Question about forum games

Will it be alright to hold Gambling thread? Not mean to advertise or anything but just as an example, Gaia has a forum (and a tool) or gamble and chance games. Will it be alright to post a Gamble/Chance thread in the "Forum Games" sub-forum with an alternate/off site dice or random number generator?

Coda 04-03-2011 10:53 PM

My main worry there would be cheating, but the rules as written don't prohibit such a game. Assuming you don't play with runes I can't see why there would be a problem, but I'll let some other staff members weigh in.

Toriki 04-03-2011 10:54 PM

Coda, are you a stalker? You always seems to be the first to reply on anything and everything. :D

And thanks. I'll wait until it is confirmed. But if possible, will the idea of having a built-in Lotto feature on Trisphee be consider?

Demonskid 04-03-2011 10:59 PM

I don't see anything bad other then the cheating thing..

maybe one day we can have our own dice and random generator to prevent that :3

Coda 04-03-2011 11:00 PM

Can't say one way or the other right now; we don't have any plans in that direction yet.

Toriki 04-03-2011 11:00 PM

Hmm... *think think*

Demonskid 04-03-2011 11:00 PM

xD like I said, one day <3 and maybe x'D

Toriki 04-03-2011 11:02 PM

Tori will cling to the "one day" chance. XD

Demonskid 04-03-2011 11:04 PM

x'D don't cling to it... cause its nothing but a dream right now.

Toriki 04-03-2011 11:19 PM

...*sniffle*...

Sei 04-03-2011 11:22 PM

The only problem I see is that it's so easy to cheat and win. x_x

Anyone can keep clicking a RNG again and again until they get the desired results and then post it on the forums. It is essentially an easy way to get scammed, especially when we talk about runes. I'm with Coda right now: for aurum, I'm uneasy, but okay; for runes, I would say not.

If it were me, I would want to wait until a cheat-proof feature was built into Trisphee (on some day far away).

Toriki 04-03-2011 11:24 PM

Alright. I understand.

Coda 04-03-2011 11:25 PM

No, I mean, runes are close enough to real money (despite the verbiage of the ToS) that I get really hesitant about whether or not our host would allow it. I'd have to do some research.

Sei 04-03-2011 11:27 PM

Please do, Coda. I bet that runes are close enough to real money that it would not be allowed. Only time and research will tell for sure.

Uke 04-04-2011 12:10 AM

Perhaps one way to prevent cheating would be to live-stream the random number generation. You can view old live streams, so anyone could go look and see the proof right there.

Panda 04-04-2011 12:11 AM

You can't really cheat if you have a couple staff involve as the judge or someone to roll the dice at the end and pick the winners. :] If you know what I mean. *nod nod* *blink blink*

Ashy 04-04-2011 01:10 AM

it would work better as a lotto system where the thread host uses a random number generator to pick the numbers then posts a screenshot of the number i think

Uke 04-04-2011 02:02 AM

With a screen shot you can re-roll and then screen shot it, though. If you live stream it, you record yourself only rolling one time, to ensure no cheating.

Toriki 04-04-2011 08:16 AM

I was thinking maybe I could borrow Gaia's. As in, I'll make a thread in Chatter Box, and then have the users here to post and roll there instead. But I do not know if it count as "Off Site".

Kaguya 04-04-2011 10:42 AM

I agree, there is the fact that there could be cheating involved. I dont personally like the idea of runes being involved in it, as Sei stated, They are as close to real money as it gets.

Panda, your idea is plausable, unfortunatly, we are to under-staffed as it is and as Coda has stated in his open letter, we are further behind than we would like to be, so we wouldn't have the time to help with this... at this point in time. Again, however, we would still see people trying to cheat.

Uke's suggestion is the most sound one in my opinion.

Toriki, I would say that counts off site, but could also be classed as advertisement, as people would have to join Gaia, if they hadn't already to use the die system there.
