Problem solved, nevermind~
I figured this would be the best place to ask for tech help.
I accidentally dropped it on the floor yesterday, but it was working fine until this morning. I went on Trisphee, checked out the new monthlies, bought one and started making an avatar. Then it froze. So I closed it, and tried to open IE again. It wouldn't. I restarted, but it stopped at a black screen with a white arrow cursor. I turned it off then back on using the power button. Same thing. I turned it off and took out the battery and put it back in. But when I turned it on again, same thing. I have a Dell Inspiron (less than 6 months old) with Windows 7 if any of this helps. I won't respond right away because I have to go to school. With no laptop. EDIT: Problem solved! (for now) |
There's a decent chance that all it is is that something (a cable, component, etc.) was jarred loose from the drop. If that's the case, the only way to not void the warranty on the laptop is for a Dell certified technician to open it and repair it. Not a hard fix unless something was actually damaged. Question though, how high was the laptop up before the drop?

Heheheh..... A little lower than my hip. It was on a desk and I tripped over the cord >>;;; Some pieces of plastic casing actually did break off from the side, but it doesn't look that bad considering.

Unfortunately the case outside may not look bad, but the interior electronics being more delicate can suffer damage or disruption by minor shocks. All it takes is it hitting in just the right way.
As for height, not too bad. Guessing it didn't have a case on it though. A suggestion, once fixed, might be to get a rubberized case that can distribute and absorb a bit more of the shock. |
(Okay, so I lied, I'm staying on for a bit.)
I don't have any kind of case. I keep it in my backpack to go to and from school. .... Now I guess I should get something >>; Thanks for your help, but I'm not sure how my dad is going to take this. .... We just had a few other computer crises (one of them being my laptop) and he's getting sick of technology breaking. To be honest, I am too. Stuff seems to be way more delicate nowadays. |
Just depends on what exactly it is and how well built it is. Most electronics are kinda delicate in comparison to most everything else. Why I use a pretty hard case for my phone and a case for my laptop as well. And sometimes it just a matter of it hitting in just the wrong way so that it jostles it in a specific way.
It could also just be that it needs to sit for a bit. I'd say let it sit and try again later. |

Omfgasdfghjk it works. I let it sit for the whole day and for some reason now it works. I was so afraid I killed it TT^TT Thanks for the advice Alpha, I never thought to just leave it alone o.o;

I know you said problem solved, but I have to say something. There was something wrong with my mother's motherboard in her computer (not a laptop, but still applies)...it would work sometimes if you'd wait and try it again.
