Disgaea 4
Has anyone played this? I got it for Christmas, am going to start playing it today. I imagine it'll last me until the end of my winter break. :p
From what I've heard, it's supposed be more of the same, just with better graphics and refined mechanics. Not to mention having nearly every character from the entire series available as DLC, or so I heard. *goes to play* :D |
I need a ps3 .. i wants that game D;
|
Well, maybe they'll end up porting it to one of the handhelds. ^_^
Also... 925 MB update before I can play? o_O |
I hope so.. though Disgaea 3 didn't get put on the psp as far as I know ;o;
I have Disgaea 2 though |
Mm, yeah, the PS3 games might be too much for the PSP to handle.
Also, this game is awesome! :D I just love the way it rewards any amount of playtime you put into it. You always feel like your guys have improved even after just half an hour of messing around in the item world or something. Makes it rather addicting. :p |
jelly ono
who are the main characters x3 dk must know |
So far, I have Valvatorez, a former vampire tyrant who lost his powers in a promise he made long ago (he has a thing about not breaking promises...) and is obsessed with sardines, believing they'll give him back his powers. Fights with either spears or swords.
Then there's Fenrich, his werewolf steward and second in command, who is just an all around snarky badass, but he seems to have a hidden agenda of some kind. He uses fists or axes. And, the main antagonist so far is some girl who failed to become a prinny when she died, is convinced she isn't dead and is instead dreaming, and wants to exterminate prinnies for some reason. Her name is just ???? at the moment. |
Ah so none of the reoccurring characters yet.. =(
|
Axel just showed up... he's apparently the jailer of Hades now. >_>
|
OMG Axel! I .. found him ANNOYING in 2 x'D but he was still funny <3 the poor thing
|
I really do want this game, even though I can't possible put the time into it right now. I am such a huge Disgaea addict it's not even funny, I have invested at LEAST 300 hours into each of the first three.
I thought I saw some familiar people on the cover, maybe I was mistaken? |
It's my favorite out of the series so far. Absolutely amazing. The whole thing is just so wonderfully streamlined. The story is original, too, and flat-out hilarious at times.
Only recurring character so far has been Axel, who at the moment has spread a virus that is turning everyone in Hades into clones of him. >_> |
Sounds like an Axel-y thing to do. The storyline always makes me laugh in Disgaea, it's what first pulled me into it.
|
My favorite aspect is how the 4th wall just doesn't exist. One of the story characters has the class "Supposed Final Boss". How awesome is that? :p
|
Yes, that's one of the best parts of Disgaea I think. Like how many of the class names in the third one got screwed around with for storyline purposes :3
|
One thing I do like about this story is that the demons really do act demonic. They say and do really awful things without even thinking about it. The story is simultaneously absurd and more grounded than it's ever been. And Fenrich, the Etna of this game, is a cold, cold character. Manipulates people into getting themselves killed like it's nothing.
|
And yet the game somehow involves the throwing of wee mechanical penguins?
|
They're not mechanical! It's the concentrated evilness that makes them go boom!
And, yeah, it's kind of surreal like that. :p Mood whiplash, I think, is the trope for it? |
I coud have sworn I was talking to DK for a sec there, Sheol. :p
And yeah, I think there is a trope for it. |
You saw nothing!
Also, I haven't played Disgaea since early this morning. That's how much I like Trisphee, can break my addiction to this game. :p |
Maybe trisphee needs a prinny invasion? New event, rid tris of Prinnys! Click them to explode them when you find them, occasonally vintage bundles pop out!
|
Brilliant!
...too bad you can't play these games, by the way, I think you'd rather enjoy them. :p Well, I suppose you could get the first one on the DS. |
Has laharl appeared in the game yet? ono
|
Nope. He probably won't show until the postgame, though I'm sure recruiting him will lead to some amusing scenes.
I kind of like it that way, since he really shouldn't appear in the maingame given that he's so powerful. Well, unless it's like in D2 where he was like level 700 when your guys were 50 or so. Apparently Zetta from Makai Kingdom is the super boss this time, stronger even than Pringer X, though there's apparently a special Baal DLC... So far, my favorite character is Valvatorez, the main. I don't if he's naturally really strong or I just baby him with awesome gear because he's the main character, but he could probably solo the rest of my party. They're in their early 60s, he's nearly 90 right now. |
I wanna play Laharl ono
|
I'm not even sure if I'm going to have room for him in my party once I get him. Luckily, leveling to uber levels is EVEN EASIER in this game thanks to a duping trick that lets you clone your perfect items once you make them, so I can probably level up all of the special characters once I make a set of maxed Testaments that have 8 x 300 Statisticians in each. :D
|
I hate the item world honestly ono
|
I don't like how using it, at all, during the maingame makes you so overpowered. I have gone into *1* item so far, and now none of the enemies can even scratch me after all the neat gear and levels I gained in there. >_>
|
o.O that doesn't sound like the item world i'm used to..
it takes forever for my characters to level in a world around their levels >< (disgaia 2 ps2/psp) |
Hmm, well, what I did was go inside one of the armor pieces from the store that was the highest rank at the time, so the enemies started off at roughly my level at the time, and were up to over level 100 by the time I had to leave. I was somehow taking them on, even though I was only in the 30s, 40s back then.
Though, they did add a *ton* of stuff to the item world in 3 and now 4 to make it less boring. Random things are always popping out of nowhere to keep you on your toes. Mystery rooms are my favorite, especially the vendor who sells legendary gear. I might have had a ton of HL saved up when I found him. :D |
I need to get a PS3 >x<
|
Adding spice to the item worlds is always fun since that's the main place to level up. Crazy/random things happening makes it fun!
As for them being actually evil, that's somewhat of a change. Etna was really the closest thing before and even then she was more of a "I'm evil because it's fun" kind of person. |
She was always like that really xD in the anime and in game 2
Oh and in the Disgaea Infinate or what ever it was xD |
It's interesting, Valvatorex is so... eccentric and removed from reality, he does pretty nasty things and doesn't even think about it. Has a very odd way of seeing the world.
I think the trope is Comedic Sociopathy. :p |
I think I remember seeing Disgea for DS in the store. How is it compared to the rest of them? Or as a game on it's own. I'm lacking in DS games right now. Wouldn't be so bad if I could get past crab boss in Castlevania.
|
It's basically a remake of the original with some extras, and is a lovely game Quiet. I recommend it highly :3
|
I can't remember if it came out before the PSP version or not, or has it's extras, but it's rather awesome. Not as complicated as 4 would be if you just dove in, either.
|
It was after the PSP one and has stuff in it the PSP one didn't. I had a friend tell me about the bonus fights :p
|
So... I'm in the final episode now, and I just realized... this game is incredibly easy. I haven't even come close to getting a game over the entire time I've been playing.
I think what it is, is that they've introduced so, so many elements for boosting your team's performance, then when you stack them all together, the enemies just don't stand a chance. Put it this way. The average enemy now is level 80. My Valvatorez is level 200. Every time he kills an enemy, he adds 10% of their stats to his own for the duration of the battle. He also gets a +10% bonus to everything, on top of that, for each enemy he kills. Then, I can bring out Vulcanus, one of the other characters, who gives him another +20% boost whenever she's adjacent to him. *THEN* I can magichange Desco with him to boost all of his stats even more, and give him an Evilty that gives him *another* 20% boost for each adjacent ally... you get my point. :p There are still systems I don't even take advantage of. Anyway, I'm hoping the postgame provides more of a challenge. |
Sometimes it's fun to whipe the floor with your enemies though. Of course, it's more satisfying if they were tough to begin with. Revenge! *smear*
