Within Temptation
If you haven't heard their music before, then you are missing out. There is a little confusion on what genra they actually fall under though. I have seen them listed as a Dutch Goth Rock band, but I don't know that they fall under that theme. -shrugs-
Still, they are a fantastic band that I highly recommend. I've linked a few of their songs with the videos below. Enjoy and chat about them! The Howling What Have You Done Stand My Ground Frozen Angels |
well....thay are ok, not bad by any means but nothing super special
|
Eh, to each their own. I love her voice, mostly. That and the first song I heard was Frozen...it kinda speaks to me in a way that most other songs don't.
|
the girl is the part that makes it fair, she has a common sound to a lot of others but that is desirable in something like that
and fair enough^^ i may be able to tell good music when i see it but i have a soft spot for terrible music myself hahahaha |
I personally don't think their terrible. What I was meaning is that her voice is gorgeous. I don't really find her sound common at all. That being said, I don't know where you are from so it may be more common for your area then it is for me.
|
I like Angels and Memories!
I really have not listened to any of their other songs. I'd probably like them if I heard them though. The music video for Memories is quite good. |
I've gone back and forth on this band for a couple years now. I've felt the urge to really get into them a few times, but I always end up drifting away from them. I prefer beauty and the beast vocals rather than exclusively female, but there are female-only bands I like a lot more than WT, like... say, Octavia Sperati, Leaves' Eyes, or Delain.
There's something about her voice that I don't really care for. It sounds kind of... forced, or something. Compare it to Lisa Johansson's from Draconian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1mXFisQ9yU I prefer something rich and real sounding like that, over the sort of plastic-y, produced sound Sharon and a lot of other singers in the genre use. But, that's just me. Anyway, if you like WT, you might like Delain, too. They're very similar. |
I don't really get that feeling from her voice myself. I'll check out the other bands, though. I think I've heard Delain before and didn't really care for them, but I'll check something out by them as well because I can't really remember at this point.
|
I'm trying to think of other bands in that vein, drawing a bit of a blank. If you like operatic female voices (I don't) there's Nightwish and Edenbridge. If you don't mind the addition of growled male vocals, Sirenia, Tristania, After Forever, and Theater of Tragedy are a few other goth metal bands I listen to. A few other sort of similar bands I know are Magica, Mortal Love, and Flowing Tears. Granted, I've kind of gotten sick of gothic metal lately.
|
I never could get into Nightwish, but I haven't heard of the other bands so I'll certainly go listen to them.
|
Ah... About year ago, I listened to them nearly nonstop for a while. Then I cooled down about 'em, sorta, to the point I had been before. Now I rarely want to hear any of their songs on my ipod, except when in certain moods.
The vocalist's voice is nice, but sometimes too high pitched for me. I like Tarja Turunen's voice the best out of all metal female vocalists, I think. What tied me to that band, and still does, is how the song sounded as a whole AND the lyrics. Mostly the lyrics, if honestly. I love songs like Truth Beneath the Rose. |
I listen to them now and again. I love the haunting sound of their music.
|
That, that's part of what I love so much. The sound of most of their music has a haunting quality to it that's just beautiful!
|
If it isn't too much trouble, could you suggest a song of theirs that you consider particularly haunting? I've never really felt that way about their music, but maybe I haven't listened to the right songs of theirs.
|
Moonspell? Well, like I said, my favorite are Scorpion Flower, Than Serpent in My Arms, Capricorn, Mephisto. I also like Luna, Night Eternal, Wolfshade. But what took me completely at first was Scorpion Flower, so yea. ^^; My "fandom" started from there.
ut I think it really depends on person and the mood and everything. Right now, I am not nearly as swoony as I used to be, I am into much more serene music. Although, I still can appreciate amazingness of Fernando Ribeiro's voice, but right now Adriano Celentano (his latest songs, like Confessa in particular) songs are closer/dearer than most of Moonspell's (except the four I listed at the beginning). v.v; |
http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...rayed/Lazy.gifhttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...ngonmoon-1.gifhttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...rayed/Lazy.gif They're my favorite gothic band =D Have you heard their song, "In Perfect Harmony"? |
I love within temptation but can't listen to the music much cause it gives me headaches. But if you like them you might try listening to some nightwish.
|
I love Within Temptation and Nightwish. I tend to think the singer for Within has a slightly sweeter sound to her voice and a generally higher range than the singer for Nightwish.
My favorite songs from Within are probably Memories, Forsaken, Dark Wings and In Perfect Harmony. I think there is one more I really like but I can't remember it's name right off. |
When you all mention Nightwish, are you talking old Tarja-Nightwish, or new Annette-Nightwish? I don't really care for either that much, but I'd take Tarja over Annette any day for vocals.
|
I never really got into Nightwish myself. I have tried to listen to them more then once, with both lead singers, and I don't really like them.
|
I kind of have the same problem. Neither singer sings in the style I prefer for that sort of music. I never liked Epica or Edenbridge for the same reason. They sing in the same operatic style as Tarja.
|
I haven't really listened to Edenbridge, but I can't get into Epica either myself.
|
her album from this year was really good
|
I've only heard a couple of songs, but I really liked those.
|
I love their song "Stand My Ground" a whole lot.
Heard of them from Nightwish. Either on pandora or youtube. I'm not so big on having a favorite band so much as knowing what bands play songs I like. Miley Cyrus has many haters but I like a majority of her songs. The Climb being my all time favorite though. But anyways...yeah I can't think of anything else. |
I don't know if I have a favorite band, and I did not mean to mislead people to thinking that Within Temptation is my favorite. Actually, Perfect Circle or Tool would probably qualify better...or Rage Against the Machine. Still, I love their music.
|
╔═════════════════════════════════╗ (。◕‿◕。) I love their music. They are amazing. The woman, forgive me for not knowing her name, has a beautiful voice. My favorite album is The Heart of Everything and Silent Force. ╚═════════════════════════════════╝ |
I mean Tarja-Nightwish... Anette's voice can't carry out the Nightwish music, in most cases, especially live. Only song I like from Anette-Nightwish is Escapist.
I like lower voices, so I prefer Nightwish over Within Temptation. From sort of gothic singers, maybe Emilie Autumn could be something some people here would enjoy. She sings in many different styles... Like, Enchanted album and Opheliac are two COMPLETELY different things. |
Hmm, I will check her out. I am always interested in listening to different kinds of music. Within Temptation is, by no means, the only example of what I listen to. If you look at my early post you will see as much. I lean more towards heavy metal, but just found Within Temptation to be really good.
|
I think Anette should quit Nightwish and join Pain permanently. I like her better in their Follow Me video than anything I've heard from her in Nightwish.
|
It could be cause you barely here her there and the male vocalist's voice takes over completely most of the time. And where there are her lines, she does it completely different style and it's not so much of carrying out the music thing. She has medium voice and can toughen up some to do a song or two pretty good, but in the long run, Nightwish isn't the thing for her.
But it is pretty cool song. -bookmarks- |
Yeah, she sounds better when there's another singer to support her, to me, rather than as the star of the show.
And, amusingly, that's one of the only Pain songs I've ever heard, but I keep coming back to it. I should check out the rest of their stuff sometime. |
Exactly! xD
I will probably do the same, too. x3 But I guess I am more into the cruxshadows mood right now. ^^; |
i love this group! I found it on youtube; was watching a D.N.Angel AMV and wanted to know what the song was; Forsaken.
|
I love this group. I think that they are on par with Evanescense in regards to gothic music (although they are the only two bands that I have heard for this genre). I would love to have their music. I did at one point, but I lost it during the information switch from my old computer to my new computer >.>
|
I can think of many other gothic bands that have solely female vocalists. Just the above-mentioned Flowing Tears, Delain, Octavia Sperati, and Leaves' Eyes.
My two favorite gothic bands are My Dying Bride and Draconian, though they're both gothic-doom, not just goth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXhXk3uE_y4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9qubiWk8pU |
Scratch that. There is one Nightwish song I like. The Islander. Neither women are the lead singers in this. I think that guy should just do the singing, he's great.
|
I heard this band on my Pandora app while driving one day. I like it a lot, reminds me of Nightwish, but not so heavy.
|
I got into this band when I listened to the song "See who I am"
I thought that it was a great song. Then I listened to other songs like Jillian (I think thats what its called) , Solemn Hour, Pail. I just recently listened to the song I think its called Say my name or something. But it was a beautiful song. Even though its about Alzheimers. |
Hmm, you have some songs listed that I do not think I've heard. I'm going to go and try to listen to them. Thank you for listing them.
Edit: Okay, Say My Name has me in tears. That's a deep subject for me. Both of my Great Grandmothers suffered from Alzheimers and listening to that song...I just thought about how it hurt my dad when his grandmother didn't remember him. |
