What is the origin of your user name?

For me,it was really random.I was creating a female Sims in The Sims 3.I had her last name filled in,and was pretty much just racking my brain and staring at her to try and come up with a name. Then I got a random thought: "Dexy." I liked the sound of it,and so that's her name, and then I decided to use it here!

I'm interested in reading the origins of other peoples user names, too!

Ginger 07-01-2012 02:04 PM

My username comes from my hair color and what society refers to me as. I've got the freckles and red hair. If I didn't have freckles I would be a redhead. Legit? I think yes. Plus, ginger sounds soft and sweet.

Dexy 07-01-2012 06:54 PM

Oh,that's cool.Ginger is soft and sweet. :D

Tiva 07-01-2012 07:49 PM

Tiva means Dance in Hopi. I am part native american, I also took dance for 10 years. Though I pronounce it Tiv-a not Ti-va because of how it rolled off with what else great aunt called me.
Aponi Tiva - Butterfly Dance
I dropped Aponi around 16 and just used Tiva.

NikkoGallarado 07-01-2012 08:46 PM

Oh my my user name ha ha ha, well there happens to be this boy back in high school, I really really really liked, but he was dick and was not into guys but I happen to like his name, so what I did was make an oc based by his name and I had it since then. XD I know its odd but he had such a different name from most people that I have seen.

I am the manry-est of men!

Nightmare 07-01-2012 10:26 PM

Mine came about from Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold.
It's been my one of my favorite songs for a while,
and it's been a username I've always wanted to use.
.. That and my friends think I can be a nightmare,
or cause nightmares. xD

Espy 07-01-2012 10:50 PM

Espada. My bestie made an OC named Aga, which means sword in some other language (I've forgotten which), soooo my new OC became Espada del Tempestad. Espy for short.

(I'm still Espy Storm on Facebook >.>)

It's become my...main alias.

Azrael 07-01-2012 11:03 PM

o3o Usually I went by Aijou, which was an old OC of mine

But... when I made my name I wanted to get away from that, and I was obsessed with Blue Bloods (books) at the time. And I liked the sound of Azrael as it was... so that's what I used. Nothing deep >3<

My mule is Fish... cause I love fish O3o

Ashy 07-01-2012 11:28 PM

is my name, im not very imaginative ><

Ultima 07-01-2012 11:59 PM

Ultima is a very powerful weapon/spell/summon in the Final Fantasy video game series =3

Asami 07-02-2012 12:16 AM

My name was a nickname one of my old best friends gave me before I moved. She told me unwashed always so beautiful in the morning o.o so she said I was her asami. I liked it and when we joined zantarni I asked her what User name I should use and she said asami of course. That was over 4 years ago. ^^

Desmond 07-02-2012 02:01 AM

Way back when I first wanted to join Trisphee I wanted to get away from all my old names that I had used over the years. The various knicknames, pet names, etc.

Well, I had the idea pop into my head about doing Irish. I am so in love with Ireland as I am mostly irish and it's the family history I know most of. Originally I wished to go by Cork, as that's where my Mom's family is from. But that didn't really seem to fit or feel like me so I did a little digging and found that at different points in history it was also known as Desmond. So I went with Desmond. =3

Kali_Namir 07-05-2012 12:32 AM

Long ago when Mugglenet.com had basically a Harry Potter Role Play forum, I needed to create an OC. Soooo...I went to babynames.com and searched for meanings that worked for my OC.

Kali is Hindi for Dark Goddess (the character was a Slytherin with a very dark history), and Namir is Sanskrit for swift cat (she was an animagus, and her form was a black cat). So all together her name means Dark Goddess of the Swift Cats...

So in the end Kali Namir became her name, and I've used it ever since on every site I join...

Serra Britt 07-05-2012 11:33 PM

Back when I played StarCraft a lot, the Zerg was my main race. The leaders of the Zerg were Cerebrates, so I feminized it a little...and came up with Serra Britt.

Suzerain of Sheol 07-06-2012 12:42 AM

I've never used this one on any other site. It's a reference to Abaddon from Revelation, the Angel of the Abyss. Sheol is the ancient Hebrew underworld, predating the conception of heavenly reward for human souls, the spirits of the dead were interred there to await the final judgment at the end of days. It bears some similarities to the Greek Hades and is often substituted for it in biblical translations, just as Gehenom and Tartarus are often interchanged.

...yeah.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-06-2012 01:00 AM

It was my ff.net name. I was leafing through my head for user names and felt poetic for a moment which means I have little chance of explaining it. I felt that "man" rolled off the tongue better than "woman" or "lady." I preferred the 2-1-2 syllable pattern instead of 2-2-2. Then I found DK's trisphee fanfic and read that and said "okay. I'll check this out." I went with the same name so DK could spot me.

Nikko, I just realized now that I've been pronouncing your name wrong for some time. I didn't realise there was a third 'a.' I slurred it to "Galardo."

Desmond: I've been to Cork. :). Your family from the county or the City? My grandfather's family apparently began out in west Ireland, then the famine happened. Thus, Canada.

Daring Scylla 07-06-2012 12:32 PM

mine originates from greek mythology. i've always loved mythology and the scylla is a terrible beast that lives on one side of a very narrow channel, across of from charybdis (a whirlpool)
scylla was rumoured to originally be a beautiful nymph, child of Ceto and Phorcys, turned into a really ugly mmonster by the sorceress Circe. i always liked monsters and the concept of scylla, and did a lot of projects and study on her until i gained the nickname 'scylla' from my chums. when i started heavily using the internet, i just tacked 'daring' in front of it because 'scylla' was more likely to be taken and universal. and because i've always been very outspoken, unafraid to alienate people and in general not giving an eff about anything online. that's meeeee.

hyjin 07-06-2012 03:18 PM

well my user name was just kind of random... i played many online games and this was a common user name i had... that or shinoknight, hdzshino, xiro, or shino... people tell me i took the name shino from naruto... but the thing was that i had it before the series started and i never heard of it...

Trakadon 07-06-2012 05:05 PM

Oh god... I don't really remember. All I know is that I've always used this user name. It who I am online XD

Echo-chan713 07-06-2012 07:39 PM

mines kind of cheesy but it came from Echo Nighttray from Pandora Hearts. I cosplayed her and Nikko found me at NDK and he and his friends calls me Echo than my real name...and the 713 is my birthday July 13

HABIT 07-07-2012 12:10 AM

A character's name from a story I wrote. I borrowed the Massy, spelled exactly like that, from a friend's character, and the last name came out of a want for a rhyming last name to my protagonist, seeing as how he was a sort of doppelganger of my protagonist.

Nexess 07-07-2012 02:31 AM

My name came from an OC of mine, she was made for a fanfic back in the day. I don't think I've used a different name in.... 9 years?

Also, spell it backwards.

Hermes 07-07-2012 08:57 AM

My name is my real life nickname. My buddies on my old track teamed named me this, I was the fastest on the team, and as team captain for a while, had to constantly carry word from coach to team xD

I am the manry-est of men!

Sei 07-07-2012 12:41 PM

Mine name came from one I had on an old site, when it was Seishin No Kibou (spirit of hope in Japanese). Eventually I wanted to shorten it because everyone just called me Sei anyways, but it was taken, so I kept the longer name. Once I came here, I got to shorten it. That's the origin of my name. *nods*

Jae 07-07-2012 06:30 PM

The origin of my name comes from a video game. :'3
Rozalin from Disgaea 2, but I tweaked it bit more to my liking. //Nod nod.

Dawn 07-10-2012 07:48 AM

Well, my name just came to me out of the blue one day and I think I had voodoo dolls on my mind {my mind is very scary.. o.. o I wouldn't never want to meet it in a dark alley} and somehow it went from Voodoo towards Tormented which stuck in my mind so I put Tormented and Doll together to be a bit more creative. :3

Illusion 07-12-2012 11:45 AM

I have always been fond of Mukuro Rokudo from Hitman Reborn and his illusion abilities. That and Illusions in The Elder Scrolls has always been one of my favorite skills ;D

All that said, I just loved the idea of manipulating people's minds to see something else then what's expected. So Illusion as a name to me is that I can be anything I want you to believe.

Daigotsu 07-12-2012 01:37 PM

This past June I went to a formal ball. It was a birthday event for my friend's girlfriend. So I flew to Georgia (I'm in Illinois), and we drove to Florida to attend. We shopped forever for a ball gown for me and stuff to make me look all fancy and junk. Well, at the ball, I was all self conscious because I had never been to a ball nor do I feel super comfortable in gowns. And there were a lot of beautiful women there and junk. I never slow danced officially before and I was super nervous.

So the birthday girl is a huge fan of anime and video games, so all the music was orchestrated versions of popular theme songs from them.

"Lacrimosa" from Black Butler started playing and I squee'd so loudly. One of the guys who sat at our table looked at me and was like: WTF. I explained that it was the ending theme to my favorite anime of the moment. So he asked me to dance.

It's a faster paced waltzing song, so it was difficult, but we OWNED it. We flew around the dance floor kind of magic like and trumped everyone out there. Everyone was watching us in amazement and I felt like a princess.

So I made this name and it registers just... glamorous fantasy. Of course, I prefer the "wrong" spelling of it, but it's still recognized.

Lacrimosa means "weeping", which I definately was during that dance. On the inside. With happiness.

Suzerain of Sheol 07-12-2012 02:51 PM

I don't think I've ever considered the word "lachrymose" in any context other than devastatingly-disconsolate despair before. It just sounds so Romantically bleak. Say it with me, "lachrymose" :p

(Actually, for some reason, the word always brings up the image of Satan weeping under the sun after his Fall in Paradise Lost. Always carried to me that sort of fallen-from-splendor-lordly-inclination-to-tears connotation to me. :p)

Anyway, that was enlightening to learn. :)

Quiet Man Cometh 07-12-2012 05:57 PM

Sheol, I'm pretty sure you could take "lollipops" and find an interpretation of it as the abject failure of humanity. ;)

Lovely story 'Mosa. :)

Matt 07-16-2012 12:31 AM

My real name is Matej, which roughly translates to "Mattie" in American, or Matthew. I'd rather people call me Matt than the former two, so. There we go. ovo...

Rigel 07-16-2012 09:11 PM

Rigel is a star.

Lunaryon 07-22-2012 07:36 PM

I got this name... Oh... I'd say somewhere around ten years ago, back when I was a little kid. I was just discovering the internet (Yes, I didn't discover the internet until I was ten. I had a sheltered homelife) and found my first internet game. I wanted something that spoke of the two greatest forces in the universe, at least what I thought at the time... The sun and the moon. First it was Luna, then Lunar, The Sol- but that was a little more masculine then I like to be- but I couldn't figure ut how to mix the two together. I finally after a LONG time came up with Solerik Moonchild... but that name still felt like a boy's name to me. Then someone bumped into me while I was playing with the words, and my hands accidentally hit some keys, spelling out Lunartyo.
After that, Lunaryon Solborn came into existance. And I've been Luna to my friends ever since.
