I just upgraded to a PS3...
 

DONTJUDGEME. xD;

I only have two games for it, because of the situation I'm in at the moment, and I only have them because they were cheap as hell but.. I now know what I was missing all these years without one.

I've got Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, and Atelier Meruru. Though, I'm thoroughly addicted to Playstation Home. Something about dressing up an avatar.. heehee.

Anywho, am I the only one late to the party? Also, my PSN is xbatterz, if you'd like to add me <3

You're not the only one late to the party, I had a PS2 but never actually got a PS3. I'm actually pretty sad I never upgraded. I'm considering getting a PS4 after the initial prices drop, but its backwards-compatibility is kinda weird. I don't want to pay again to download PS1 and PS2 games I already bought. :c

Thats what I'm worried about, too.

I don't understand WHY they wouldn't make the damn thing backwards compatible. I dont. Have. The. Money. TO REBUY GAMES I OWN.

It would be cool if I could scan the barcode or put in some other unique aspect of the game I own and let the PS4 download it from that, and not let any other PS4 machine claim that code. I can see how it could be abused with borrowed/rented games that don't get claimed though.

I feel like I'm always late to play really cool games, though, because I wait for prices and/or buy them used. Except Pokemon. *O*

I don't think I'll ever get a PS3 to be honest. Not to say it isn't awesome, but I'm an Xbox guy....have been and will be. Did love the PS2 though....still have mine, just need to dust it off and play some for old time's sake.

In all honesty though, Microsoft screwed up big time. They pretty much did what Sony did with the PS3 vs Xbox 360, but worse, because they not only did greedy junk but broke everyone's trust in the process. I think that the PS4 games look just as good or better than the Xbox One games. Even though Microsoft reversed its stance on the bad features, the price tag is still in the favor of Sony.

Only difference is that the PS3 isn't mine, it's my brother's. Lucky for me, he doesn't really play it anymore. :D

*shrugs* Eh, it was the same strategy Sony had planned for the PS4 until Microsoft announced it first and they decided to not make the official release with all those same features. Technically they both should be put to shame by that logic then....

Also, the price for the Xbox One, while higher, is justified by the fact that it is a more versatile and, from what I've read, better utilized system in the space and Operating System.

All in all....I'm interested to see how the "fight" between the two keeps up and what the actual release shows in terms of function, form, interest, etc.

With the PS3, Sony justified the higher price with the fact that it was a better system and could play Blu-Ray discs. Sony got what they wanted with Blu-ray winning over HDDVD, but the console didn't do nearly as well as the Xbox.

To contrast, this year when Sony initially announced/revealed the PS4, Microsoft had to push back the reveal of the Xbox One because it was so much embarrassingly worse than the PS4. It's more of an entertainment box than a gaming console, but nobody who doesn't play the games it is offering will buy it so it's not a good strategy. It was smart of Sony to keep things the same as far as used games and online mode. Microsoft was totally going to stand their ground until they realized that Xbox preorders were totally abysmal, not because they cared about the outrage of all the gamers. I feel like they have to prove to everyone that they are worthy of being trusted again.

Batty: I don't blame you. I won't be getting it until the second version of it comes out probably...I love my 360 and it still works perfectly fine (I have one of the originals...xD).

Lucid: I understand the point, and I honestly think that they both still have a ways to go before they will be the systems that their respective companies want them to be (also in the eyes of the gamers). Yes, it is more of an entertainment box, but that are trying to appeal to a wider crowd; I have a feeling that once the system is out and a lot of the bugs are worked out there will be more buyers along with a wider market...that goes for the PS4 as well.

The only thing I'm a bit bummed about (or rather will be once it comes out) is not being able to get/play Kingdom Hearts 3 since I won't be getting either console until later on.

The PS3 finally started to outsell the 360 worldwide a couple of months ago, the fact that the PS3 came out a year later is pretty good news to hear at the end of a life cycle. Besides, I bet most of those Xbox's sold were all all replacements to people who lost theirs due to the Red Ring of Death or any other kind of problems.. (I have a lot of friends who bought 2-4 Xbox's because their old ones broke. That's a lot of extra sales for Microsoft..)

Now flashback to the upcoming consoles, the Xbox One pre-orders were extremely bad, Microsoft received a huge backlash, and Sony was riding on Microsoft's foot being shot by.. Microsoft.. MULTIPLE TIMES. The whole Xbox One thing has been a huge embarrassment in my eyes, but I'm happy they pulled their 180.

Overall this next generation of console wars all 3 companies figured out that they need more golden exclusives, and they are all pushing efforts to get indie developers to create games exclusively for their systems because they are all looking for the next Journey, or even a upcoming developer who can make amazing triple A games.

Yay batty!! I wanted a ps3 but with the release of the ps4 this winter I think ill get that. Imnot worried about the backward compatibility cause I still have myps2. Any ps3 games will hopefully be available fot download or streaming via gaikai. (:
