Your Desk/Work Space!

Hi everyone! I thought it might be fun to show of desk and work spaces.

For artists, discuss the various tools found on/around your desk, how often you use them, ect.

For writers, do you use a notebook or the computer to work?

Everyone else: What do you have on your desk? Books, dolls, toys, etc. Do these items mean anything to you? Do you use them a lot? etc.

This is also the place to post images of your desk/work space if you so desire. Have fun!

Demonskid 08-21-2011 02:44 PM

I shall post an image later of my work space :3

It consists of a Night stand thing and 2 of them little fold up food tray things that sit in front of a couch or bed. :3

I have my sketch book sitting on top of my desktops monitor. my pencils and pens are sitting close by. it's all right next to my bed cause I am lazy.

My laptop sits on one of the fold up trays. this way i can work on both computers at the same time.

I'm a messy person so there are empty soda cans that need to be picked up, my Circle K froster cup and polar pop cup. my mice for the computers. my head set sits on the one tiger plush that sits on my headboard. =w=

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 02:45 PM

My current work space. I am currently working on a sketch of Remy Lebeau for Fey, and that one behind it is the DW is Mine pic (link in my sig to larger image for that)

The whole desk:

My books (obviously not ALL of my books, just the ones on my desk. some yaoi titles), this image also shows some of my art supplies; watercolors, watercolor pencil, wooden figure, sewing supplies:

My tablet, tower, paper cranes, magazines:

Misc Halloween Items and potions:

Yes, the jar next to those notebooks and Japanese-English dictionary DOES say Bat Wing. xD The one next to the cat says "Spooktacular Remedies".

Poggio 08-21-2011 02:48 PM

I don't have a camera but as soon as I can I will get a picture of my desk. It currently has art stuff to the right of where I sit, a lamp and a pile of books where I put my laptop xD.

As a random side note: OMG I love Brent Weeks. I'm waiting to get the S\sequel to Way of shadows.

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 02:49 PM

I'm reading the second one right now, which is why it's not in the box with the others. xD
I love them too. I'm currently also reading the Necromancer Chronicles, a series by Gail Z. Martin if you are like that kind of stuff. xD

Poggio 08-21-2011 02:51 PM

I'll have to see if the library has a copy, since that is were I find most of my books. I'm currently reading The Child Thief by Brom. Hes an Artist that writes his own books and does a lot of work for things like DD and WoW. So once I finish that I will be on the prowl for more books.

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 02:52 PM

Ah okay. My real book self is on the other side of the room, it takes up the wall all the way to the ceiling... >.>

Poggio 08-21-2011 02:55 PM

Lol, my closet is my book shelf, the top shelf is full of hard backs and I have a bin of paper backs. I don't really have any shelving in my room except for my desk, and an antique chair. ( which shouldn't count XD but it does ) It kinda makes it hard to work when all my books are piled on my desk instead of a proper spot.

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 02:56 PM

That would drive me nuts! xD

Demonskid 08-21-2011 02:56 PM

I have that Manga! *points at Kissing*

your desk is so neat and tidy :o

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 02:59 PM

xD I like that one...

And of course it is, I just moved everything, rearranged and cleaned it last night while I was fixing my computer. lol

Poggio 08-21-2011 03:01 PM

XD kinda makes me want to go Ocd, on my desk so I can actually get some water colors done. Merg, I need to find a spot to put all my junk. Also, are you a witch?

Demonskid 08-21-2011 03:03 PM

I want the umbreon plush xD

I need to go find my cam corder and take some pics. =w= but my spot is messy D8

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:04 PM

I do all my watercoloring on the dining room table, I don't want to accidentally spill the water at my desk... >.>

What makes you think I'm a witch? Is it the fact that I have Extract of Bat Wing and a jar of Spooktacular Remedy, or is it the potions (Health and Mana >.>).

DK - I love my Odin <3

Umbreon = Odin
Espeon = Ra
Gengar = Kami

The Torchic and Meowth are currently unnamed though...

Demonskid 08-21-2011 03:07 PM

Where'd you get the little (ugh what are they called...) figure thingy that helps when drawing people.. x.x you can pose them and stuff.. I need to get one of those.

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:09 PM

The wooden figure? Um, it came with an art kit that someone got me while I was in High School. If you have a Barnes and Noble near you, I've actually seen one there, alone with posable wooden hands. If not, I suggest a craft store like Michael's.

Poggio 08-21-2011 03:13 PM

They are very expensive at Micheal's its best to see if they have one of those how to draw kits at Barnes and Noble.

Lol do you have a phoenix down too?

Also my parents would kill me if I did art in the kitchen or any where outside of my room.

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:17 PM

lol No, I don't have a Phoenix Down. The Health and Mana potions WERE once energy drinks. They were gross, I don't suggest getting them. I had them sitting on my desk for a while, cause I liked the bottles and that they said Health and Mana Potion on them. But... the stain on the inside from the liquid that used to be in them was bugging me.

So last night, I tore of the labels, cleaned them out and filled them with water and red and blue ink from sharpies that were going to die anyway. And "Viola!", they look even better like this! The red one actually kinda looks like blood if you look at it up close.

As for art at the table... >.>
It's my table, I do whatever the hell I want with it. xD

I don't know of any Barnes & Noble here.. the closest thing we had was Boarders and well that is gone now =(

I'll check at Michael's and ask for one for xmas thanks :3

Mah Pictures!

Desktop/headset/speakers:

theres my messy room er work space xD

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:23 PM

You might be able to find one at Amazon.com.

Demonskid 08-21-2011 03:25 PM

hope so. I need one so i can practice full bodies xD I suck so bad at full body art

Poggio 08-21-2011 03:26 PM

Mr Bear! XD and I enjoy how theres a cat apart of Drawing and Art stuff.

Well since our last land lord sued us for having paint stains on the wall, and the carpet my parents got pissed. I am also very clumsy @.@ and have a bad habit of mixing my paint water with things I am eating. Luckily now I just work with water color.

Where did you get a drink called health and Mana?

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:26 PM

I used to use stock photos for things like that. I use a lot of references sometimes, but I've been using less and less for poses recently. I think I've finally figured out anatomy well enough to go without those or the figure.

Poggio - You can get them online, Hot Topic (as far as I know), FYE, etc. I think Paizo might sell them... or was it Wizards of the Coast? Can't remember, but they are based on Health and Mana potions from video games. They kinda reminded me of the ones from Diablo II.

Demonskid 08-21-2011 03:29 PM

I'm trying =w= *looks at many downloaded 'how to draw' books*

poggio - that would be my Zeke D8 he wanted some spot light so he stretched out to get into the shot xD

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:30 PM

Honestly, How To Draw books aren't as great as looking at fashion magazines, manga with incredible eye candy, and photos in general. Observing people in real life is nice too, if people don't think you're staring at them. lol

Study other artists. Look at their tutorials, try to emulate artists with similar styles to your own, or styles that you would like to be able to do yourself. And then branch off from there and find your own style.

Demonskid 08-21-2011 03:34 PM

I'll try to do that. Mom keeps getting magazines so I'll snag some from her *since I only get horse, cat and bird magazines*

Poggio 08-21-2011 03:36 PM

As far as art goes i agree with Alex, except I find art books to be helpful, like I have the art of toy story three, and a art book from a comic I read they are wonderful for help.

XD so I have pictures of my desk, however my dad can't find the usb for the camera.

Ah, those stores that I rarely traverse into.

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:36 PM

Then again... The magazines on my shelf are Men's Health and GQ. They totally work.. >.>

lol

Demonskid 08-21-2011 03:41 PM

Mom.. some how ended up with mens health, sports, rolling stones.. and some other crap xD

The one art book I downloaded helped me a lot with my hands and feet. :3 thanks to them I'm getting better at that part xD

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 03:51 PM

I've noticed a lot of how to draw manga books are really crappy. xD So stay clear of those! However, I really liked the Japanese Comicker books. If you see those, there's lots of lovely art in those.

Poggio 08-21-2011 04:10 PM

I have a vendetta against Christopher Hart. Hes the one that has the most american manga how to draw books. After a while they don't tell you things you don't already know, like using structure for the basic figure and what not. I find watching speed draws or live streams help too.

The Desk:

XD My Hard Backs:

Demonskid 08-21-2011 04:16 PM

alex - those are the ones people get me and suck its why I download the ones I do to see if they help :3

poggio - I have one of his books.. my ex got it for me and i hate it the most D8 .. I SEE A SHARPIE! *snags* x3

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 04:25 PM

It really annoys me that people can publish those pieces of crap... >.<

Echo-chan713 08-21-2011 04:26 PM

I'm not at my desk at the moment, butt basically I bring my drawing stuff in a backpack, I made my own sketchbook out of a binder and a 3 hole puncher.

But basically my desk/workspace is just a printer, keyboard, mouse, and my monitor and that's about it. It's nothing specails my deak only has 4 draws no shelves and it's below a picture of Miku I got for free and a flag of France.

yea. It was no help what so ever to me and a waste of money =(

Poggio 08-21-2011 04:30 PM

It annoys me, that he thinks he can make money off those books when his art sucks monkey ass. I mean most people grow out of the phase where the head is too big for the body in a matter of years but not him. And it stylistically urks me that hes getting an entire generation of people to draw that way. ><

-Chases after Dk- Give me back my sharpie woman!

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 04:32 PM

Yeah. His art really does suck, I don't know why he'd publish a book to help other artists when those using it probably draw better than he does.

Demonskid 08-21-2011 04:37 PM

I think it was that book that made me worse xD I tried some things from there and it was all Ugh.

I like the one how to draw anime & game characters by Tadashi Ozawa. Its one of the things I downloaded :3

Alexander Linden 08-21-2011 04:46 PM

The downloaded books that I have are all from an old pencil artist that shows how to draw folds and shadow on cloth. Otherwise... I don't find many how-to-draws useful. xD

It's not anime or manga related at all. I tend to not go for ones anime or manga related (unless they have really cool art in them!), because I want to develop my own style and want it to look... not completely influenced by Japanese-style art. I don't think I've completely gotten away from it, but I'm happy with where my pencil art has gotten so far.

Demonskid 08-21-2011 05:00 PM

I like the anime style type of drawing and I tend to adapt my own style when I do draw. x3
