So... What happened to Board Games?

Well... This forum is overloaded with games I don't play and don't plan on playing because I'm not into video games. Also, there's this whole stigma thing going on that video games are the only games allowed here.

BUT I'D LIKE TO CHALLENGE THAT!

With... Board Games.

What happened to Monopoly? The Game of Life? Pictionary? Charades?

There's so many board games, and family games.. They were here LONG before the electronic ones and the consoles and the systems.

What happened to a good game of drafts? or chess?

What about the card games? the hand games? the puzzle games? the tic-tac-toe or hangman?

WHAT ABOUT MAH RUBIK CUBE!?!?! D=

Does playing only these games make you not a "gamer"? I'd like to think not.....

-------------------------------------------------------

Discuss your favourite "classic" games here! Whether from your childhood or what you play now! =D

I personally -love- Pictionary. It's insanely fun for me and I love trying to get people to guess what I'm drawing within the time limit. It challenges my skills and makes for a few good laughs XDDD

I also liked beating people playing chess and drafts. xDD I remember when I was first taught how to play chess.... and then the second game, I came around and won. *sigh* good times. I forgot how to play now though.

I can't play Scrabble to save my life. Words are definitely -not- my strong point. I always lose... ALWAYS =[

Batty 05-22-2011 09:10 PM

Oh god... Rubik cubes. xDD; I hate HATE those things.

But board games aren't completely lost! My mom, sister and I have board game nights once a week. We'll do scene it, and uno, and trivial pursuit... we all suck at them, but its fun regardless. xD;

Duchess 05-22-2011 09:14 PM

Rubik Cubes are awesome ;A; I can't solve one though >__>

We here do "family night" as well... not as often as we could tho. But when we do, we play Pictionary, Scrabble, Bingo, Ludo, and whatever else is lying around.

One of these days... I'll get them to play Girl Talk... or my Twister Moves. MWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!

Batty 05-22-2011 09:18 PM

OH MY GOD. TWISTER. That was one of my FAVORITES when I was a kid.

Probably because I'm limber and flexible. xD; No one here would play that with me. ;3;

Ashy 05-22-2011 09:19 PM

I have both Pokemon and Bunnings Monopoly :P

(Bunnings is a large harware store franchise over here that i used to work for)

Batty 05-22-2011 09:21 PM

<.< They have a Doctor Who monopoly board, I think. And a Scene-It, too.

I want both. SO very badly.

Duchess 05-22-2011 09:23 PM

There a Pokemon Monopoly? O____o *runs to Google*

We have this ToyStory Monopoly... and a Cars one... both Kids versions. Which end WAY too quickly imo. *shrugs* I heard about the SceneIt one.. but I've never played that game.

AND YES TWISTER IS AWESOME!! Except if someone falls on you..... and that person is heavy. That's not so awesome

Ashy 05-22-2011 09:27 PM

pokemon monopoly is expensive now

Batty 05-22-2011 09:28 PM

I've seen it at Big Lots, Duchess. <3 Only once though... and I never thought to grab it.

AND OMG YES. xDD; I've had that happen before. My entire body went -SMUSH!-

Duchess 05-22-2011 09:32 PM

I nearly accidentally deleted Ashy's post .___.

Batty 05-22-2011 09:33 PM

Ashy 05-22-2011 09:39 PM

i would have posted again :P

theres also pokemon master quest that was pretty awesome

Batty 05-22-2011 09:41 PM

I know there was a dice game, too. I don't remember exactly what it was for, and how to play it, but...

I think a trip to big lots is in order.

And yes, this is off topic, BUT PLEASE GET JUSTIN BIEBER OFF MY DAMN TV. ><
/moms watching the billboards, because I'm refusing her Doctor Who.

Duchess 05-22-2011 09:47 PM

Hahahah XDDD Everyone seems to be talking about the Billboards =/

I haven't seen much Pokemon stuff around these here parts.... Just a lot of Monopoly, Guess Who's and Connect 4 xP

I miss playing Connect 4....and Jenga.......

Ashy 05-22-2011 09:48 PM

is the tenth doctor on said billboard? cos id stare at it too >.>

Serra Britt 05-22-2011 09:51 PM

I like Risk, though it takes forever and takes too long to set up/clean up xD Same with Settlers of Catan... I also have Dork Tower but I haven't gotten to play it in a while. The last board game I played was Life, Pirates of the Caribbean version, and that was pretty fun xD

Do card games count too? I like Apples to Apples and Munchkin, but again not enough people to play with xD

Ashy 05-22-2011 09:55 PM

i have risk too, its actually quite fun :P

Duchess 05-22-2011 10:01 PM

There's a PoC Life now?? O___o *runs to Google*

I could never understand Risk... it just looks so complex

Ashy 05-22-2011 10:10 PM

its actually not that hard

Duchess 05-22-2011 10:11 PM

But it -looks- hard xP

Echo-chan713 05-22-2011 10:46 PM

Last time I played a board game it was the old school battleship and Apples to Apples (but that's considered a card game)

Ashy 05-22-2011 10:49 PM

lol i forgot about battleship ><

Echo-chan713 05-22-2011 11:00 PM

YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!!! >.<

Ashy 05-22-2011 11:42 PM

muahahaha victory is mine :D

Quiet Man Cometh 05-23-2011 01:44 AM

From the "classic" games I'd say Pictionary and Battleship are my favourites. Generally now I like to play the board games that have been making their way over from Europe. I have some games I haven't played like Princes Of Florence, Traders of Genoa, and Tigris and Euphrates, but others like Settlers of Catan I like to play.

My favourite games now tend to be put out my Fantasy Flight Games. Citadels is one (card based game). Some of the others are re-releases from the 80's like Fury of Dracula, and Talisman. They tend to take a long time to play though. Talisman and Fury can easily go for several hours, Talisman can take days depending on how one likes to play the game.

Fey 05-23-2011 02:37 AM

Ooooooooooooo, I love games, my favourites are Uno!(I've six versions) Apples to Apples(I've all version released) Scattegories, chess, Fluxx and a variety of card games. I used to have epic long games of monopoly, and I love playing Clue(even if I'm inevitably the killer). Never got into a lot of the other games as a kid...didn't play my first game of Cooties until my last birthday, was sorta hillarious yelling 'I need head!!!'....

Mizeria 05-23-2011 05:05 AM

I love boardgames and table top games (theres another thread for those tho)
I just don't have people to play with... so I don't get to play them.
I love chess, and checkers.
Risk, Life, Sorry, Candyland, Mousetrap (or was it mousehunt?), Clue, and I've always waned to learn Go.
but I was an only child so I didn't play games much as a kid either...

Serra Britt 05-23-2011 09:18 AM

Go is a fun game once you learn it :3 Now that I think about it I also always enjoyed Othello. And One I forgot from the list above is Blockus, a rather interesting game with lots of strategy :3

Mizeria 05-23-2011 01:47 PM

Othello is AWESOME!

I would play Twister with you, Batty. ;D
I love Twister and I'm way good at it. I don't understand how to lose at twister, unless someone forcefully pushes you over. XD

Settlers of Catan is my favorite board game. it's really fun, and I love beating my friends at it. XD

and Killer Bunnies is the BEST CARD GAME IN THE WORLD. it's so crazy, but that's what makes it awesome.

Sadrain 05-23-2011 02:37 PM

I LOVE MONOPOLY. And other board games. Butbut... I has no one to play with. DD:

Fizzyology 05-23-2011 05:45 PM

lol I honestly think some of the kids these days haven't even HEARD of board games XD

My family has a bunch of board games but they're all in the laundry room collecting dust and haven't been touched in years D:

My Husband and I even have the original Perfection lol. That game freaks me out when it pops out ;o;

and call us lame and obsessed, but we have the Yu-Gi-Oh! board game too XD

Serra Britt 05-23-2011 06:45 PM

Oh my, the original Perfection, I remember playing that when I was young. I was so terrible at it too, so bad at remembering where the shapes were located on the board ><

Quiet Man Cometh 05-23-2011 06:47 PM

I'm wary about playing Twister. I'm small and bendy enough to reach most things but it also means that when someone falls down I usualy sustain some form of damage. Not so fun.

I've played Blockus a few times. My brother is a board game nut and has almost everything under the sun, except the stuff like Monopoly, Sorry, Parcheezie, etc. Those generally come off as too simple around our place. Much more fun when you have tiles to flip and rolling rock markers to move around. Heh. Labyrinth we have and I enjoyed it even though I've only played it once.

Serra Britt 05-23-2011 07:17 PM

Labyrinth xD The first time I tried that I used my fingers to move the board rather than the dials on the side ^^; That was a lot of fun though :3
I've tried Twister but I'm not very flexible, but it was only with three total I think...probably wasn't as fun as it could be :P

Itch 05-24-2011 07:06 AM

I still play Pictionary and Monopoly like a boss.

RUBIKS skjdhfksljdhlgkjahdsljgkhaskljghjkahfgkljh Have you tried to Rubiks 360? Most challenging thing I have ever done = n=

It's Mouse trap.

So many pieces DX good chance I might of lost one

Duchess 05-24-2011 09:13 AM

Today I learnt that what you Americans call Parcheesi..... we call it Ludo |D

*The More You Know*

Lunaryon 05-25-2011 12:04 PM

What's Parcheesi/Ludo? Sounds... interesting.

Sadrain 05-25-2011 12:46 PM

So many games I have never heard about.. What about the good ol' Circus and Snakes and Ladders? xD
