Short Songs

Since there is a long song thread, so why not the short songs. My shortest song I have in my itunes is the Double Rainbow Song which is 1 min 42 seconds.

What are your shortest songs you have

Suzerain of Sheol 05-19-2011 08:48 PM

The Dark Elf -- Blind Guardian, 23 seconds.

Just a male choir singing "A dark seed of evil is grown". The end. Very to the point. :p

Define "song"....

OSTs can be short as heck, and no, I'm not talking about the ambients or SFX in games.

Echo-chan713 05-19-2011 09:10 PM

Let's go to dictionary.com to answer that question:

1.
a short metrical composition intended or adapted for singing, especially one in rhymed stanzas; a lyric; a ballad.

2.
a musical piece adapted for singing or simulating a piece to be sung: Mendelssohn's “Songs without Words.”

3.
poetical composition; poetry.

4.
the art or act of singing; vocal music.

5.
something that is sung.

6.
an elaborate vocal signal produced by an animal, as the distinctive sounds produced by certain birds, frogs, etc., in a courtship or territorial display.

"Her Majesty" by The Beatles has to be my all-time favorite. <3 I also like "Goodbye Used World" on the Hellsing OST.

Technically, the shortest "song" on my iTunes is the "Nutopian National Anthem" by John Lennon, but it's four seconds of silence so it probably doesn't count. xD

Then I have "Miracle Cure" by The Who, but that's a sort of bridge song for a rock opera album called Tommy. Also not sure it counts, but it's thirteen seconds.

"Her Majesty" by the Beatles is 23 seconds and we're getting closer to actual "song" territory, here.

"Maggie Mae" by the Beatles: 41 seconds.

"Tea for the Tillerman" by Cat Stevens: a minute, two seconds.

I have about 60 songs under a minute and thirty seconds, at varying degrees of completion.

I'd have to say the shortest songs I have art Introductions as well as Interludes from Kamelot.

Quiet Man Cometh 05-29-2011 04:10 AM

Shortest song on my iTunes is "Soldier Side," System of a Down, but it's mroe an introduction to their CD than a proper song. The shortest song I've seen in the middle of a CD is Wierd Al Yankovic's "Harvey the Wonder Hampster." Can't recall the length but it's under a minutes, possibly under 30 seconds.

"Harvey, Harvey, Harvey the wonder hampster,
He doesn't bite; he doesn't squeal,
He just runs around on his hampster wheel.
Harvey, Harvey, Harveeeeeeeey the wonder hampsteeeerr!
Yay Harvey!"

Echo-chan713 06-13-2011 03:39 PM

Double Rainbow is still my shortest song Lift thread

Quiet Man Cometh 06-13-2011 11:14 PM

Does that have anything to with the double rainbow title that shows up?

My shortest "song" is One Last "Whoo-hoo!" For The Pullman, on Sufjan Steven's Chicago album. Though it's really just a couple chords and then a shout of "Woo-hoo!" It's 6 seconds long.
I have a 9 second song, Here Come The 123s, by They Might Be Giants. It's an intro track that just sings, "They Might be Giants, Here Come The 123s!" so I don't know if it counts either. (There's a similar 11-second song for their "Here Come The ABCs" album)

I do have four 10-second tracks that I would start to consider songs. Horrible Theme from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Phil by The Bird and the Bee, Horn Intro by Modest Mouse, and When I Go Out by Five Iron Frenzy.
Then I have a 13 second track, Dig Your Grave, from the same Modest Mouse album.
At this short length, it's hard to say whether an instrumental interlude is a song or not. They are in some ways, but some are just bridges from one song to another.

The shortest totally-absolutely-unquestioned song I've got, because most of the previous were instrumental interludes and/or jokes, is Fluffy by Harry and the Potters. Since the whole band is kindof a joke, the fact that the song is a total joke doesn't negate the fact that it's a song.

Once you get up to 20-second songs, I have LOTS of tracks of that length. between having a lot of soundtracks, alternative, ambient, and folk music, there's a lot of short interludes and for-fun songs in my iTunes. There's a Relient K song called Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care, and the lyrics go, "I just wasted 10 seconds of your life." and that's the end of the song. XD

My shortest song is Yesterday by The Beatles. 2:05. C:

Echo-chan713 08-11-2011 02:28 PM

More short songs; lift

Jurinjo 08-14-2011 09:39 AM

I am not willing to search ALL of my music (which admitedly isn't a lot)

"Elysian" by Pillar from their album The Reckoning
It's 1 minute and 48 seconds

Echo-chan713 08-21-2011 06:19 PM

well what you could do is if you have itunes you can order the sings by the time track

Alexander Linden 08-25-2011 10:55 PM

Five Iron Frenzy "When I Go Out" 7 seconds.

It's really a couple seconds longer with the drum at the end, but... this video seems to cut it off...
I think I have all of you beat... >.>

Lucid: 08-26-2011 03:56 PM

The track I have of When I Go Out is 10 seconds...

Alexander Linden 08-26-2011 04:26 PM

Yeah, I think that's the actual length of the song. The one I posted kinda cuts off the last parts.

Echo-chan713 02-18-2012 03:41 PM

There's got to be more short songs XP

Holy fuck. I was going to say the same thing. I tip my hat to you, fellow Sufjan fan. And you've also got my next two shortest which are 'Horn Intro' and 'Dig Your Grave' by Modest Mouse.

I have thirty-nine songs on my system which are less than one minute in length. Only six are under twenty seconds.

Asami 08-09-2012 12:12 AM

Two short songs I know aren't really 'songs' per say. They are like an intro into each album this band does.

The first is southern constellations by pierce the veil. It doubles with the boy who can fly. (When you play them together it flows seamlessly)

The other is may these noises startle you in your sleep again by PTV. Ot doubles with hell above (again it flows right into the song)
yes they are separate songs but its apart of a whole.

The band likes to have "intros"(I don't know why. Ive never researched it) but its actually pretty cool in my opinion. ^^
most versions of these songs will be found on youtibe grouped together but you can find them separate.
Southern constellations lasts about 1min and 9 secs
while may those noises..(ect) lasts about 1 min and 23 secs
owo
but I'm going by youtube time so idk ^^

Graceful Reaper 08-17-2012 09:28 AM

The Grand Theft Auto Vice City theme song, only 1 minute and 19 seconds but it's pure bliss to my ears.

Mika 10-09-2012 11:15 PM

My shortest song in my library is the Cybersix Theme, and it's just shy of a minute I do believe.

Echo-chan713 12-10-2012 10:49 AM

Bump thread please

Filthgrinder 04-18-2015 06:12 PM

The majority of Anal Cunt's discography, and "You Suffer" by Napalm Death, (absolute shortest), which is precisely 1.316 seconds.
