Dissidia

I saw a thread on this but it's 9 months old so I'm making a new one.

I got to play Dissidia Duodecim 012 for the first time last month and have been semi-obsessively playing it since. I had already played the original a lot and had leveled my favorites to level 100, and now I'm doing it again. And loving every bit except for the seemingly unfair fights in the story mode sometimes XD

My favorite characters are Terra, Firion, Cloud of Darkness (no not because it's a mostly naked girl), Prishe and Tifa. I also enjoy playing Bartz and Shantoto. Does anyone else still play this? If so who do you like to play?

hyjin 12-29-2011 03:01 PM

O.O im glad some one else has this game... I love the first one and the second. Favorites would be ziddane, cloud, Tidas.

Serra Britt 12-30-2011 02:23 AM

It's one of the few fighting-type games I'm actually good at. Or at least, I can beat the CPU on hard difficulties. I haven't had the pleasure of playing it against a person yet.

I'm okay with Zidane but I have problems with Could and Tidus :/

hyjin 12-30-2011 11:42 AM

Well i like playing as those characters bc there fighting styles are easy for me. i would play online but i cant use my schools wifi with any console that i have... so im stuck using only a pc there to play online unless its wired...

Serra Britt 12-30-2011 11:51 PM

I wish there was an easier way to play online with a PSP. As it stands I'd either have to A)Plug in my PS3 to the router or B)Use my roommate's laptop as I don't have a wireless network card in my system.

hyjin 01-01-2012 06:26 PM

Aww that sucks... i could play on wifi only at home...

Serra Britt 01-04-2012 12:07 AM

Yes it's a big shame but I'm going to try. I really want to play it AGAINST someone someday.

Jurinjo 01-07-2012 03:34 PM

I loved the idea, I like seeing the fight and ....well I would love to play characters from the FF series! But I always get my butt kicked! TT^TT Even with the new roleplaying controls for duodecim I still have a ridiculously high mortality rate for EVERY FUCKING ENCOUNTER. It pisses me of extremely. At least with the first one I got to play with each of the characters a little. This time I'm stuck with lighting. Luna and Yuna are the two I want to play (and no not intentionally chosen to rhyme).

Serra Britt 01-09-2012 11:16 PM

Aww Jurinjo, maybe you can do what I did and do some 1 on 1 fights for a while to get your levels up a bit? I know that it can make a difference on some fights :/

Suzerain of Sheol 01-21-2012 12:46 PM

I just started playing Duodecim (never played the original) and while I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it, I do have a question...

Why can I not beat Golbez?

I've been doing a lot of quick battles to try and learn the system, and I'm up to probably a 90% win rate against anyone else, but for the life of me I cannot even scratch this guy. Does he get a special bonus against Cecil or something? I don't think I've ever even managed to bravery brake him.

Serra Britt 01-22-2012 11:15 PM

Golbez is...in a way unbalanced. He has a lot of quick ranged moves that often strike without warning. I haven't figured out a way to reliably beat him.

hyjin 01-23-2012 04:18 PM

I kind of surprised that they won't let you transfer character levels and items over to the next dissidia... that kind of saddens me a bit.

Serra Britt 01-23-2012 05:49 PM

They let you transfer levels...I just chose not to. It even transferred my unlocked accessory slots. It is a shame about the items though.

NikkoGallarado 01-25-2012 03:49 AM

XP I was the one who made the thread and no one played it then funny how when I get games no one plays them and not that I no longer play it people are playing it. But I do love this game my character is Onion knight he is also on my cosplay list to do.

Serra Britt 01-25-2012 10:43 PM

Onion Knight was one of my friend's favorites, along with Firion. I could never quite get the hang of the little guy though Firion is clearly my best character by a lot.

Suzerain of Sheol 01-27-2012 02:02 AM

Okay, as bad as the writing in this game is... I have to admit, Kain's little exchange with Exdeath,

"You offer you life in exchange for thiers?"
"No. I offer yours."

Was utterly badass.

That is all.

Serra Britt 01-27-2012 02:40 PM

With the story, I view it as I do most crossover games. It's fluff used to explain why everyone is together and is rarely done well enough to make something good without dropping several details of the characters being used.

I agree with you about Kain's line though :p

Suzerain of Sheol 01-27-2012 04:31 PM

It's mostly those weird narration lines between scenes. It's like they've been put through an internet translator or something. The actual dialogue is a bit better (and has some gems like the one I mentioned) but there are still some cringe-inducing moments, or even just really odd word choices.

Serra Britt 01-27-2012 09:27 PM

I admit when I was playing Dissidia I was not fully paying attention to word choices and the like, but some of the stuff they say for the 1-on-1 fights is rather amusing.

Suzerain of Sheol 01-27-2012 09:32 PM

Yeah, I don't really pay attention to those anymore. They're just kind of... there.

Serra Britt 01-27-2012 11:53 PM

I got my main five up to level 100 and then stopped thanks to me going to a level 100 gateway before I had level 100 gear. Even if I am really good there's only so much I can do when I do 15-30 damage compared to their 500-1500 -.-;

Suzerain of Sheol 01-30-2012 09:24 AM

How do you get your characters that high? Do you just have to keep doing random vs. battles, or are there enough story missions to get there?

Serra Britt 01-31-2012 02:02 PM

Oh no, the story will get you to about 45, until the final chapter...in which my first encounter was against a level 80 >.>; So I went to party battles and just fought until I got to 100, using the calendar bonuses to help me.

Suzerain of Sheol 02-18-2012 03:30 PM

Serra, have you beaten the labyrinth yet? I've pretty much stopped playing story until I reach the bottom floor -- is becoming something of an obsession. I got to 60 or so but took a wrong turn and had to leave. Now I'm having a hard time getting back in deeper, every time I end up hitting a door that I can't open and needing to restart.

At least the battles haven't been too bad so far. I use Cecil, he's level 67 now and with the Dark set of equipment that drops on the first few floors, he tends to wreck everything I come across. If I could just get some of those stupid doors to open. >_>

I really should level up at least one other person to serve as a backup on the deeper floors...

Serra Britt 02-19-2012 12:11 AM

No, I got obsessed with the main story and haven't done much labyrinth. Firion is great for it but I rarely get any kind of good equips to put on him :/

Suzerain of Sheol 02-19-2012 12:27 AM

It's a really fun (if frustrating) mode, I find. The whole starting-from-scratch each time an interesting challenge, though with Cecil it's pretty easy since they hand out the Darkness gear like candy. +20% to all wall rush damage on a set of fairly decent equipment comes in handy. ;) Is enough to carry through to get better gear, as long as I can open the stupid doors. >_>

Serra Britt 02-20-2012 09:31 PM

It is fun, but I really miss the mode the original had that this replaced. It was the same thing except you didn't start from scratch, and was a good way to get trade items for the good equips.

Cecil probably would be good to play as because of what you say, but I'm really good with Firion, even when I'm undergeared. I should really give it a try again.

Suzerain of Sheol 02-20-2012 09:54 PM

Well, I'm on floor 70-something now, but Cecil just died, all I have left is Kain with low health (level 25ish) and Yuna (level 30ish) neither of whom I'm anywhere near as good with.

I hate when the computer uses the "keep hitting him with HP attacks because he's owning me in bravery" strategy. I always save up my brave until I can 1HKO them, sometimes backfires, though.

Serra Britt 02-20-2012 09:56 PM

Since Firion chains HP attacks to the end of his bravery attacks I usually just use them as is. It also depends on their boosters, if they have a lot of full HP boosters I definitely tag their HP as soon as possible.

Suzerain of Sheol 02-20-2012 10:00 PM

Ah, right, that would be the exception.

Out of curiosity, how strong is level 100 equipment? I can't tell what the stuff I'm picking up because everything is level 1 in the labyrinth. Some of it's pretty good, though. Of course, the enemies always seem to have better gear...

Serra Britt 02-20-2012 10:03 PM

That's a good question because I don't HAVE any level 100 equipment except for two items I got in Chapter 000, and they seem pretty low end. I'd probably have to go look at stats to find out for sure really. I have all sorts of level 100 stuff in the shop that's completely unavailable to me because I can't seem to get elixirs anywhere.

Suzerain of Sheol 02-20-2012 10:10 PM

Oh, that's what elixirs are for? :p

I keep picking them up in the labyrinth, but I guess I don't have the other ingredients yet. I'm trying to figure out if the trade-off is worth it for those weapons that give +X% initial bravery, as opposed to weapons with just higher attack. I tend to err on the side of the extra bravery, but I'm not sure if that's in my best interest.

Serra Britt 02-20-2012 10:16 PM

Well, you trade the elixirs for other items that are then traded for gear. Do you actually get to keep stuff from the labyrinth though? Otherwise I'm not sure what the shop is used for there. By the time you have enough to buy something is it worth it anymore?

Suzerain of Sheol 02-20-2012 10:21 PM

The shop is for getting items to help you go through the labyrinth. Certain items can be kept (they have a cave icon next to them), and there are 4 unique level 100 item sets that only be gotten in there.

Serra Britt 02-20-2012 10:28 PM

Alright, that's what I thought. Sounds like a lot of work to get them but would probably be rather fun too.

Suzerain of Sheol 02-20-2012 10:34 PM

Yeah, it's fun, sort of in the way (this is really reaching, but,) of the quest mode in Ergheiz... tertiary to the main game, but possibly more fun. :p

Serra Britt 02-20-2012 10:35 PM

Maybe a little like Tobal's quest mode too. I can certainly sort of see the similarities XD
