Zac sighed looking at the clock. "Why does reading have to be so boring?" He asked himself. He stood up and walked to the window. "You can go outside you know." He said to himself. "Ya I know I can but I don't like to feed during the day." Zac said keeping his conversation with himself going. "Maybe a nice walk would do you good." He said to himself again. "I think you are right." He said with a smile. Zac went out the door, and started walking down the sidewalk. He stopped passing by a park. "Aww humans are so cute at that age, but they are so dreadful when they grow up." He said quietly to himself with a shiver. He turned and went back on his walk. He took in a deep breath, and sighed contently.

Jasmine stared infront of her at the white substance that now graced the sidewalk. Letting out relieved breath she laughed a quick amused sounding laugh. It had been a close call. Had she been even the slightest bit quicker in her walk then she would have been standing there precisely at the moment the bird decided to fly by and leave it's 'gift.' Luck seemed to be on her side today.
Picking up her pace she moved along, musing about he little stroke of luck. Perhaps it was a good omen? She grinned, pleased at the possibility. She glanced over, gazing at the park. The children looked so happy that she was almost tempted to go and play on the playground herself. Everyone needed to release their inner child, didn't they? |
"I can't believe this! I'm soo dead!" Kali hurried along the sidwalk dodging around the people that blocked her way. "I'm sorry! Please forgive me!" She shouted as she hurried by. "I can't believe I'm sooo late!" Suddenly, her foot found a small hole in the side walk, causing her to stumble forward. "Crap!"
She fell forward, crashing into a random person, sending them both to the ground. "Oh my gosh! I'm sssoooo sorry Miss! Are..are you alright?" She hurriedly stood, helping the darkhaired girl up, "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! I'm so so so so sorry!" |
Jasmine hit the ground with a thump. She felt the concrete beneath her, as well as the weight of another person on top of her. The girl as saying something, apologizing, Jaz thought. Before she could regain composure she felt hands help her up and she complied without a thought. Finally she really looked at the girl, taking in her expression, and laughed.
"I'm fine." She assured the frantic girl with a wave of her hand as she did a self examination. Her hip felt a little sore, and her pants we a little marked up, but since neither of these thing particularly bothered her she simply smiled at the other girl. "Are you okay?" |
Zac heard a commotion a few feet away from him. He ran over to help. "Are you two ok?" He asked in a sweet manor. He looked at the blonde haired girl. "Oh dear your shin is bleeding." He said pointing to her shin. "Let me help you with that. He said grabbing a hankie out of his pocket. He knelt down and tied it around her shin. "There that should be better." He said with a sweet smile as he stood up.

Kali nodded, straightening her skirt, "Yeah..I'm okay.." She winced, looking to her leg, "Oh no! I guess I scrapped my knee. I'll ha--" She jumped as the man came over, "Uh..yeah..I'm okay..just a scuff." Her face reddened slightly as he tied the cloth around her shin. She quickly hid her face behind her hair, cursing her pal skin. It seemed she was always red in the cheeks. "Thank you.."
She looked at her watch, "Oh no! I'm never going to make it! I'm sorry, I have to go! I'm going to be late for work!" She hurried past them waving, "Again, I'm so sorry!" |
Jasmine simply blinked as the scene played out before her. When the girl ran off she laughed again. She certainly was laughing quite a lot today. She turned and looked at the man the stood beside her. "Well, that was certainly unexpected." She said simply, referring to the sudden collision of herself and the other girl. "Thanks for helping her. I'm a bit of a ditz when it comes to those things, so I probably wouldn't have been any help." She said with a smile.

Zac laughed and smiled. "Its ok, I don't mind helping out when its needed." He said still smiling. "Excuse me I should introduce myself. I am Zachary Gray, but you can call me Zac." He said extending his hand. "Um I know we just met but could I buy you a cup of coffee, so you don't get ran into again." He said with a slight chuckle.

Jasmine's mouth formed a surprised 'o' shape at Zac's offer. She had never been invited out to coffee by an almost complete stranger. She grinned, wasn't life full of splendid surprises?
"Oh, sure." She extended her hand taking his and shaking it. "I'm Jasmine Eliot. Call me Jaz if you like. Or Jasmine. I don't care either way." She said with a grin. Jaz was nickname that had been attached her years ago and she thought it a nice thing, but still liked her full name also. |
"Hmm Jasmine I haven't heard someone with that name in ages." He said pondering. He gently grabbed her arm. "Let's go I know the perfect little place." He said with a smile. "She's not to bad for a human." He thought to himself. "It is a beautiful day out don't you think?" He asked looking up at the sky. He started to hum to himself.

Kali stormed into the small cafe, hurrying to the back, "Yeah I know! I had an accident and fell. I'll stay late tonight." She grabbed her apron from the wall She quickly tied the string around her waist then headed back out to the store front, getting customers' orders and bringing them their food and/or drink.
After awhile, she hid int he back of the kitchen, sitting on a stool in the corner. She ran her fingers through her hair, taking a long drink from her water, "Busy today.." With a sigh, she got up as she heard her boss storming by, "Yeah I'm on my way out! I was getting some water." She grumbled slightly, heading back out and doing her job. |
"Yeah, I like it. My parents had a thing for herbs. I have a sister named Rosemary and a brother named Basil." Jasmine said, following along with the pleasant man. He seemed very nice, though something about him was different. She just couldn't put her finger on it.

"My family was named after their favorite authors. My youngest brother was William, and my other brother was Nathaniel." Zac sighed. "I miss them." He said with a frown. He went back to humming to get his mind off of his brothers. "Here we are." Zac said stopping in front of a cute little cafe. He opened the door and motioned her in.

Hearing the tell tale bell, Kali looked up and jumped, "Ah! You two! Hello! Welcome, please have a seat. Can I get you anything to start?" She led them to a table, motioning for them to sit. She looked to the girl, bowing slightly, "I'm so very sorry about earlier. My boss can be a bit of a...hard ass" She smiled, holding her note pad and pen, "You're sure you're okay?"
She jumped again, "Ah, thank you again for the handkerchief. I'm going to wash it tonight. If you want it back, I can give it to you if you stop by anytime after 5pm. I'll be here till close." |
Jasmine's brow furrowed slightly when he mentioned his brothers. Did they live far away? Were they dead? She wanted to ask, but felt it might be rude. He had seemed a bit sad when he had mentioned them. Perhaps she would ask later, at a more appropriate moment.
With a smile she entered. This man was such a gentleman, a rarity in this area. "Thank you." She told him with a brilliant smile. Then suddenly they were seated by the girl they had met earlier. "Oh! Hello, I'm perfectly fine, not a scratch on me." She said proudly. "I've been having a rather lucky day." She said remembering the bird poop incident, though she was sure these two might look at her funny if said anything about. Most people didn't contemplate bird poop that often. |
"Your welcome." Zac said with a smile. He was a little surprised when the girl that he helped worked at the cafe. "Your welcome, and you can keep it I have plenty more at home. Oh by the way my name is Zachary Gray but you can call me Zac." He said with a smile as he put out his hand. "But if you want to pay me back come to my party I'm having tonight. Its nothing big but it should be fun." Zac said grabbing a card out of his pocket and handing it to her. "Your invited as well Jasmine." He said handing her a card as well. "As to what I would like, umm a coffee black, and a strawberry tart." He said with a smile. "You can get whatever you want I'm buying." He said looking at Jasmine.

Jasmine grinned. "I'm always game for a good party." She said, excitement shining in her eyes. It had been a while since she had been to a good party. "I'll be there." She promised. Then she smiled and turned to the girl. "Hmmm, I'd like a cup of cocoa and... slice of lemon pie please." She said politely.

Kali nodded, quickly jotting their orders before she forgot, "Alright, I'll bring them out shortly. I would love to go, but I can't. I have to stay late tonight since I was late getting her. Ah, oh I need to go. I'll be back shortly with your stuff." With that, she skittered off to the other side, talking with the customers about their food and handing them their check before heading over to the counter to take care of getting the cocoa and coffee. She shouted to one of the girls by the baked goods about the tart and pie slice that she needed.

"Ah well when you have a second can you have your boss come over to talk to me I wanna tell him what a good job you are doing." Zac said with a smirk. "I will tell him what's what." He thought to himself trying not to laugh evilly. "Well, she is very jittery isn't she?" Zac asked looking at Jasmine. He sighed, "Oh the party is casual, so you don't have to dress up, and it lasts until the last person leaves." Zac said starting to hum again. He stopped and looked at Jasmine, "Sorry I just start humming randomly." He said with a nervous chuckle. The truth is that he hums a lot when he has the need for blood.

"She is, isn't she? But it's kind of endearing." Jasmine said pleasantly. "Perhaps I should take a page from her book. People often tell me I'm too mellow." She shrugged. Mellow wasn't the word she would use to describe herself. She was simply... optimistic, and completely oblivious at the same time.
"Oh it's perfectly fine. In fact I find the tune pretty. What is it from?" She asked curiously. Thinking of how she might play it on her violin when she got home. |
After a few more minutes she came over with a tray holding the drinks and the pie slices. She set each down then held the tray in her two hands in front of her, "Oh no, he would have my head if you asked if I could leave. If I don't get out too late, I'd happily drop by though." She smiled a bit, quickly moving to the table next to them as they asked for their check.

"It's actually a very old lullaby, my grandmother used to sing it to me. It's called Long, Long Ago." He said with a sigh. He looked at the girl. "I wasn't gonna ask him, I simply wanted to give you a good performance." He said folding his hands in front of him. "I do hope you will be able to." He said with a sweet smile as she walked away. "My grandmother was a wonderful person, so very, very sweet." He said pondering. He licked his finger and started to rub it on the rim of the cup, doing something in the process. After a few seconds he stopped and picked up the cup and took a sip. "That should keep people away from here." He thought to himself. He put a feeling around the building to make humans not wanting to come in.

Jasmine smiled fondly. The older the song the better it was, she thought. "You sound very fond of her." She noted and then took a sip of her cocoa. It was delicious. "Mmhmm, this is good." She said cheerily. She noted the strange thing he did with the cup. People had such odd habits. She put the cup down and then brushed some of her hair over her shoulder so she could lean over and take a bite of her pie without getting her hair in it. It tasted glorious and she made a sound of appreciation. A few strands of hair rebelled from her placement and came back over her should, lying on her neck. "This place is wonderful!"

"Ya I miss her." Zac said with a slight frown. "Anyway." Zac said with a smile, "It is that's why this is my favorite cafe." He said with a wink. He grabbed his fork and knife and cut a piece of the tart. He put it in his mouth and smiled. "I like little cafe's they always have the better food and drinks." He said taking another sip. He put the cup back down and looked at Jasmine. "You look like an interesting person." Zac said trying to get the attention off of him.

Jasmine giggle slightly, which was very out of character. She did not giggle. She laughed, snickered, and sometimes even snorted, but never did she giggle. She had always found the action far to girlie. "That depends of what you think is interesting." She, her eyes narrowing playfully and she tilted her head to the side slightly.
She had been a very interesting person once. And while she still mostly was, she had become much more responsible and controlled. In high school she had been a bit of a wild child to say the least. Parties every night, making out with a new boy almost every day. She smiled mysteriously. Part of her missed those days. Now, though only a year out of high school she wasn't quite that wild. "I teach children to play the violin." She thinking of something besides her past that might interest him. |
"I find a lot of things interesting." He said as he smiled playfully. "Ah the violin is a very beautiful instrument, next to the piano that is." He said imagining his piano. "Maybe you can come over early and I can play Long, Long Ago for you." He said starting to hum again. He shook his head. "Sorry again." He said cutting another piece of tart.

After awhile, Kali had come back, "Would you guys like anything else? A refill perhaps?" She frowned a bit, seeing the two talking so..casually. All the good, happy things always happened to everyone around her, but not herself. A dismal life was in her future.

Jasmine grinned. "That would be nice. If I have the time, perhaps I will." She said cheerily. It would e nice to hear, and possible learn the song. She wondered what it would sound like on the piano. "No, no, no, it's pretty. I like to hear it." She assured him.
Jasmine glanced at her finished cocoa and mostly done pie. She would have like to have more cocoa, but she knew she couldn't stay much longer. "Oh, no thank you. It was delicious though. Actually..." She turned to look at Zac. "I have to get going. I have a class to teach, but I'll see you at your party." She told him, standing. |
"Ok I will see your later." He said with a wave. "I like making new friends so why don't you join me, I will take care of your boss." He said motioning her to the chair. "Trust me." He said with a smile on his face. "Plus you are in need of a break." He said trying to reassure her.

Kali shook her head, a worried look came over her face, "Oh no no no, I wouldn't dare. My boss would fire me. I'm sorry but I can't." She looked over hearing someone shout for her. She bit her lip, looking back to Zac, "I'll try to stop by your party though." She smiled then skittered off.

Jasmine walked out the door and began on her way to her class. The kid were learning a new piece today, and she was excited. Their little faces scrunched in concentration always amused her. As she walked she began humming the tun Zac had hummed. She laughed, that was going to be in her head for a while. When she reached her work building she enter with a smile. Today was a good day.

"Don't worry you will." He said to himself as she walked away. Zac smiled as he drank the rest of his coffee. He put down the money for the bill. He stood up to find the woman. He saw her at the counter and walked up to her. He tapped her on the shoulder, "Here is your tip. I wanted to give it to you instead of leaving it on the table." He said handing her a hundred dollar bill. He leaned in. "Make sure you come to my party it will be fun, you will be out of here in plenty of time." He said with a smile as he went to the door.

Kali whirled around, feeling a tap. She took the tip, staring blankly at it for a moment. "Uh.." she trailed off, unsure of what to say. She knew she'd insult him if she tried to return the tip. With a sigh, she pocketed it and continued to work.

Having returned home from her class Jasmine decided to shower and then get ready for the party. Zac had said casual, but she still wanted to look her best. Once she finished with that she went to pick out an outfit. Something that said casual but crazy. She grinned with she found a pair of electric blue converse. After that she got some medium grey skinny jeans and a navy blue t-shirt with the logo of her favorite band on it. Putting it all on, she did her hair and make up. Looking herself over in the mirror she smiled. She was ready to go.

"Ok let's see, that's done. The caterers came, the blood is gone. The house is clean. Good I think everything is ready." He said checking things off on a clipboard. "Shit, what do you want cousin?" Zac asked turning around.
"Oh so that's how you talk to your family? I heard you were having a party and I thought I'd come." The man said with a sinister smile. "Oh no, do you remember the last party of mine you crashed?" Zac asked slightly irritated. "No I don't" He said with a smile while looking up. "I had to destroy the whole village, because you drained all of my party guest's of their blood." Zac said starting to yell. "Ohhh ya, that was a fun party." The man said remembering the whole event. "No I want you out now!" He said pointing to the door. "Fine your no fun anymore." The cousin said as he disappeared. "Damn it!" He yelled breaking the clipboard in half. "By the way that was over 100 years ago." The cousin said. "I'm not going to answer that." He said to himself. "I should warm up the piano." He said walking to the study. |
Jasmine stepped out into the night air, closing and locking her door behind her. She pulled out Zac's card, looking at the address. She knew where the place was so she went to her car, got in, and began her drive. She wondered if their would be alcohol at the party. She hoped not, otherwise she would have to avoid it. Under the influence of alcohol her crazy behavior sky rocketed from slightly insane and irrational to incredibly stupid and probably dangerous.
Pulling in to the driveway she sat in her car for a moment. She was going to the party of someone she barely knew. It was just like old times. Taking a deep breath, she exited the car, walked to the front door, and knocked. |
As he sat down at the piano he heard a knock at the door. "Well so much for that." He said as he stood up and walked over to the door. He opened the door and saw that it was Jasmine. "Hello Jasmine." He said with a smile as he waved her inside. "I was just getting ready to warm up the piano." He said as he put his hand on her back leading her into the study. "Have a seat and you will hear the most beautiful song in the world." He said with another smile. He sat down next to her and opened up the key-cover. Zac brushed his fingers over the keys letting his memories engulf him. He started playing the song, after a few seconds he started to sing along. When he got to the main part of the song he started to cry thinking of his grandmother. He finished the song. "I'm sorry." He said grabbing a hankie out of his pocket and drying his tears. "So what did you think?" He asked still crying a little bit.
