PlayStation Network

I'm sure by now those of you who have a PlayStation Network account heard of the recent hacking that happened. It's gotten people rather spooked lately because of the big email they sent out to cover their butts. I haven't been affected as of yet but I'm still kind of scared. xD; I'm almost positive that I didn't put my credit card information on my account because I haven't seen any suspicious charges yet. I do happen to know someone at my local GameStop named Paul who was a victim of the PSN hack-attack. He found a 300 dollar charge on his card from somewhere in Las Vegas. And just so you all realize this is serious is because I live in Ohio. I'm a little shocked that this all happened almost a week ago.

I wanted to ask your guys opinions on the whole situation. Are you as worried as me because we can't check if our card info is attached or not. Are you more worried than me or are you completely relaxed? How do you all feel about this? I want your opinions.

Glitch 04-29-2011 09:43 PM

Ya I've been antsy about it as well. So what if they didn't get the security codes? there's only so many possibilities. xp

I've been watching mine too. I hope the catch the guy/gal. :(

Chi 04-29-2011 10:36 PM

I heard the hacker group Anonymous is trying to take credit for it.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I mean they could look up our transaction logs if I'm not mistaken... I called my credit card provider and discussed decisions and the representative and I agreed that it was just best to watch my account and if nothing happens in like another week or whatever that I'm safe.

Glitch 04-29-2011 10:51 PM

I heard that they did the first one and then this second one wasn't them. Who knows though.

That's good advise :)

Chi 04-29-2011 10:57 PM

That's all I can really suggest. That it's best to monitor your card and if you really don't feel safe get a new one issued.
The other thing too is if this happens to enough people and they all band together, Sony could face a lawsuit. x_x;

Glitch 04-30-2011 02:36 AM

I think Sony already is. I heard something about it.

Today it was announced (not from sony) that the hackers are trying to sell 2.2 million credit cards.

Demonskid 04-30-2011 03:22 AM

O~O That worries me.. what if my debit card thing is in there ;-;

CupcakeDolly 04-30-2011 04:04 AM

Luckily I only ever used PSN cards for my PS3 purchases.

Even so, I was attacked - My iTunes Store account sent me an email a couple of nights ago with a receipt for a poker application and $20 worth of poker chips taken from my iTunes account balance. I didn't use my credit information on that either, but it was still annoying to see that I was $20 out on fake money. I contacted iTunes, and apparently they've been getting a lot of people with the same problem. Normally they don't issue refunds, but they seem to be doing so for everyone who mentions the PSN hack.

I went around the rest of that night changing passwords and deleting my credit information from sites where I had done any online shopping at all. What a fun-filled and nerve-wracking way to spend your time. =/

Chi 04-30-2011 06:40 PM

Oh jeeze, that's not good. :/

Wow, that freaking sucks Dolly. I just asked my friend Scott if he was hit because he bought a few PS1 games. And I told my sister to keep an eye out because her husband has a PS3. They think they're safe too but I don't know if he's bought anything or not.

I can't believe that this honestly happened. It's just... crazy. :/

CupcakeDolly 04-30-2011 11:32 PM

Well, the only real problem is if you have anything linked to the same email/username that you use for PSN. It seems like they got to me through my email and searched around until they found something that they could use. My password for PSN and iTunes were similar, so I would definitely recommend a strong password change for anything that might be linked to both your email and to any kind of money.

Chi 04-30-2011 11:42 PM

All my passwords are different so I should be okay. I changed my email password recently too. That is a good thing to do, to change your passwords around.

CupcakeDolly 04-30-2011 11:45 PM

Yup, you're supposed to change them every couple of months or so anyway. (they're so freakin' hard to remember, or I would...) I changed mine to be long-as-hell with a hodgepodge of capitals and numbers. I hate contacting customer support for anything, and am going to make sure I never have to again.

Chi 04-30-2011 11:51 PM

To be honest I have some of my passwords saved on paper and stuff in my house. Because sometimes muscle memory doesn't always work for me. xD; I'm alright at remembering most of my passwords it's just some that I can't.

CupcakeDolly 05-02-2011 01:21 AM

Well, fuck.
This video pretty much sums up the PSN hack.

Chi 05-03-2011 12:54 AM

Oh god, that is too funny. >>
I really hope this doesn't take forever to salvage and fix.
And I hope you guys get some kind of compensation. :/

CupcakeDolly 05-03-2011 01:34 AM

My boyfriend was saying that when it comes back online every PSN member is going to get a free month of Plus membership (which means free games, exclusive demos and trailers, etc.), free games and media depending on what region you're in, and a free month of Qriosity as compensation for the hack, which is almost worth it.

Dallas 05-03-2011 07:46 AM

Doesn't that just stinks. Why would people even that, I mean they will be caught. Lucky me, I ownly played online once, plus never put any "real", information I only used prepaid cards. Only thing that comes from this is that on easter I got a prepaid card so I could get Resident Evil. They have been down since. An update was out over the weekend, PD SN networks will be back online. As an I am sorry from them all PSN owners will receive a 1 month prenium plus membership.

Echo-chan713 05-03-2011 11:25 AM

I actually had it happen to me, but it got taken care of before the damage was made

Ginger 05-03-2011 03:19 PM

My boyfriend and everyone else here will be playing all the time as soon as the network is up again, much to my dismay lol.

Echo-chan713 05-03-2011 05:23 PM

I never played video games on my ps3, but I do want some games to entertain me. For now I only use my ps3 for Netflix

CupcakeDolly 05-03-2011 11:19 PM

Oh man, gaming platforms were evil for offering Netflix. I'm the couch queen of anime and Dr. Who now. Luckily it's back up now, even if PSN isn't.

Glitch 05-03-2011 11:39 PM

wooo dr who! ps3 netflix is the thing i miss the most. ;-;

CupcakeDolly 05-04-2011 12:24 AM

Netflix is working for us. =o Maybe try it out again?

Chi 05-04-2011 12:55 AM

Yeah, I just heard about that today, Dolly.
That's about the best they can do I guess. I just want to play Portal 2 with my friend.
I still haven't beaten it yet, don't ruin it for me. D:

Yeah, if I was going to buy stuff online I'd buy a card instead of giving them my credit card info, that's just a bad idea.

And I'm sorry to hear that Ginger. D:
I'm not a super PS3 person or anything but I do enjoy playing stuff online. ):

Glitch 05-04-2011 01:22 AM

Oh so that's back? We tried to watch it two days ago and it wouldn't let us.

Calendros 05-10-2011 06:22 PM

I just hope Sony hurries up and patches up the security holes and puts the network back up again. I miss playing all my PS3 games online. Castle Crashers is only so fun 1 player. Not to mention, it's been down for almost a whole month, I hope they give alot more than they were saying... My XBox Is looking pretty sweet right about now, I'll tell you.

Taiki 05-10-2011 07:04 PM

My brother plays Castle Crashers almost 24/7. xDDD

I want it to come up since they are giving everyone a free month of Playstation Plus. *o* I want free stuff~

Not sure if everyone is aware yet, but Sony started putting online services up over the weekend, some areas may still be down as they are doing it slowly in sections, but most of the states and Canada can now enjoy online multiplayer and most services excluding PlayStation Store which is expected to be up soon. They also announced some of the package they are offering to north americans on their site, with more info to come once the Store service comes back up.

I should be one of those whos back up but I just want my free package of stuff xD

Taiki 05-16-2011 07:05 PM

Same here. xD I rarely use the Network so I'm excited for free stuff. 8D

Illusion 05-16-2011 07:16 PM

Hopefully hey've teamed up with other companys so we can get any game for free under a certain price. (That way I can download Portal, or Final Fantasy 7,8, or 9.)

Glitch 05-17-2011 02:42 AM

i wan all the home stufff *grabby hands*

CupcakeDolly 05-17-2011 03:24 PM

I'm afraid to go back into home. I dropped most of my Christmas PSN money into it, hopefully all of my avatar's stuff survived.

Tarrek 05-20-2011 04:59 PM

It's up by now, so this joke is a little late, but...
Playstation Network? Don't you mean Playstation NOTwork!

Serra Britt 05-20-2011 06:55 PM

I never really signed up for it before but now I want to if only for the free game downloads they are offering >>

Jurinjo 05-20-2011 08:40 PM

heh yeah, glad I never bought anything on my dad's as tempting as it was. though I should probably mention this stuff to him. Some free demo were downloaded into his machine.

As for me I'm a little apprehensive to buy some PS1 games on the network now. Last thing I want is a problem with my bank account.

Oh and I bought a PS3 yesterday, or two days ago, at gamestop. They offered a $100 off coupon for random customers (not owning a ps3) 8D For which I was excited about. Had a mini anxiety attack xD;

Illusion 05-20-2011 09:06 PM

I can't wait until PS Store is back up <3
The games they are offering for free.
Littlebigplanet
Infamous
Ratchet and Clank: A Quest for Booty
Dead Nation
Burnout With Map Expansion pack.

I already own Littlebigplanet and Ratchet and Clank, so I guess I'm downloading Infamous and Dead Nation <3

Samuel 05-20-2011 10:12 PM

I think we should all be worried about this hacking going on with the PS3 system network, we really dont even know what info these hackers could get. and thats pretty scary.

Chi 05-27-2011 01:07 AM

Well the PSN already announced what the hackers could have taken and what they had access to.
And every one now knows that it's up again for the most part.

I hope it's not all that, Illusion.
I hope they have more. D:

Serra Britt 06-03-2011 12:28 AM

Oi. The PSN store is back and I'm drooling over stuff already :P

-sigh-
