Pickles and Milk

So- Right now I have pickles and milk, and my mom came down and told me it was bad for me.
I've been eating pickles with milk since I was a small child, she's always told me that.
But I've always wondered why.

Does anyone know why you're not supposed to have Pickles with Milk?
Are there any other foods you've found are bad with milk?
Or bad concoctions in general?

i rather suspect shes just saying that cos she thinks its gross ><

welllllll, it could be because the acidity of the pickle brine might curdle the milk in your stomach and make you sick...but you'd have to drink a loooooot of both right after each other for that to really happen I would think.

@Ashy- Knowing my Mum.. xD I wouldn't be surprised.

@Fey- I've actually drank.. A whole jar of pickle juice and a cup of milk. ^^; For 10 dollars... I'm pretty sure you're right. xD But it has no affect on me..It's never made me sick, then again I wouldn't know.
I get randomly sick for no reason. xD

well, logically it wouldn't really do much, your stomach is FULL of much stronger acid, so if that was gonna be an issue no one would drink milk. but odd beliefs often hold sway when logic proves otherwise.

MuseSick 07-29-2011 12:02 AM

That is true. It also probably has a lot to do with what I ate as a kid.. When you think about it- even logically if you build up an almost amune to acids- then they wont has as much of an affect on you as they would the average person.

Well, the thought of these two together makes me want to gag.....so....someday it might make you sick.

Pickle juice is an acid, but doesn't help you digest the milk. Stomach acid has an enzyme for digesting milk (more than likely) and that's probably a reason why it could possibly make you sick. But I dunno.

MuseSick 07-29-2011 10:37 AM

I have no idea either. xD I'm no doctor. To me I just really like Milk, so I guess I just developed the habit of pickles and milk when I was younger xD So I mean I hear a lot that it's not good for you, but I've never had anything happen surrounding it.

xD I think the only thing I've learned recently that tastes AWFUL if you drink milk after is grapefruit.. ^^;

Fey 07-29-2011 09:53 PM

oh, see I don't mind milk after grapefruit, in fact most mornings I'll pair 'em up to get all balanced and stuff LOL
really, most of existing is bad for us, it's a matter of not doing more bad than good....

MuseSick 07-29-2011 10:41 PM

Really? xD It tastes so icky. My Mum never told me, and asdfghjkl; I was like "EEEKKK -drink water-

Holly 07-29-2011 11:15 PM

I'd have to agree that she probably just thinks it's gross.
Because I doubt there is really anything wrong with it.

MuseSick 07-30-2011 10:11 AM

That actually kind of does sound like something my mom would do. xD

It probably has to deal with pickles being an acidic food, mixing it with milk(which is a base) can upset your stomach. It's why you cant eat vinegar and milk. It creates disruption in your stomach and could make you sick.

Pop rocks and soda is another bad concoction idea. From personal experience...I can't think of any terrible combinations to share. Though I'm sure I do know some.

MuseSick 08-12-2011 09:42 PM

.__.; I've done that before..
I friend paid me $10 to let them pour a whole pack of pop rocks in my mouth, and some soda.
D: It kinda hurt swallowing it xD

I think people always think of coke and mentos o.0

LOL, at least your tummy didn't explode (but that myth has been debunked)
