Choose your poison: A Media discussion thread! Open!
Hello every one! I know a lot of people on this site do art (you can't deny it- I know who you are! XD) I guess I kinda wanted to create this thread where people can talk about the various ways they create art. Not all of us are actually digital artist on this site. I myself prefer the long drawn-out process of inking an image and then maybe watercoloring it. This thread's purpose is for us all to come together and share tips and techniques to help each other grow. |
Rules! 1. Well I’m sure that the super-mod of this section will come up with rules later… In my thread we follow the TOS. It’s really that simple. We also follow the golden rule: “Treat others how you would want to be treated.” 2. There’s a difference between flaming and a critique. Only crit those that ask for help. 3. Learn, share, laugh, and love people. |
Techniques and helpful links for learning: Here is where I will post a mini version of an artist hospital. If some one really needs help with a subject this post will try to keep up with finding resources. |
HUZZAH! -flies in on a rocket of wacom and marks this place as 'Swell'-
|
-Gets out her inking brush- I don thee Lady Micron! Hail to the screen printer!
So man I have things to tell you and show you that are all art related and traditional art related. Also what kind of stuff should I find for the help section? |
Eehee! Sounds awesome indeed!
And hmm... tutorials are always good, both image and video. Or depending what the others might need, having actual example artists would be good as well. |
Ah crap, it had me double-post. DX
|
AH POOP. I wanted to post first! T_T |
Hmm I wonder if others are visual learners because I have a plethora of speed paints. I guess I need to ask a mod actually about posting links. I'm not sure if linking to DA or anything outside of imagery is considered advertising. If they need to be in spoilers or what.
So this is random but you know Brittany Brown, we share a studio space and I kinda want to do art liker hers. She uses this really awesome ink. It reminds me of this guy I love on DA. |
Is it acrylic ink? And she's gotten way better as well. I'm heartbroken I didn't remain. TT^TT
I would've put up with Economos for another year if necessary... gaaah! |
Dude once you became junior life was so easy and now Jose is changing the department so its even easier.
Every one is pretty much amazing so yeah you should have stayed. Lucy you and I could have put the tri-force on our door. Three L's and its a mixture xD I've spied her desk when she works. She uses this water color concentrate |
I like watercolor painting, and honestly, I missed doing some painting...D: |
-Huggles Lauv- You should start it up again! XD I like a lot of your drawings and stuff. Especially your photos.
|
My preference is probably Digital Art, though I often sketch with a pencil. I still use my crayons and colored pencils though... and there is always an air about Traditional Art that I will always respect.
...This also made me want to sketch. |
Lol I wonder if I can start a draw the avatar above you thread since this site doesnt have one . I'd like to see some of your arts XD.
|
Oh my gosh! That would be a wonderful idea, I love those kinds of threads. If only my computer was fixed, I'd draw like no tomorrow!
If it's okay, I'd like to help with the set-up though, if you might need it. I'm a neat thread maker (see freebie thread on sig) and I'm pretty good at summarizing conditions and things. (And you can see my art there! =D) I am however, unable to participate until my computer is fixed, but I still want to help. XD |
Lol I can make let you make the thread. and I use a scanner. I don't even own a computer. xD.
And I love those types of threads though we'd have to figure out a way so that no one is drawing the same person unless they want to. |
But but it was not my idea! You should make it. D:
Perhaps we can tell people to have a code-thingy, like, "*Looks up*" and then s/he'll have to draw him/her. This will allow people to chat and if it's active enough, the result will be random. Although people might just stay there to leech off art... ;_; I often see people add 'skip' to their posts, but there are always loop holes. |
Hmm I dunno how angry would a person get if they didn't get art?
I mean I think as long as they pm'ed the person and said they couldn't do it then there should be no hard feelings. |
i do art digitally and then I just started using markers again XD Its fun to fool around with them XP
|
Are you talking about your chibis?
|
I'm a traditional art buff, in part because I've never really learned fancy techniques with illustrating or printing and I just don't have the coordination with a mouse or digital pen that I do with brush or pencil.
I experiment with material though for the most part I work with water colour paints and occasionally pencil drawing. |
in high school i took an oil painting class that i thoroughly enjoyed. now, though, i do traditional work with colored pencil, mostly. and pixel art. i dabble from time to time with photoshop or markers.
|
I wish my computer actually ran photoshop. My old one had trouble with photoshop five. Haven't tried any on this computer though but I'm still a titch concerned. On my old comp the program would freeze on me if I moved the mouse too fast, or if I dare click on one thing before the previous click had processed!
I'm working with pencil crayons more now, too, and I find I like it. They're one of those things where you can keep going and going and not seem to be making a heck of a lot of difference. Eventually one gets there though. |
XD first welcome to trisphee and second 030 I kinda want to see both of you guys art. Do you have a DA or a place I can see them?
Man oil painting. My freshman teacher sucked the life out of oil paints for me. Do you scratch the crayons off when you make a bunch of layers? |
My deviant art gallery is here. It's mostly writing, but some of my paintings are there. It's mostly watercolour except for my avatar which is acrylic and Sharpie pen (yay Sharpies!). The "Miscellanous Amusements" folder has some colour work I did in pencil crayon with drawings by other artists. There's pencil stuff in my scraps.
EDIT: oops. I linked it right to my paintings folder. Oh well. Makes it easier for you then. ;) |
I use colored pencil for my art. I've never actually seen pencil crayons before... I think. What do they look like?
|
For my art, I usually draw it on paper then scan it to color it on the computer. Its very hard for me to pick a style whether digital or traditional
|
Oh, pencil crayon is essentially a coloured pencil. I've heard the names used interchangably. I think "pencil crayon" get useed because wax is put in to hold the colour, like with crayons. The better quality pencil crayons, the less wax. I love and hate pencil crayons. They take forever to work with since the colouring tip is quite fine and one needs to be carefull with pressure or there will be a garish line on occasion that won't go away. They can also only be layerd so much before the paper wont take any more colour.
My favourite ones are my Prismacolour Scholars but the case is terrible and I must have gotten a bad batch or dropped them too many times because the wood splits when I sharpen them, they break like crazy so I'm often colouring with just the broken nub between my fingers, but the colours are great and they blend really well. The other ones I use for travel are my Staedtler guys, which work well enough and I like the brand for other things. |
I did a full body traditionally too :D It was fun but super time consuming!
|
XD I can't believe you guys are talking about crayons. Speaking of Crayons. This site that I frequently go to is having a contest, were you draw a design for a 18 inch napkin with Crayons only XD. I think its time to break out the crayolas if any one is interested I can post the link.
|
I like watercolor painting, but honestly, i only draw CG art T_T
|
My poison is drawing old school then scan onto the computer then I color it and do the line work on paint tool SAI.
I have a hard time making it look good |
