Compliments to Strangers

Today I went for a walk and somebody told me they had been admiring my outfit! My bf teased me that it wasn't even a sympathy pregnancy thing because they had been looking at me from behind.

Nobody has ever complimented my clothing before (unless I was wearing like a doctor who t-shirt or something) and it was pretty exciting.

It made me think I should try and compliment people more rather than just keep my thoughts to myself. How do you feel about random compliments? Creepy? Nice?

Compliments are always nice, of course! Go for it. :D

...Though, if this involves running across the street or something just to tell them, then run back, might be a bit odd. :P

I find compliments from random strangers to be kind of creepy.

I had some random girl at Walmart approach us at self-checkout and tell my husband that he looked like Ben Stiller.

I wasn't sure if it was an actual compliment or her trying to flirt with my husband.

i offer compliments to strangers pretty regularly, it seems to do more good than harm so i say go for it, though toho has a point XD dont go out of your way to do it or it can come off as creepy

don't run so they can hear you, just scream. use a megaphone if you have one.

Tohopekaliga 11-12-2016 12:07 AM

To go with Galla's fantastic suggestion, also be sure to sound as angry as possible while shouting into your megaphone!

mention 'trump' as well

Random compliments are nice. Only, most people on the street look like they don't want to be disturbed, me included xD.

To me, it depends. "Fine young man" is sort of something I hear from folk I dislike enough that it isn't a comforting thing...in addition to the other stuff there. "I like your outfit" Makes me smile, though.

I love giving people compliments =D
That is when I get the nerve up to say something to them XD
It usually makes them smile, or starts a small conversation up because what I said makes the person excited.
Only rarely has it turned weird where they give me a look like wtf am I doing XD

Potironette 11-12-2016 09:46 PM

I'm bad at offering people compliments = =;;
Lots of times I think of stuff people would say as compliments, but it never crosses my mind to actually say any of it.

When people compliment me I'm happy, but I also give people that "wtf [is that person] doing" look o_o

I told a stranger I liked their shoes once. I got ignored, lol. So I feel awkward giving total strangers compliments. If it's known strangers, much more easier to handle imo.

Tohopekaliga 11-14-2016 03:23 PM

Well...if they're a known stranger...are they still strangers? XD

It's not cool to completely ignore someone being nice to you, what ever the case. :(

lovelacedroses 11-14-2016 03:37 PM

Yes, I see them but don't know them all too well. Like a step below acquaintances.
Well, that's my reasoning at least. XD

Maybe she thought I was mocking her. Her style was goth-like punk and mine was preppy at the time. One thing for sure was I meant what I said. I don't compliment without reason. Makes it hard to be taken somewhat seriously when you poop out rainbows in front and poop out venom out back.

Tohopekaliga 11-14-2016 03:38 PM

XD ...Well. That's a lotta poopin'.

And okay, I think I know what you mean now. :)

lovelacedroses 11-14-2016 03:42 PM

Heh, that small talk time is a lot of air imo. XD
