Summer of the Cicada.

Every 13 years. Every. 13. Years.

Where has my childhood gone?
I remember catching them, playing with them, squishing them...now?
I'm too terrified to leave my house at night because I can hear them everywhere.

Somewhere in this 13 years, I developed an irrational fear of insects.
Cicadas?
Seems they're no exception.

I hate them.
They're beautiful.
But I hate them.

Discuss: Cicadas.
Topic: Cicadas.
How I feel: I want to cry.
How you feel: Blaine, you're one sexy studbeast.
How I respond: O bby, you're so sweet~ ;9
How you respond: ;D

Question!
I wonder why the Cicadas cry?

Ashurato 05-11-2011 02:01 AM

Urggh... those freaking loud insects!
I've had many a sleepless night thanks to those little buggers!

Blaine, you're one sexy studbeast.

Reyoki 05-11-2011 11:04 AM

Ugh, there're loads of cicadas around where I live. Most people don't know what they are, though. Whenever I hear them and go "Ugh, the cicadas are out again" people say things like "Oh, is that what's making that noise?" and then sometimes they ask what they look like.

I've learned to live with them. I have an intense urge to shoot them when they wake me up in the mornings, though. They're worse than my alarm clock!

Blaine 05-11-2011 04:02 PM

Ashur: O bby, you're so sweet~ ;9

BUT YES, they're inexorably loud. It's riduculous. T:
And they keep landing on me.
If they keep it up, I will kill them all with my rage.

Demonskid 05-11-2011 04:30 PM

I never seen them D8

We get Locusts every 7 years I think and this year they are back, I heard them x3 But I never seen cicada =(

Reyoki 05-11-2011 04:48 PM

I live smack dab in the middle of Florida. We have just about everything here... and we have it pretty much all the time.

Blaine 05-11-2011 11:44 PM

DK, this is a nasty bum cicada(s).

I live in TN, Reyoki, and we've had tornados, floods, heavy snow, just about everything, too. AND NOW THESE BUGGERS.

Ashurato 05-11-2011 11:52 PM

Your current avi ROCKS, Blaine.
Ehrm... that's it. *scuttles off*

Blaine 05-12-2011 12:15 AM

THANK YOU. I'm actually really into it. e me
I wanna draw iiitt. Or get arts of it. T:

AND OH RIGHT, cicadas. They're way too noisy.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 12:21 AM

I take it your an Alabaman.

Blaine 05-12-2011 12:34 AM

Me? Nope.
Tennessean.
Helluva lot better than Alabama.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 12:42 AM

Ahhh- lucky you. Alabama will be getting the first big swarm in over a decade. Coarse that means Tennesee might get some aswell.

Blaine 05-12-2011 12:43 AM

Swarm of Cicada? Oh, most definitely. Every 13 years. c:

Cronislee 05-12-2011 12:59 AM

No, worse than usual. For Alabama anyway. Cicada never bothered me, much.

Blaine 05-12-2011 12:59 AM

AGH, I trust you. xD
Are you from Alabama? :D

But now, I don't want to leave my house even more. orz

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:00 AM

No, I'm a Mississippian.

Blaine 05-12-2011 01:02 AM

Oh! Very nice!
I think I've only been once...but..I can't remember when so there's a HUGE possibility that I might be lying to you. T:

And thinking of Missouri. orz

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:03 AM

Hail to the South.

Blaine 05-12-2011 01:05 AM

Most. Def.
The best part of this country.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:06 AM

Damn right. *highfive*

Espy 05-12-2011 01:06 AM

-Cali girl barges in-

Cicadas....They're okay...sorta. But I don't have them around here; it's in Taiwan where they start getting on my nerves a bit.

Blaine 05-12-2011 01:07 AM

Fuck yes. :high-fives back:

Espy: Yeah, I don't know if they get as bad in Cali, but in asian countries, for sure. I was in Okinawa a few summers ago and they were LOUD AS HELL.
:<!

Espy 05-12-2011 01:10 AM

I sleep really soundly...but I was asleep when my dad parked the car under a tree...and they actually woke me up. Through the closed windows.

Which is kinda scary. My alarm clock could go off in the morning and my parents would have to come into my room to tell me to turn it off...

Speaking of Cali, weather here's being a bitch. Screw the stereotypical Cali summer...it was cold as shit at lunch today.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:10 AM

The south is most similar to Asia and Japan in many regards; thats one reason so many Vietnamese Refugees' have settled here. Oddly enough Mississippi is just as humid in high season as Japan.

Rumiel 05-12-2011 01:11 AM

We have cicada like creatures here, not nearly as beautiful but called june bugs.. dear LORD they freak me out so bad.. they rattle when they fly and I swear they try to launch directly AT ME DD8

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:12 AM

June Bugs are fun tho.
The cool thing about Cicada is that they live for so long, staying underground in hybernation for as long as 17 years.

Azrael 05-12-2011 01:13 AM

~shudder~ I hate bugs, all bugs. When I was a freshmen they used to say that in spring we'd get like, a ton of locus that swarmed the school. ;-; I was so terrified, but thankfully /that/ never happened. On the other hand, I hate summer because CRICKETS ARE FUCKIN' EVERYWHERE. Like seriously. So I see one and jump. Or a roach. Oh god.

Cicadas are loud and I'm always so paranoid cause I never know where they are ;-;

Blaine 05-12-2011 01:14 AM

We have June bugs and they are ICK.
I hate bugs, so, course I hate em when they come in June.
Or, in my case, any month they feel like.

Espy: I sleep like a rock no matter what, herp.

Cronis: Yeah? I cna understand that, especially yesterday from the heat. Felt just like Okiniwa, smelled like it, too, so I can believe that easily.

I live in Nevada so I know! I think we got SNOW yesterday apparently. SNOW IN THE MIDDLE OF MAY IN LAS VEGAS ._.' I was like so confused. the weather here is so bipolar lately. Hotter than hell in like July and February, then like colder than snot and ugh.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:16 AM

We have certain aspect, here in Dixie, that Yankee's and westerners dont quite get to experience. But meh, thats part of what sets us apart.

Espy 05-12-2011 01:16 AM

Speaking of June bugs...I think this is the type we have around here in the Bay Area.

They are annoying as shit.

The planet is receeding into a cooling period; Earth cycles between warm and cool every few hundred years, and the cooling period began to take effect around the late '90's, but its starting to show more.

As such I figured. XD Honestly. Except that it was in the 80's at some points in the MIDDLE of winter.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:20 AM

Aye, its part of the natural change in temperature the Earth moves thru.

Blaine 05-12-2011 01:21 AM

Cronis: Even though we've had these tornadoes and floods, I'd not want any other wether. tennessee weather is moodier than a pregnant woman, but I prefer it. Then again, I'm in love with the place I live. I've tried Indiana, I've tried Virginia and California, nothing compares. c:

YUP, we have those June bugs, too. OI.

What aspect? XD

I've been down to Louisiana+Mississippi+Alabama in the winter...That was decent until a cold front hit Mississippi...Gawd that was cold. But I don't think I'd want to be down there during the summer.

Azrael 05-12-2011 01:25 AM

I kinda wanna move to Virginia if I have to stay in the U.S. but I don't really wanna stay here. I kinda /at the moment/ want to move to Japan but I can't say for positive cause I've never been there. XD

I don't know what kinda bugs me have here, TBH, I don't pay attention cause to me a bug's a bug and I get the hell away from them. Except rolly pollies... I love those things! But I won't even pick up a butterfly or ladybug.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:25 AM

The South: Hurricanes, Tornados, and the occasional Flooding.
The West: Mudslides, land slides, Forest Fires, Earthquakes, and Wild Fires induced by lightning.
The North: Ice Storms, Blizards, Floords, Tornados, Twisters, White Outs, Brown outs, and Massive Thunder Storms.

I'll take my Stars and Bars and my dixie weather thank you.

They are annoying as shit.

Those are the evil bastards we have DD8 *shudders* they creep me out so much ;~; In our old apartment they would ALWAYS find a way to sneak in somehow DD8

Espy 05-12-2011 01:28 AM

You ignored the East Coast altogether there XD

Forest fires, Earthquakes, wildfires....yeah. Haven't seen a mudslide yet. Don't really want to either. We've got pretty bad thunderstorms too, but you get that everywhere. And yeah, the weather's been bipolar for the past few months.
