Final Fantasy
Which FF character do you love? Mine is Genesis
Ashy has slightly commandeered this thread! Now also including favourite FF games :P |
I love Rufus and Reno, I also happen to cosplay as Reno from time to time on site. I am the manry-est of men! |
Reno and Vincent Valentine <3 they are amazing..
|
Haven't played enough FF games to really get and idea. I've only played and watched 9 and Tactics A2 at length, and some of 7 and 13. The rest I know from chat. Right now, I'd probably say Balthier as far as named characters go, (though I get a kick out of Al Cid ;)).
My real favourite is my numou wizard Leamond in my A2 game. ;). Course he's randomly generated and probably doens't count. |
I have no idea who my favorite character is though. Oh I kinda like Beatrix from IX, I like how you fight her a bunch of time but never beat her, and that's cool because everyone say's she ubber strong and mercyless. Oh and she shares a certain particularity with me, so yay for that. I kinda wich she would join the party eventualy, but oh well. Also, that whole part with the love letters with Steiner was pretty hilarious too xD
Buuut for the games, it's pretty easy. III/VI (stupid naming scheme), IX (insert Nein joke) and, oddly enough, X-2. Although, to be honest, I think the story portion of X-2 is utter crap -.- The gameplay is the best in the entire serie for me (And the game can be so broken with an alchemist and 2 dark knight, it's not even funny). Still my number 1 favorite is III/VI, because you can suplex a god damn train WOOOOOO! |

The love letter thing was pretty funny though. I think from 9 I really did like Zidane best as far as leading guys go (Vaan bugs me), though Vivi was cute and I liked the black mage story that had going. I watched my friends mostly play the game but I was the one who got through the card tournament and won all the prizes in the chocobo game. I spend too much time on short, frivolous things. My sister gave me a copy of FF9 for Christmas but I haven't played it. Been ages since I got my consoles out. I'm still remembering characters from that game. |
Actualy, speaking of 9 characters, I'm still confused as if Quina is male or female, because it can equip a female only accessory but I'm pretty sure it was refered as an he somewhere.
As for lead characters... I think my favorite would be Terra from 6, but it's hard to tell in this game because there's no real, main main characters. There are major important characters, but no real main, it's kind of strange in that way. The others main from other FF are kind of m'eh to me. You can't really count 1-2-3 (the actual ones), Cecil from 4 I just couldn't get to like him in any way shape or form, Bartz from 5 is just kind of there, Cloud from 7 I just never even could get in the game and I did try numerous time, Squall from 8 was okay-ish I guess, but I wouldn't say he's my favorite, Zidane was... Actualy, Zidane would be contender for number 2, Tidus from 10 I don't even want to go there, 11 is 11 and 12 I like 7 to me, so screw what's-his'face mini-van I forgot. Oh yeah, and there's 13 too, with is basicaly a female mix of Cloud and Squall (don't ask me how that works). And the -2 games I still haven't played 13-2 even thoush I have it since forever and X-2 I guess I kinda like Yuna, but again, X-2 story was dumb. I love the mini games from X-2 and the side quest. Paine side-quet should have been the real story, I say, THAT was interesting and pretty cool. I love the sphere break game too, way more than the card games from the others game. The gauntlet was pretty fun but I suck at it <.< Also, the thing I love about 9 is that it goes back to the older style, like FF1, in a way. I think a lot of people were put of because of the uber SD character design, and I actualy find it pretty fun to watch personaly. And there's still the awesome music :D Thinking back though, I think I'd change my vote for favorite character to Cloud of Darkness, only because I arbitrarily love her design and she's evil and whatever. And I have a thing for floating characters. |
Lightning is way more complex than most people give her credit for :P
|
Oh are you talking about Cloud's original forum? I am the manry-est of men! |
@Ashy, I don't know I got bored of 13 half way in or something.
@Nikko Hu? |
This thread has an unacceptable lack of Tactics/War of the Lions. :P
I've sworn off FF, but I hold that one apart. It's just on a higher level from the other games, in both story and gameplay (but mostly story <3), in my opinion. I always end up coming back it and getting sucked in. Special shout-out to 6, though. Was my first RPG ever and still one of my favorites. I just never find myself replaying it, for some reason. Kefka is a brilliant villain, though. |
i must agree with suze that 6 is amazing and kefka is by far my favorite villian from the FF's, though FF7 was my first FF and it holds special place in my heart i also liked FF tactics advanced but thats a whole nother story
|
I don't think it's fair to fault Tactics Advance on its own merits as a game, since it's really not that bad. I would be fine with it if it wasn't billed as the sequel to the original. I was just disappointed in the shift in tone -- the setting of War of the Lions is just so rich and mature, I found it really frustrating that they chose to go in the direction they did with the sequel.
|
In the original concept of 7 Cloud and Sephy where to be women. EDIT: Lighting from 13 is Cloud's original look. I am the manry-est of men! |
Tactic advance was supposed to be a sequel to Tactic on PSP? Since when? How? That's totaly new to me.
@Nikko that would explain the long hair. |
Yeah it was crazy but last mini they changed everything and Cloud and Sephy where to be girls and Tifa was really ment to be a boy also. I am the manry-est of men! |
No, the PSP Tactics is a remake of the original PS1 version (1997, I believe). You can imagine the... sentiments when a new Tactics game was announced back in... what was it, 2005?
I can't remember if they called it an official sequel, but... those were naive times, I suppose? :P I don't know, I just don't understand why they choose to go in that direction, or why they haven't made a proper sequel in the last 15 years.... (not counting the Tactics Ogre remake, which... actually does kind of count). |
yes sadly alot changed in the final product of FF7 as it wasnt even finished but as a whole its not a bad game to really understand it you need to play all the side games though which really does suck. But i have to say i loved dirge of cerberus but thats cause i love vincent
|
M'eh Dirge of Cerberus was kind of Okay, but I only really liked it for Shelke, I don't know why. And whatever accent Caith Sith had that was pretty hilariously not fitting.
In other news, I suck royaly bad at Theatrym Final Fantasy. My friend has it, the first time I tried I manage to stay alive for like a minute, and the second time I didn't even last 20 seconds -.- |
My experience with FF7 went as follows: friends are playing. Cut scene when everyone shouts "this is cool!" becuse they have all played it before. Some people I don't know are gathered at some kind of altar, then some guy I don't know but with really cool hair jumps down from somewhere and kills this girl on the altar. He leaves. And I thought "that's pretty cool!" adn then never thought much of the game again, except to once and a while think "I wonder what that game was with the cool cut scene" and that was all.
Oh wait! I remember something else. Was watching a different friend play a game which I now know to be final fantasy and now believe to be 7 because the little man running around was purple and blonde. She was running through this forest thing and I thought "this reminds me of my cousin playing Zelda" and then the screen shifts and there is this little tadpole thing in a robe. It doesn't appear to be doing much but my friend freaks and runs like hell. I learned more about the game when I went on to wikipedia to collect background info on Advent Children which I printed and put in the DVD case. I still have War of the Lions that I snagged fronm EB (on dear Sheol's recommendation of course ;)). I still need to harass my brother for his PSP. He can't recall where he put it. I *do* know where he put it. I should probably get around to mentioning this. I remember seeing the original on PS1. My sister ranted and raved about the ending of FFX (the one with Tidus I think, and the city Zandaken, or however it was spelt). Otherwise I hear it wasn't bad. |

Speaking of ennemy, the malboros are annoying because of course the ennemys that uses status effet work about 90% of the time, but you about 0.90% (if you're lucky.). I hate that. Actualy, the only damn RPG I've seen status effect actualy working is Golden Sun (damn the sleep psynergie can break the game xD). Actualy... status effect kind of work (KIND OF) in 13. As in, debuffs. I WANT TO POISON SHIT DAMIT AND PARALYSE THEM. I don't want 100% but dammit, I'd rather not spend 998 of my 999MP on god damn non-working spell that cost like 3MP. I know the math don't work, don't care. |
Oh it was a tonberry. I know that now but I didn't at the time. I was running from one and it killed off three of my four person party in the process. That was 9 I think. My friend got all of his party taken out before he could flee (different friend). There was much joy when we finally got tough enough to kill them.
|
Reno from FF7 and Vivi from FF9 <3
I liked games Tactics, 7, 8, 9 so far. I tried to play X but.. well.. the friend i was borrowing it from kept telling me what happens next so i quit. |
Sucks when people do that. I don't usually mind so long as the stuff that comes up actually sounds like it would be interesting to see.
|
Playing War of the Lions now. Too early to make opinions yet, except that the AI is doing a spectacular job of being useless.
Whether or not Delita is evil or a decent guy is going to bug me until the end of the game. I know. They did have to start wtih that future cut scene, didn't they? -.- |
It really will bug you right up until the end of the game, and beyond. :P
|
I have some theories about his character. I'll let you know if they turn out to be true.
|
It depends on what game your talking about but Balthier and Vincent Valentine are among my tops!
|
Vincent's shoes bug me. They are hardly practical.
|
I can't pick a favourite. I have least favourites, though. ;~;
But overall? I absolutely adore final fantasy so so much I could cry. |
Omg my favorite character is Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth, And Arieth, but yeah epic ness!
|
Hmm, is it alright if we like non-important characters?
I like Cid from FF6,7,10, and 12.. Kimahri Ronso and Lulu from FF10.. Vivi and Steiner and Freya from FF9.. Zack Fair (actually an awesome character before Cloud swiped all his personality 8i) from FF7.. The Cocktrices from FF12.. Annnd Lady Ashe from FF12.. Favourite parts of each game (which I've played)- FF7 - Horror vibe came with some parts of the game that made the storyline really pop for me. Being able to change who Cloud dated and get attached to was also nice. :P I never was much of an Aerith fan. Also.. Chocobo racing and breeding. <3 Difficult, but when you finally get a Black Chocobo.. Totally worth it. FF9 - I enjoyed getting to know the various characters in the game and pursuing different quests. The card games and things were very much a bonus for me (and sometimes very aggravating). Back then, the graphics were also very well done and I found them impressive when it was newly released. FF10 - The music and scenery and character designs were nice. Liked a few of the backstories of some characters. FF12 - The more in-depth political theme was very intriguing for me. I don't play many games like that but the gameplay really dragged me in. Again, beautiful character designs and MASSIVE history of Ivalice (and the races) was a nice touch that allowed me to immerse myself into the game. I liked being able to move around when fighting was a welcome change (was disturbed when they took it back out in the next game :/). One big drag on all of the games.. Level-up grinding. |
Oh this is easy. <3
Favorite games: FFX/X-2 and XII. Favorite character: Rikku (X-2. I know it's cliche but she's so darn bubbly and cute. I CAN'T HELP IT.D:) and Balthier (XII). He's a sarcastic, sexy bastard and I love him. D: |
My favorite Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy 5. My favorite Final Fantasy character would have to be Yuffie.
|
I would have to say my all time favorite final fantasy game would have to be 8. To me there is something more compelling about the storyline and the way the characters fit together that makes it better to me. It may be because it is the first one I played. I love Irvine and I feel as though ff8 has a bit more humor. I mean whats not to love about a running hotdog gag. Poor Zack. And since Final fantasy to me seems to Recycle characters and personalities by default I some what love 10 as well. Wakka is pretty much the next generation Zack.
That being said my favorite characters are the various scantly clad villians that pop up. I mean I feel like the creators of Final fantasy just say... hmm lets figure out how to make this guy more silly. I don't see how you could take Kuja serious or Seymour when one their hair looks like lightening rods and two they have less clothing to fight with then a bikini babe. Needless to say Sephy started all of this and I love him, at least he had leather. But Kadji is my favorite, him and his lackys. As far as ff7 goes I did not bother to play the sequals, I watched advent children first and then played the game. I felt so horribly gypped with that story that it made me never want to finish it. Yeah it was fun gathering up the items to get the guy to date cloud, it was also fun unlocking the gay scene. However I just don't like Cloud, I don't like Tiffa, I hate yuffie. Vincent has no reason to be in the plot. And the important scene with Aerith just makes me laugh. Maybe I have to play it again for the 3rd time to understand its depth. FF9 was okay. Again the disconnect with the party members made me wonder about the game. Quina seems like a food pokemon trainer, s/he wants to be the very best cook and taste food! Zidane seems like a weak protagonist to me, and so did Garnet. The rest of the characters no matter how much revenge needs to happen, felt like they didn't belong in the story. |
My favorite Final Fantasy has always been 4. I loved it that you began as a "dark" character at first then evolve into someone who uses both the light and dark. Traveling to the moon, dragoons becoming even more awesome because of Kain. Oh and the tragic end of...
Well I'll try and keep myself from spoiling the game, but it's my favorite by far. Oh and funny story, last day of school a month ago. Went next door to my friend's class because they did their testing the day before so they could play super smash bros melee in class all day. He was playing Final Fantasy 7, and I was questioning why he was grinding to level Aerith when she will end up dying in the end. AND HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT SHE DIES! SERIOUSLY!? I felt so bad for spoiling it for him, but HOW THE HELL DO YOU PLAY FINAL FANTASY 7 NOWADAYS WITHOUT KNOWING AERITH DIES? That's kind of one of the most memorable moments in gaming history.. And he's a huge gamer to begin with... o.e.. Sigh.... |
I'm gonna add more than just what I liked!
I hated 8. Okay, I hate Squall (though I like him in Kingdom Hearts...go figure). Though I did like Laguna and the others quite a bit. Selphie was annoying as hell...and Zell? He was in this game right? I both hate and like him. I was more of a like the flashback play person. Loved 9 <3. I love Kuja. He's my favorite...though Sazh does come close with his baby chocobo in 13. But Kuja has a good back story of course I might be confusing canon with fanfiction now. But he was created to destroy the world but he's flawed, a first creation, and so, his "father" Garland makes another to take his place. And through how Garland treated him, he was insane. Very much so. I pitied and sympathized with him. I also liked 10 because of the story. Like I never finished it, but I was talking to someone, and I essentially guessed how Sin came about. They go on the pilgrimage to stop Sin, but all they're doing is making the cycle continue, but they can't know that because no one has really tried to break the cycle. I liked Crisis Core too...it made me cry :p-cry: SO FRIGGIN SAD! D: But yeah, kind of made me like Cloud less (which by default made me dislike Lightning from 13 more-make a female Cloud...that's what they were told to do -.-) Yeah, gonna stop ranting now XD |
Sephiroth, if only for design, I'm a sucker for that stuff.
