Glad you put this up here. The people need to know

Tiva 07-06-2012 07:14 PM

People do need to know... i had to wipe my mom's laptop last month to get rid of it.

Lioshika 07-06-2012 10:55 PM

I used dcwg.org to determine if either my laptop or my mom's would face a problem. It said both of ours was working properly.

I don't think they gave proper notification of it, honestly. I didn't know anything about this until this afternoon when my mom brought the paper home. Not to mention, the news article did not tell you how you could test this at all. Which is most ridiculous!

I think they went about this all the wrong way.

hyjin 07-06-2012 10:57 PM

it did say how to test. it was the first link on the article

Lioshika 07-06-2012 11:02 PM

Hyjin; I was talking about the article in the newspaper. It just said how people would lose internet Monday and how the FBI did this to save us. Pathetic little paper.

hyjin 07-06-2012 11:06 PM

oh sorry thought you meant the online one

Lioshika 07-06-2012 11:08 PM

No. But I haven't even seen anything really online talk about it either.

I wonder why.

hyjin 07-06-2012 11:12 PM

its on some news websites

Lioshika 07-06-2012 11:16 PM

But I would of thought such huge thing would have been given more informational spaces on news channels, sites, papers, etc.

hyjin 07-06-2012 11:24 PM

yeah but i think they wont make it a big deal until it happens

Lioshika 07-06-2012 11:27 PM

Of course not. Then there will be a mass flux for call centers and such. It's going to be a huge pain.

hyjin 07-06-2012 11:33 PM

yeah it will be im just glad my house is clean from that thing

Lioshika 07-06-2012 11:51 PM

As am I.

But I can see where this will become a huge issue, that providers will use to charge people money for the issues to get fixed.

hyjin 07-06-2012 11:55 PM

yep. they will take advantage of that

Lioshika 07-07-2012 12:02 AM

I can see how my provider will now. They'll charge to have someone go out there, charge for replacements, etc. They can be such dicks!

hyjin 07-07-2012 12:04 AM

that they can be

Lioshika 07-07-2012 12:12 AM

Not to mention all the spam, fake things that will start popping up to try and say they can fix it for a "low" fee, and then break it worse.

hyjin 07-07-2012 12:32 AM

yeah i avoid those and fix it myself

Lioshika 07-07-2012 12:52 AM

I try to DIY. Unless it is something serious, then I go to a professional.

Yokuutsu 07-07-2012 04:29 PM

Those websites that test for you can be wrong.

If your ISP reroutes, you'll still get the things saying you're okay and everything. Though if they don't and you still get the a-okay...you're good.

Thank God for Fox News or I wouldn't know about this at all DX

katyasha 07-08-2012 01:25 PM

Well I checked my computer and my moms and it looks like they are ok for now we just have to wait until tomorrow(Monday) to see if it worked or not.

Lioshika 07-09-2012 12:12 AM

It's monday. Mine still work.

Ashy 07-09-2012 01:11 AM

yeah over here we were warned like 2 months ago

hyjin 07-09-2012 08:54 AM

i still have interwebs yay

Yokuutsu 07-10-2012 12:42 AM

Remember, your Internet Service Provider could be rerouting you so the fact that you have internet doesn't mean you aren't infected.

Just saying.

hyjin 07-10-2012 11:06 AM

i was at bestbuy yesterday buying a new laptop and at their tech support i saw so many people inline holding their computers and the ones that were being worked on were being fixed for the dns problem

Lioshika 07-12-2012 02:27 AM

I've got all kinds of firewall crap things going on in my computer so meh.

Our Best Buy around here is pretty crappy, or so I hear. But my store (Staples) isn't much better.
