Cooking disasters!

So.
This is the first time I have ever made potato soup.

It's tasty, but it still needs something, and I totally just burned my tongue trying to figure out what and no one is home to help my with flavours.

I really hope it's eatable for dinner tonight. REALLY!

Also there was this time I tried to make eggplant. My man is there eating it when I sit down to take a bit and it was so horrible I spit it across the table. T was eating it to be nice - I told him he was crazy and we ate something else.

So - What about you?!

That would be the time I burned the cabbage and turned the garlic bits into little black crisps while making some manner of Jaque Pepin recipe. It evened out though. The sausages and potatoes were cooked perfectly. I have since stuck with cooking on medium to low heat.

People can cook = what. how. how do you do that. Stop that sorcery. Actually, teach me.

My dad is something of a chef, so I've picked up some stuff through osmosis and observation. Start with a kid's cookbook and go from there, really, or look up recipes by Alton Brown. He's like cooking for dummies. Easy to follow stuff. Otherwise, trial and error.

I like to cook things I buy from the "ready to cook" section of Publix. Take off the wrapping, and it's all set to go!

Makes it very hard to have cooking disasters. :P

Eggplant: Boil and butter. It may end up kind of mushy.

I don't cook much...the worst disaster I had wa smaking hot cocoa...I fell asleep while I was trying to get the water to boil. That pot was thrown away.

My early cooking endeavors generally consisted of box food, and making it slightly fancier. For instance, adding some extra sharp cheddar to Kraft Dinner, or throwing some carrots in with frozen Swedish meatballs. Decent enough place to start. I've yet to destroy any kitchen utensils, but I've managed to slice my finger open a couple of times.

The most difficult part of cooking for me, is actually dealing with a stove or oven, as it makes me antsy. Apparently I burned myself when I was around three (not to mention the other two times later on) so I suppose I now have some internalized fear of hot metal.

I set fire to an oven in high school once. Last class made cinnamon rolls and there was still some sticky shit stuck to a pan at the bottom or something. My group was full of bitches and I was the odd one out. They told me to preheat the oven for whatever it was we were baking, and somehow I missed that the teacher told us not to preheat our ovens. Halfway through class, the teacher is rushing over to our station with a fire extinguisher. My teammates told the teacher it was my fault because I was the one who preheated the oven. Let's just say no one wanted me in their group after that.

I got switched to a group full of boys who were troublemakers. I accidentally burnt the toast in that group because some jackass set the toaster to the highest setting. Who the hell toasts their toast on the highest setting? No one. That's why I didn't think to adjust the setting.

I'm way better at cooking on my own with no distractions, and when people don't purposely try to get me to burn down a school.

There are some not so tasty stories here! ;)

I was boiling some eggs one day and forgot to set a timer. I got distracted and lost track of time. Luckily enough, nothing caught fire, but an egg did explode, and the pot was blackened inside on the bottom... >.>

Other than that, I've been relatively lucky with my cooking adventures.

Fauxreal 02-06-2014 07:15 PM

Egg explosion!

HAHA! That sounds awesome.

Kilala Mikal 02-06-2014 07:20 PM

I was at the other end of the house. My husband came and told me about it... I was embarrassed..He said he heard a "ka-thoonk" and was like, what the eff was that?? I was completely oblivious.

I set off the fire alarm with grilled cheese once. I also managed to burn water, which I am deeply ashamed of //throws self to ground

I'm actually a good cook, I swear, but I have moments...

Nothing to be ashamed of! I think everybody has those moments every now and again.

I'm not a great cook. But I do like to cook every once in a while. My boy is not that bad a cook. Though...

... come to think of it it's mostly slow cooker stuff he makes.
