i was thinking about going to see it. but i don't really have money to watch it. Do you think i should just watch for it to come out on DVD?

I loved it. I enjoy most disney movies when the plot is not teenage love but in fact parental bonding. Its up there with finding nemo, the incredibles and the goofy movie for me.

I sorta laugh that for ever Disney was killin' off the moms, and now pixar is making it a point to make sure she's there in the thick of things.

XD they actually did that to save animation cost. Old disney movies were hand drawn, versus cgi which takes less time to render and is less expensive to make since the computer does a lot of the work.

I'm not talking about the cost of drawing out a character, I'm talking about the story's flat out either NOT having one, or having her Dead/Gone. And while some stories sorta require the mom be out of the picture(Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the BEast) some would have done fine to have the dad gone and the mom present. It was just that Disney himself sorta had a major issue with women/moms. I mean, in all the 'classic' and 'new' disney animation we only have five living disney moms, all the rest are step-mothers or gone in some way. But s'okay, it's an exclusive club to be a disney living mom, lol

And I have to say I looooooved the music in this movie, I've been quite impressed with the last couple pixar sound tracks.

I have to be honest, their last two movies were like that for me, and pixar... well I dunno what they were doing with toy story 3. I did not like Tangled nor did I like the Princess and the frog.

Don't think it is out here yet but my mom has already said she wants to see it.

I wasn't crazy on the Princess and the Frog either and I'm a huge fan of frogs. I guess the voodoo and all {another thing I am nuts about} just ruined what was normally a classic story.

I loved Brave and all the parental bonding themes. I had a hard time bonding with my mom as a teenager, I was stubborn and wished she would change and never ever wanted to be like her, so I really related to that side of the story. But now that I'm older, I appreciate my mom a lot more. Being married and knowing I'll have kids someday, I really want to have a good relationship with them. So I related a lot to the mom as well.

I didn't think it was all too predictable. But it's also a children's movie, so they have to make a plot that can keep little minds interested. It was really cute and they spent a lot of time on designs. I guess her hair itself took much longer than anyone else's outfits.

I want to see it.

I liked the movie but it was a disappointment. After they lost the female director - it all went downhill.

sorry, but i will still be giving this a big pass.. as its a rework of brave-heart, though i enjoy brave-heart as a standalone movie its so far from accurate its not even funny so another studios version ..as i say i will avoid it sorry

It wasn't really a rework of Braveheart. Where did you read that?

Most motherless Disney characters didn't have mothers in the original fairy tales.

I have yet to really see it, I hope to see it, but I doubt it will trump my love for tangled. :x

i have it on hold at my library branch. because i didn't have time to go see it in the theater.

I have to wonder about this statement too. The movie has nothing to do with William Wallace or even the English as far as I can tell.

I watched it last night for the first time. I enjoyed it. It was pretty to watch and I liked how it played out early on, which wasn't entirely what I was expecting. I was less keen on the ending since I had pretty much seen it coming early on and it was typically "Disney." It did help that I read the basic story from the colouring book beforehand though. ;)

I do know about the lack of Disney moms. We looked at that in class in second year pop culture English ;). It's not necessarily true that Disney moms in fairy tales weren't there to begin with. The Little Mermaid for example, was radically changed from it's original story line, almost to the point where you can pretty much reverse everything that was said and happened and have it be more accurate. Ariel, who's name was never mentioned, had a dad, yes, but he hardly did anything and is really just mentioned in passing. It was her grandmother that has all the screen time.

It's also entirely possibly that fairy tales Disney used didn't have dad's either ;), but I think the absent mom thing was how they justified needing Prince Charming to show up, since Dad is usually an idiot.

I think Brave showed how Disney is gaining back some nerve after several years of being soft. I think they got really chewed out for being too violent after The Lion King so things have been pretty soft up until the more recent films, starting with Pirates of the Caribbean I've noticed.

I got a bit teary too, I have to admit that. Though I wish Mordu had more of a role to play, or just more screen time. I think that's what disappointed me about the film (not sure if I spelled his name right. Guessing based on what I heard).

I don't like predictable films.. And the artwork kills it for me.

Predictable depends on what people have seen before, to a point.

Not a fan of the animation style?

I think it's the .. poofy hair.

Saw it and really enjoyed it for sure. The Celtic background for it certainly allowed for some interesting lore and story.

That's what I liked about it, the different setting and the accents that is, but I thought that will-o-the-wisps were generally to be avoided.

From general mythos, yeah, they were to be avoided. In some they were the spirits of the departed who wanted to help their kin, so it's not a stretch what they did, just not the normal mythos.

I still need to see this movie. I can't wait till I finally can!
