Alternative Lifestyle choices.

I didn't see any real thread about this so I thought I would start one.

My boyfriend and I live in the south. Anyone who doesn't fit the norm is heavily frowned upon and while it doesn't bother me I often find the kids at the high school I used to volunteer at (Marching band help XD)struggle with being mis-treated and judged by the people around them.

A better description of myself. 11 piercings currently, black and purple hair. My favorite animal and symbol is the bat and I have a few bat tattoos and a ton I plan on getting. I dress well but almost everything I wear is black and I tend to lean towards eccentric gothy jewelry. I am a plus size model for a gothy pin up type of store.

That should help explain what I mean?

anyways...I was raised by my mother who was "gothic" until I was 10 and the majority of my family on both sides are pagan (neo-polytheistic for the most part). I am used to the sideways glances and etc and I just brush them off.

I suppose this thread is for anyone who loves this style to come and be reminded that they are awesome, or anyone who is having trouble being themselves to come be themselves with people who will appreciate it!

I also just wanted to announce my availability to talk to anyone who needs to feel a little spooky love nip.

I have seen some remarkably spooky avi's so I imagine there are quite a few of you beautiful people lurking about here and there!

I like having an alternative style, like some days at school. Actually there was ONE day one spirit week day that I loved and it was dress neon and crazy hair. I woke up late so I didn't have time to do crazy hair, but I did half dress in my neon rave outfit. The looks I got from people were funny as hell. I shrugged it off cause it was something I liked to dress up in.

I would LOVE to wear more black and neon clothes, I would dress like that wherever I go if I had the choice. The think about black is, it absorbs heat, wearing neon jewelry will annoy me in the heat. Florida is really humid, rainy and HOT. Just plain out HOT. So I choose not to dress crazy cause of the environment ._.

Suzerain of Sheol 04-12-2012 01:55 PM

I don't... own any non-black clothing. >_>

I used to wear a trench coat, but I eventually got sick of security guards staring at me. :p

But, yeah, I wear lots of typically "gothic" clothing, I'm rather fond of Demonia boots. I'd paint my nails black, but the last time I tried that my dad threatened to evict me. :p

I used to dye my hair black, but the medication I'm on now makes my hair very prone to breaking and falling out, so I stopped out of not wanting to damage it.

MayChan 04-12-2012 04:59 PM

I slightly understand why trench coats get looks x.x only cause I do the same, I feel bad but I do honestly. I have a friend who wears one, but he's really friendly.

I don't understand why people go so far as to how people dress. Like your dad almost evicting you for black nails? Wut? Why I don't understand .-.

Suzerain of Sheol 04-12-2012 05:12 PM

Well, he doesn't approve of long hair, pendants, gloves, rings on every finger, multiple wristbands, etc, either, but it's the nail polish that's the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. :p

MayChan 04-12-2012 05:19 PM

Was he afraid or something? xD my mom gives me weird looks when I dress all neon but she doesn't stop me. Then again neon isn't really bad?

Suzerain of Sheol 04-12-2012 05:21 PM

Well, he's relatively, um, traditional when it comes to such things.

Does it make it clearer if I note that I'm male?

MayChan 04-12-2012 05:23 PM

Nu nu I understand, (I assumed you were a male >-<) I can see how traditional can cause the conflict, that's how my mom is.

She didn't like it that I asked my boyfriend out or my sister asked her boyfriend out. etc etc all that lady stuff.

Espy 04-12-2012 05:24 PM

-thinks about a certain all-black-plus-silver outfit some time ago-

It's not even close to being eccentric in terms of what normal people wear, but my school's pretty conservative, so...

...yeah, my counselor raised an eyebrow and called it "edgy".

Suze, in my school, guys can't grow out their hair past a polo shirt collar >.>

MayChan 04-12-2012 05:27 PM

Why no grow hair out pass collar? O.o

also I like your little ragnarok character in your siggy, makes me miss RO sometimes.

Suzerain of Sheol 04-12-2012 05:29 PM

I'm guessing a private school with all sorts of pretentious regulations and a tuition to match.

How close am I, Espy? :p

Espy 04-12-2012 05:35 PM

A Catholic private school with all sorts of pretentious regulations and a tuition to match.

EDIT: Just realized I'm wearing the same shirt and pants, minus the accessories.

Syari 04-13-2012 07:21 AM

I can't believe how closed mind some people are. Who cares what people want to wear? If it makes them comfortable, and they want to wear it, then let them ; ___ ;
My Mum is getting used to me doing more of what I want to do - but certain things she puts her foot down on; e.g. I'm not allowed to dye my hair blue (which is dumb, because she's letting me dye in lilac later trololol) and I'm not allowed to get my lip pierced, yet I'm allowed to get my nose pierced. She's weird on really silly things like that. She gets upset when I wear too much black or grey, or don't buy enough colours.
But then she's a lot more accepting than most parents, soo I'm not too concerned. o.o

@Espy;
Oh god, Catholic schools. *shudder*

Hex 04-14-2012 12:41 AM

-sneaks back into her own thread- been in a relatively bad mood/ not feeling well sorry for the mia.

My grandmother can't STAND the way I dress...she does however love that I get 250 dollars to get my picture taken and then get to keep the clothes...even though she hates them.

I try to tell the kids I work with all the time to remember to remind their parents that just because they think all black trench coats etc... are beautiful doesn't mean that they can't appreciate a good joke, or the beauty in a daisy.

I guess I have learned to love close minded people the same way some people love their stubborn mean dog XD

Espy 04-14-2012 12:55 AM

TBH, I'd wear a black trenchcoat...or any dark-colored trechcoat...if my height'd permit it. I've always wanted a trenchcoat. -sobs-

MayChan 04-14-2012 12:56 AM

It's too hot for a trenchcoat for me x.x

Espy 04-14-2012 12:58 AM

...Screw the weather. I'm gonna have to steal Suze's not-worn trenchcoat...although I'm sure he's way, way taller than me.

Actually, my friends kind of forced me into another friend's trenchcoat. That was interesting...I looked rather like Xion from KH.

Serra Britt 04-14-2012 12:58 AM

When I was younger (when I and others thought I was a boy) I'd still play with dolls and wear fingernail polish. Stopped for a while thanks to peer pressure but of course now I live as a girl so...I really can't accept that people don't want to see that everyone has different wants and desires. Of course rejection by family makes things the worst :/

Suzerain of Sheol 04-14-2012 12:58 AM

Why not get like a 3/4s coat then, Espy?

Or was that just hypothetical musing? :p

MayChan 04-14-2012 01:01 AM

As much as I want to screw the weather, Humidity, Rain and just plain heat wouldn't do for me ._.

Serra Britt 04-14-2012 01:01 AM

I think Espy would look great in a trenchcoat. Just saying.

I'd say that a lot of people are too concerned with appearances.

Edit: Aww, sorry to hear that MayChan. Weather interferes with methods of dress too much sometimes.

Espy 04-14-2012 01:03 AM

Because I already have one that my mom bought for me and that I absolutely refuse to wear until I go to Carnegie because...uh...

...

Have you seen the fit on women's coats?! -hurls- Auuuugh. Why can't I just get straight, not-sightly-form-fitting clothes? -growls- I'd much, MUCH rather wear a guy's dress shirt than a girl's; not everyone has boobs that fill the whole damn shirt.

MayChan 04-14-2012 01:05 AM

I use to wear tomboyish jeans all the time, then the heat was getting to me and I was like screw it -shorts- .-. xD

Espy 04-14-2012 01:07 AM

I rarely ever wear shorts. When I do, it's baggy knee-length shorts plus a black short-sleeved hoodie.

...Those shorts are actually from my highschool and not supposed to be loose and baggy.

Serra Britt 04-14-2012 01:10 AM

Oh yes Espy... -glares at form fitted shirts-

While they look nice if your form matches it, otherwise it just looks silly. I have one shirt that was given to me that I can't wear because my torso is too long...and the tighter part that's supposed to go under the breasts is about in the middle of mine x.x

Espy 04-14-2012 01:19 AM

On my usual summer days, I'm wearing long black pants and a baggy t-shirt, most likely my AC shirt.

Echo-chan713 04-14-2012 10:09 AM

I love having an alternative lifestyle. It makes me unique and who I am whether it's personality or the look on the outside.

I'm an anime lover I buy the stuff that people goes "why?" like my anime badges and artworks people have made for me. I go to cons as a hangout way where I can meet my friends instead of going to the mall.

When I go to work I always have my "My little pony: friendship is Magic" Rarity badge on my panic button and kids love it. I'm known in my workplace and costumers in my store as me having blood red hair and I love it (other than the bleeding part in the shower).

sorry for my Alternative lifestyle rant *slowly walks away in embarrassment*

Hex 04-14-2012 12:28 PM

Echo-chan you are a brave soul for keeping the blood red hair. I had fire engine red for 4 or 5 months and to this day my bathtub still has red spots (I even used color removers and bleach QQ).

and on the clothing discussion: me in shorts. uhg. eeewe. thay make me so uncomfortable. and I have the Opposite problems with shirts Espy...I would wear a large but the melons stretch my shirts out to almost a XXL I have to get any shirt that doesn't stretch tailored. It is really dumb.

And when it comes to weather. I am petrified of the sun. It fatigues me really bad (I have various blood problems that I don't want to go into detail about) but the sun on my skin practically maked my blood boil. but thats ok the boyfriend buys me parcels owo

Jurinjo 04-14-2012 12:41 PM

Parcels are awesome! I couldn't pull one off but for fun I'd like to stroll downtown with one hehe

I'm not brave enough to do alternative stuff like the gothic style, which I think looks cool. Actually not brave enough for a lot of things. I grew up pretty conservative and even though the household is no longer so traditionally strict I'm stuck in those ways pretty much. At least when I have kids (maybe) I'll be understanding...I hope.
