Freedom Shards
Strife rings across the nation and finally...release. The New States of America are born. Seperate from their other these people are free to follow their own consitution. Canada, as always, is caught in the middle of America's problems. This New America must stand against all the trials and tribulations of a new country. The only question is weather or not they shall suceed where others have failed.
After all the fighting, for America wouldn't let parts of his country go without a fight, Who would? the new country is so very tired. There...was so much fighting and so much pain and the like, but it was needed for the people. They wanted a government that wouldn't lie as much, one that would follow its own laws, and they couldn't get their own country, by themselves, to be that way. And so, they left their country to form their own. The new America has brown hair and greenish brown eyes. He doesn't look particularly threatening or anything. He's too young for that as of now, but he will grow. Now, to see if the country can survive without the rest of the states it used to be a country with.
Canada was shocked to here the news of his big brother. HE had been aware of the war between the two parts of him but he never believed it would split again, not after the Civil War. He was slightly curious as to how this nex country would act and all but he mostly worried for the remaining America. America had been his idol and was not supposd to be divided or defeated.
This new America, who is taking the old name of the Confederacy, is just trying to recoup after the damage done, physically and more during the war. He actually didn't want to fight America. He just wanted to be free just like America did when the Revolutionary War went down. Which is why he hoped America would understand what he wanted to do, but it didn't work out that way obviously. The only difference between this time and last time? They had prepared for it more. Stockpiling supplies that could be stockpiled. And they went from there. But now? The Confederacy is now alone. And they don't have everything they need to survive and neither does America anymore. America has lost a big portion of agriculture and fishing due to this. Not all of it, no where near that, but enough is gone to cause a problem for them both. He's, currently, sent letters to other countries, asking for aid in some form or another, willing to trade various agricultural things for it, also sending a note to America apologizing, but also saying it had to be done, just like America had to fight Britain.
When the letter arrived asking Canada for aid, he was torn. He desperatly wanted to help this new country but he did not want America angry at him. Canada reread the letter and noticed the tone, it was hurt and weary. It almost seemed sad. Canada shook his head, he was reading far to much into this. The letter asked for suplies and protection for the new Confederacy. Canada internally winced at the name but decided that the new country had been pressed for time and needed a name. He stood and paced, Canada would take no sides as per normal and he would make sure both America's knew that. He would aid both until it came once more to war then he would withdraw his aid from both. No favorites, just business. Even as Canada sat down to compose a letter to both Americas he knew this would have a lasting effect that would either heal or become infected.
The Confederacy is actually fine with this. He doesn't expect anyone to give him excessive aid. That's why he sent it to multiple people. He's not picky. Anything would help at this point. Even if he doesn't need it personally, he'll find a way to use it to get what is needed. He just wants to make sure his people will make it through and that they'll be able to come back and support themselves after this war. Also, in his reply, he invites Canada down there whenever he wishes, though it isn't anywhere near perfect down there right now.
The reply came almost imediatly and Canada could not say he was surprised. America was indignant that Canada dare help help his float away states. The surprise came with the Confederacy's reply an invitation to come down any time. Canada generally avoided going anywhere except for the World Confrences. A nice offer but one he was likely never to act on. The offer needed a reply though, a nicely worded thanks but no thanks. And America needed a letter to remind him that he was a World Power, not the world itself.
He's a little disappointed that Canada declined his offer. He is going to help the country...he should come down and see what his help is doing. So he writes back, saying the offer is still open since he is planning on sending aid...and should see what the aid is doing. Also, he asks if he could come up there sometime...mentioning the fact that it doesn't snow much down in the south. He wants to play in the snow, though he doesn't put that in his reply.
Canada reads the Confederates reply with a slight smile. The young country really wants him to vist. Canada agrees that the Confederacy should come up some time to see the snow. He knows the South of the USA does not get much snow. The next letter he writes freely invites the Confederacy over but again states the Canada will likely not leave Canada. He does mention that his aids will have cameras though so he can see the Confederacy.
The Confederacy gets lonely quickly. And also, he doesn't want to end up alone in the world or anything. That would be good mentally or economically. He gets all excited like a little kid when Canada says he can come visit. Maybe they can be friends...and if nothing else he can try to make a snowman! He writes back which mostly is one big rambling thing about him being happy that he can come visit someday and that he will soon!
A while later, the Confederacy finally makes the trip to Canada, after asking Canada about the time he wanted to come. And he looks hilarious bundled up as much as he is. It is that cold to him. It gets into the NEGATIVES in Canada. It gets cold in the confederacy, but no where near that much. |
The next letter from the Confederacy amuses Canada. He can definatly see the youth of the new country. When the Confederacy comes to visit Canada helo in a quite laugh at how the country looked. Canada himself was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. "You don't need all those layers, it's not that cold yet."
"That's what you say. But you live here. The cold is normal to you. I'm used to OMG I'M MELTING...heat." And he isn't lying. It hit over 130 with heat index over the summer in his area. Compared to that, Canada is freezing. "And I can always strip like this. Otherwise I might freeze if I don't have enough layers."
Canada smiled, "I do suppose living here would make me more immune to the cold. Hypothermia is never a fun thing to recover from." Canada patted Confederate's shoulder with his unoccupied hand. "Would you like to see some live polar bears?"
He just smiles back, glad to be able to meet Canada...and did he say polar bears? His eyes go all shiny and chibi like. He may look like he should be more adult, but polar bears are awesome. "Where are they?!" He's starting to bounce a bit. "Let's gooooooooo!" He was once part of America, he's going to have some of those characteristics like America.
Canada could not help but smile at the teen who acted like a child. The similarities with America were astounding but where to be expected in what was once America. "One of my towns is the polar bear capitol of the world. Churchill, Canada, has a nice ring to it doesn't it?" Canada had a soft grin and clutched his stuffed polar bear closer. "And the polar bears there are quite friendly."
"Why do you carry a polar bear around?" He's just asking. He doesn't mind if Canada carries a stuffed animal or not around-that's Canada's thing. Why should he judge it. "Really? It's the polar bear capital?" It's way better than soybeans....that's for sure. Tennessee has a lot of soybeans to say the least. "Is it bad when you say Churchill...I think Winston Churchill?" Yeah, but it's the first thing that comes to mind. He just smiles as Canada hugs his stuffed polar bear. He thinks it is cute.
Canada looked at his polar bear then shrugged, "I don't know why, but Am...I've always just done it." He smiled and hopes the Confederacy does not notice his slip. "Yep, and the people there love their polar bears and allow them everywhere." He winked at the Confederacy, "If your lucky you could probably pet one, they are quite friendly." And Canada let out a small chuckle at the fact Churchill reminded the youn COnfederacy of Winston Churchill. "It's okay if the town name reminds you of that, just don't tell the locals."
He doesn't notice the slip actually, but either way it wouldn't bother him. America still exists. And he's still a world power...just with a few less states now. "They don't start eating them or anything?" He doesn't actually know if a polar bear would eat a person, but if food was scarce enough...he thinks they would eat a human. Food is food. He doesn't know how he feels about petting something with that big of a mouth with sharp teeth in it...if Canada's serious. "I wasn't planning on mentioning it....how many provinces are there in here?" Random question is a go! He knows some of them, but he doesn't know them all.
"No, polar bears don't eat humans." Canada answered, "And in return the humans leave the polar bears natural food in abundance." Canada would now admit that he was impressed with this young nation, questions were a good way to start learning and growing. "I have ten provinces and three territories in my country. And Churchill is located in Manatoba. Manaroba joined me in 1870 and was the fifth providence to join." It was a little more then the Confederacy had asked for but once Canada started actually talking and being heard t was hard to stop.
"Oh...okay then." He could see them eating people...if a famine went down or something. He just listens to Canada. "I might forget that though....but I'll try to remember all of it." He smiles at the other. He doesn't mind the extra information. It can't hurt. It can only help. He kind of nudges Canada a bit. "Let's go see polar bears!" He starting to bounce again. He's excited to say the least about the polar bears.
"Off to see the polar bears." Canada agrees and leads the young nation to Churchill. Just as Canada had thought today few tourists had come and the town was mostly empty eccept for the polar bears and the people who were there all the time. Canada carefully walked up to the polare bear, carefull not to scare it. "Hey there." He said in a low voice allowing it to get used to him.
"Yaaaaaaaay!" And then Canada can find himself being hugged. "Polar bears!" Once they get there, he just watches Canada all wide chibi-eyed as the other gets close to a polar bear. Sure, Canada said polar bears don't eat people....but that doesn't mean the thought/possibility of a polar bear eating someone has gone away. And because of that...he's just going to watch the bears, and Canada.
The polar bear is used to people by now, but in no way tame so Canada is slightly surprised when it walks up to him and places it nose on his shoulder. The sudden contact send Canada onto the ground and the polar bear blinks down at him. "You're a bit more social then the others I take it?" Canada asked the bear his voice still soft. He raise his voice a bit when he addressed the Confederacy, "Would you like to pet this one? He is quite friendly." To prove his point Canada reacher up and place his hand on the polar bear's back.
He starts giggling as Canada falls. He can't help it. He knows it's rude, but it's funny to him. He just starts edging over there at Canada's question. He wants to pet the polar bear...but even if they don't eat people...they aren't exactly like cats or dogs either. So he keeps edging over until he can pet/touch the polar bear. He makes this weird happy noise as he pets the polar bear.
Canada does not mind the giggling even if it was a him, he was sure the image was funny. His smile stayed on his face as the Confederacy petted the polar bear. The polar bear apparently really likes it and lays down on the ground do they can have better petting access. This behavior confuses Canada a lot, the polar bears normally walk off after a few seconds.
It was funny. The polar bear used head butt...and it was effective. The Confederacy makes a surprised noise as the polar bear flops down on the ground. He shrugs a bit before scratching behind the polar bear's ears. Most everything else likes being scratched there so why not? "Is this normal?" Not that he's complaining. He likes this polar bear so far...and it's not eating him! That's a good bonus.
"No, it is not, but this might just be because it is used to people doing it." Canada answered truthfully. He pets the bear with the Confederacy until it stands up and walks away. "Or it could just have decided it liked you." Canada said as he stood up, the polar bear was gone now. Canada looked to the sky and said, "I hope you want to see some snow." The sky had darkened and white flakes were difting down. "We might want to head inside, I'm not dressed for this weather."
"Oh okay then." Either way, it doesn't bother him since the bear is being good. Well good by his standards. "Bye bye." He says as the polar bear walks away. "Either way, it's a positive thing." He just smiles. He likes that polar bear. "SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!" He runs around in circles for a few moments around Canada. His area doesn't get a lot...actually they get almost no snow...so he's excited to say the least. "Okay. Let's go in. Can we make a snowman later?"
"Of course you can." Canada assures the Confederacy. "I will join you after I change." Canada heads a hotel he knows will allow them to just to change outfits. "And if you need something and I have not finishe4d chaging almost anyone you ask will help you.
The Confederacy is all....wiggly? right now. That's the best way to explain his excitement-that he's trying to control a bit. "If I need anything I can wait that long at least." So, while Canada changes, the Confederacy does his wiggling thing while staring at the snow falling. It's already more snow than his place gets.....unless they gave a bad snow storm or something.
When Cada comes out more dressed for the snow he can almost see the excitment coming of the Confederacy. "You don't get a lot of snow, do you?" He has seen the look on some of the other contries faces when they see the snow by Niagra which has one of the lowest amounts of snowfall in Canada. "And now you can go outside and play in it."
"Nooooooo....unless it's one of those storms that knocks out everything. No electricity or anything so you can't come inside and warm up or anything. Then...it's just cold." He knows what that's like. His heating goes out when the power goes out. Same for his air conditioning of course. And at that last part? The confederacy disappears outside to play in the snow, making shapes in it and the like.
Canada follows the Confederacy outside and grins slightly. He has seen many other's play in the snow and it used to its prensence himself but he always like to watch people play in it anyways. He made himself at home in the snow for a while then called out to the Confederacy, "How do you feel about making a igloo?" For some strange reason a lot of people want to do that and Canada will admit that watching the creation of one is interesting.
"Have you ever made that....snow cream? stuff? Do you know what it is?" He's heard of it, but isn't sure what it is...and he couldn't make any of it anyway. His head appears nearby at the question. "If you know how to make them, sure!" He doesn't know how though. And so he kind of rolls to Canada...he likes making indents and other things in the snow.
"are you refering to snow cones or ice cresm or yet another frozen sweet?" Canada asked. He knew how to prepare many different frozen treats but was not sure to whixh one the Confederacy was talking about. "I haven't built one myself," Canada confessed, "But I often see others build it, so I'm sure we can figure out what to do."
"I think a different one....it's made using actual snow...that's about all I know..." He's never made it before or seen it being made. He's only heard about it and the snow is all he remembers about it currently. "Okay let's do it." He just smiles. "And if it fails horribly, it can be turned into a snow man!"
Canada nods his asent and starts builing near himself imediatly, "One thing I noticed about all the igloos that i have seen built is you have to build it a layer at a time instead of a wall at a time." He did not know if there was a diffence in how the igloo funtioned if you did not build it properly but did not want it to colaspe on him either way.
"Yeah....cause it's a dome...it needs the other sides to keep it up. Like those card houses." A tilted card keeps the others up. Same thing goes with a dome...except it won't be cards. "I heard actual igloos are warm inside. Dunno how, but that's what I've been told at least."
"At first it will be cold but the longer you stay in it the warmer it will get." Canada informed the Confederacy. "The body heat someone gives off will stay trapped inside the igloo and will heat it up. I'm not sure how it doesn't melt though."
"Yeah...that's what I was thinking. It should melt and then you'd be freezing. You'd be wet AND cold. That would suck, but maybe igloos are magical or something.." He shrugs a bit. "So how do we start making this?" He's never made one or anything...or seen it made.
