Crohn's Disease or IBD anyone?
Anyone else suffering from Crohn's Disease or another Irratable Bowel Syndrome (IBD)? I was diagnosed in 2008 and the inflammation was so bad I was in the hospital for week and on a liquid diet for a month.
I'm just curious if there are any others here on Trisphee who suffer from it. How do you cope? How often do you get Flare Ups? Has your IBD prevented you from working? How does it effect your family and loved ones? I'd love to find someone close to my age (26) to discuss Crohn's Disease and IBd with. |
Well I dont have it myself but my mum does, and I am showing some symptoms but I just think thats diet related. And yes it really does affect our whole family because I have to cook separate meals for my mother most of the time :s
aw sorry you mum has it! My fiance's mom has Divertiticulitis. her intestines get infected a lot. i thank god i do not have that. i help her cook and clean a lot. i hope your symptoms are only dietary. it would suck if you and you mum both had it. my fiance may have what his mom has. we're quite worried about it.
my dad is a diabetic so i prepare meals for everyone(except mum)that adheres to his dietetic requirements. So in my case i guess its not a dietry thing its probably more of an indigestion thing ><
lol. my father in law is diabetic too. he's hispanic though so he eats a crapload of bean lol. so we all usually eat seperate meals.
My sister has Crohns! (Maybe I can get here to join here?!) I have lupus. Which is kinda of ironic because I love wolves.
oh that would be cool if you could! oh and Lupus! I'm sorry to hear that you have that! How long ago were you diagnosed may I ask?
I was diagnosed when I was 16 years old, the youngest case my doctor had ever had. At the time, I was the third youngest to ever be diagnosed in my area - something like that. But that was years ago, so I guess not anymore.
I was told I have IBD. All the doctor told me was not to eat seeds. I usually don't have much trouble, except for knowing that I need to get home right after I eat out.
@ Faux Real: wow at 16? That must've been hard to deal with! You're very brave about it! Now I don't know much about Lupus but I know it's painful and that there are different types.
@Red Calypso: If your doctor told you only not to eat nuts then you don't have IBD which is Irratable Bowel DISEASE you more likely have Irratable Bowel SYNDROME they may sound the same but are VERY different. One is a disease that needs to be medicated and one is a recurring irritation where you must watch what you eat. I have to take 8 pills a day (2 years ago I was taking 22 pills a day!) I also can't be around anyone who is sick as I am on Immuno Suppresors. And if I overowrk myself or get too stressed I get sick for days afterwards. I was up last night for most of the night throwing up and going to the bathroom. IBS is a bit easier to cope with, but it is still rather painful. |
You're right, it's syndrome, not disease. It's not so much painful as extremely inconvenient and if I'm not careful, damned embarrassing. Which is why I plan carefully before I go out to eat to make sure I can get right home.
yeah IBD is PAINFUL! I work for Petsmart in their Grooming Salon. I'm only part time but some days when a dog kicks me in the stomach... OMG it hurts! I'm on a low fiber diet at the moment and it sucks. I love Broccoli and salad! And I haven't had corn or popcorn in almost 5 years! i love corn dangit! Some times after eating it feels like there's a claw scraping through my intestine. I often have to pull over at a gas station to go to the bathroom. andat work I go at least twice in my 5 hour shift. Luckily the girls I work with ar sweet and help me out when I'm sick.
Ouch! I'm sorry you have such a painful disease, but now I'm very thankful I have the milder syndrome. Like you, I love broccoli and popcorn and I'd hate to have to give them up. *hugs* I hope someday they can find a cure for IBD!
I' just thankful that I don't take so many meds anymore! I'm down to 4 anti inflammatories a day 3 immuno suppressors and 1 multi vitamin. I used to take 12 anti inflammatories 8 steroids (prednisone) 6 immuno suppresors and 4 vitamins. It sucked! The steroids made me balloon up and gain almost 100 pounds! I'm still not down to my original weight of 135 but I'm finally down to 190 I wasso happy to be at that weight!
*hugs* I bet you can get there! Heheh, I remember a side effect from the time I had to take steroids: FACE HAIR! God, I was glad to get off those. I don't even remember now what the problem was that I had to take them for.
I hated being on medications that gave me facial hair. I look manly enough as it is and they wanted me to take a blood pressure medicine that fixed the blood pressure and gave me a beard. *um* HELL TO THE NO! Stupid doctors. Why is a 19 year old girl going to want to have a mustache. That is not even funny. Although, I probably would have had fun if I had joined a circus!
lol Fauxreal you're funny! I didn't get facial hair. thank God. I'm mostly Natiive American and I don't grow hair very fast. I shave my armpits every 2 weeks and my legs like once a month. Even the hair on my head doesn't grow as fast as others.
Well, usually it takes forever for my hair to grow - its just on meds that things get out of control!
I get a few little annoying chin hairs but that's it. So how are you toay Faux Real?by the way your username is awesome. could i add you as a friend?
I'm doing well TurtleSensei! And of course you can add me as a friend! <3
My sister is doing well with her illness as well. Also soon I'll be opening a hangout thread for people who are sick, I'll send you an invite when it's finished! |

I'm having a huge problem digesting alot of foods. It's getting as bad as my mom which she can't eat pretty much anything now. She has major restrictions. And to me the hardest thing she has to be careful with is wheat, which is in alot of foods. I can handle the fact I can't be near citrus acids. I'd of seen a doctor already but my husband is trying to get back into work again and he's in the process of starting to work for a new trucking company so I have to wait for about a month until he will be back home to get in to see someone. And since he's trying to get a note from a doctor to start work again I can't set up an appointment yet ~_~ »·,´·˙(´·˙¸ ¸˙·,)˙·,´•·˙·,¯´·˙·• •·˙·,¯´·˙·•╭☆╯•·.·´¯`·.·• •·.·´¯`·.·•´`·.(`·.¸ ¸.·´).·´`·» uǝʇʇoƃɹoɟ puoʎǝq sı ɔıƃɐɯ ɟo ǝʌol ǝɥʇ |
@ Fauxreal:oh that'd be an awesome group! And I'm glad that you and your sister are feeling well!
@ Saiyori: Aw that sucks if you may have it. Where do you live may I ask? I might be able to help you find a specialist. I go to one at OHSU (Oregon Health and Sciences University). I hope that you find out what it is soon! |

I wish I could find a doctor right now but now there is a chance my husband can get back into his job by the end of next week. Just have to wait and find out tomorrow. Then maybe I can get a appointment before he has to leave. Because my allergies are getting way worse. Can't eat alot of foods and now I can't even have citrus acid because I have a rash on my stomach that is spreading ~_~ Damn body wash LOL. He Saiyuri. I would google specialty doctors. but it may not be a stomach issue. I work with has allergies to Sulphates and Nitrates. She throws up if she eats foods containing either and breaks out in a rash if she comes into contact with them. We wrk for Petsmart in the Grooming Salon and some of the shampoos we have to use make that poor girl break out. And she can't take Benadryl! I have allergies to Sulphates too. We try as best we can to avoid the shampoos that have that in it lol. But I would check with an Allergist first and foremost and then see a Gastroenterolgist afterwards if it's not the case.

I'm allergic to Penicillin.
I have SUPER bad Eczema so penecillin maes me itchy. amoxacillin is worse. i'm allergic to orages peaches carrots seafood and probably more i don' even know about lol. the only type of fish i can eat is tuna. so the doctors know tha it's not mercury that i'm allergic to. worst thing is my grandma gloria makes the best Sea Food Gumbo! that is how i found out about my seafood allergy. i've always hated sea food so i never ate it. when i was 16 grandma gloria came to vist for thanksgiving. she made sea food gumbo. i got so sick i was in bed for 3 days. i don't swell up like most people. i get burning in my stomach and i throw up and get diarreah. my poor grandma felt horrible that i got sick. cause when i said that i didn't like sea food she mademe try it. i'm thankful that i finally founnd out! and that crab and shrimp were so GOOD! Ah I also am allergic to MSG so I have to be super careful going out to eat.

Oh my goodness! Turtle, what aren't you allergic too?!
uhm... my diet mainly consists of tuna, taco chips, chicken, french fries, salad on occasion (i ca't eat too much fiber but I LOVE me some salad!) a lets see... also I eat bananas and pineapple alot. Also cheese (i'm lactose intolerant though so i can't eat nearly as much cheese as i'd like to) aso yogurt, grapes ( i gotta be careful of those too though. the skin is hard for me to digest) ah i can't eat corn though. it makes me so sad. i friggin love corn! lol i eat other stuff but just not as often as what i listed. some stuff is just too rich or fibrous for my tummy.
As far as I know, I am quite healthy through it is known that cancer and diabetes do run on my father's side of the family, not sure if it only affects the males or not.
I do know I have inherited getting cysts from someone in my family, but which side, unknown. |
Why couldn't I inherit - like - a million dollars? Nope - I get sickness stuff.
My mom has Ulcerative COlitis. SO yeah I know. Why can't we inherit money instead of illness?! I like to think that God is testing my self control. lol I've been SOOO tempted to eat corn and popcorn! I haven't had either in 4 1/2 years!
Recently my blood pressure has been wacked out so I have to watch what I eat... low or no salt.
@Fauxreal: Really? That sucks! I love salty foods! I probably eat too much salt lol.
Recently I keep getting recurring Yeast Infections and Urinary Tract Infections. I am hoping thst it's just cause of my Immuno Suppresing drugs that I am on. But I plan to ask ways to prevent them on my next doc visit. I've ALWAYS suffered a Low Immune System so got ear infections and UTI's a LOT as a kid. Does your sis have any issues like this? Most women with Crohn's don't like to talk about it. I wish more would though. So I'd at least know if it were normal. |
