site stalled out
it's 4:55 am and the site only just got back up after something like a five minute stall-out
<< not sure if it was just me though, but all the other sites were working for me |
This happens to me sometimes with Trisphee.
I just open another tab and go do something else for a few minutes. Is it a bigger deal than I thought? oO I just figure these things happen. |
it happens to me too but it's usually half this long and during high-tread hours
4:55 AM? Sounds like you hit the nightly maintenance. That's normal and one of these days I need to make a nice polite "hey, the site's unavailable for a few minutes" screen come up while that's running.
oh, i see^^: well i get to do the over-night thing once a week so i didn't know, sorry and thankyou for telling me
You could go the other way with that and make a slightly misleading "you broke it!" message. Bonus points for inserting our usernames.
"Well Littl3Chocobo looks like you broke Trisphee. Sheesh. Thanks." Of course I can see the pitfall of having 101 threads along the lines of "Oh noes I didn't mean to break it. What did I do?" |
hehe, if you disclaime that statement under it in parenthasese it'd be funny
That's a hilarious idea but I actually CAN'T do that -- during nightly maintenance I can't read the database for anything, not even looking up your username.
then leave of the name, have it be an auto redirect, or can you not code that?
A redirect would annoy me. ^^; Actually I was just going to have the page common code cancel the normal code path and display the message without changing the URL.
ah, but what about the mirror site thinger, the 'other' trisphee.com?
That's crazy. So it's like the site disappears completely for a few minutes?
I'm probably wrong on that, I know nada about tech stuff. |
There's not a mirror site; it's just two domain names pointing to the same server.
And... well, pretty much, for anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes each night Trisphee just stops responding. |
so then what is with the log-outs and why shouldn't we log in with it, i thought it was a fragment of beta
The only reason to suggest against it is that some browsers don't handle it right and will get "stuck" logged in if you have cookies on both versions of the domain name. If you stick to one exclusively, like I do, it doesn't matter WHICH you use.
i see, well my new laptop only has the one ver so it does not matter
