again.
Prosecuted for a crime he had not committed, Tuage was left for dead. To anyone who had seen him in the cave of the banned, he was meat for the worms.
But Tuage escaped, traversing a lonely life as village after village rejected him and ostracized him for his very existence. It was a icy feeling...that burned.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, the boggart could take no more. Shaking before Tuage in his unconscious dream, the shapeless being yielded before the elf.
"Who are you?" said the thing, its voice arriving like an endless echo.
"I am Tuage, banished elf of Nath' Karond Harath." the Heridon emmited an aura that the boggart had never experienced before. It was cold, colder than he had ever been herself. Despite the emotions gained from Lady Arianna de Le Fey, a primal yearning came upon the Boggart Anomaly.
"I want to be him. I must!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Snapping out of the trance, Tuage looked at the sun, which had moved a hand's width from where it was before, but the being before him was no longer scaly, nor familiar in any way with the halfling that was his patient. It was him.

Dem 04-04-2011 11:48 PM

Sylvia
Sylvia didn't know how long she had been running, but she knew that she must be far away from the threat of her enemies that were situated in and around Halfrand.
She ran until her chest and sides ached and her legs felt like they could no longer take another step. She collapsed to the soft dirt of a forest that was unknown to her. She coughed and crimson splattered the ground around her.
I need a doctor. No... that's too dangerous, who knows where my enemies could be. Sylvia thought. I was too weak then, I should have been more careful. I still need to be careful now... even away from Halfran there are people who know of me and who would kill to get the reward that goes along with my capture.
Sylvia took her shaking hands and felt along the lining of her satchel to where a vial was stitched up and hidden away. With trembling fingers she tore at the seams at pulled out the vial. As she downed the contents, hoping that it would heal her, she looked up at the sky.
That's strange... she thought. That light certainly wasn't there before.
Off in the distance, low in the sky was a pulsing orb of violet light. It scared and excited Sylvia as she had never seen anything like it before.
Feeling her strength flooding back to her as the potion from her vial took effect, Sylvia stood up and wandered off in search of a familiar face and along with that, she hoped, some answers to the many questions that were now floating in her head.

Dem 05-19-2011 06:20 PM

((Any plans on continuing this at all?))

Tarrek 05-20-2011 06:44 PM

((I had to take a bit of a break from the computer))
Rhys
Rhys stopped at the wall that surrounded the town. All around the city it was peaceful without a single sign of movement to or from. He could hear the sounds of orders being shouted in a gutteral language he didn't understand, but obviously the voice wasn't from a normal citizen of the plane. The sounds of marching also beat against the walls.
Guess I should take some caution in looking around. He thought to himself.
He took a step back and began waving his hands around himself. Voilet energy began misting from his outstretched hands. He stopped with a start.
Odd. An invisibility spell shouldn't have a colored aura to it. Maybe it's my proximity to whatever is putting off the light inside the city.
He began casting the spell again ignoring the violet light as it settled over his body. Slowely he began to dissapear from vision until he was gone entirly.
At least the spell still works.
Rhys than made his way to the front gate into the city.
