Virus Protection / Prevention - What's Your Personal Choice

So, what's your virus protection of choice and why?

Personally, I used Norton on one labtop and Avast on this one. I don't know much about virus protection programs, but I heard good things about Avast and decided to try it. XD

avg was my provider for a couple years, i hear the free version sucks but i don't trust the free version of anything that is not time-restrictive, there is no reason to give out anything of quality for free when you are trying to sell the same thing

So far, I have the free version of Avast, but that's because I don't have the money for the paid-version. >.<

ah, well i wish sweetie luck, i could be wrong, i have not tried every brand afterall

*will happily accept luck* I plan to upgrade as soon as I can. Better safe than sorry, after all.

I use the free version of Avira, ZoneAlarm firewall, and scan regularly with Malware Bytes/Super Anti-spyware/Spybot Search&Destroy. I haven't had a virus in well over a year now, possibly two.

Microsoft security essentials, spy bot SND, and TDSS killer by Kaspersky.
MSE bc it doesnt eat up cpu usage for scans and it works for me.
SB SND bc it finds and terminates malware and spyware.
TDSS Killer to remove rootkits before they start any funny things

I use Norton. Since it comes free with my internet. But for years I used AVG. I really loved that one.

Norton KILLS computer speeds.

I have AVG free and it's great. It has what I need-the antivirus. The paid version though has tech support when needed where the free does not.

These are the differences
Paid has these whereas Free does not:

AVG Online Shield™ for safe downloading
Checks files before you download them
AVG Online Shield™ for safe chatting
Secures online chat links
Receive priority updates
Expert technical support

I use the free version of Avira and I haven't had a virus in years.

Others I know swear by Microsoft Security Essentials though.

katyasha 02-03-2012 04:53 PM

I use Avast and Mal-ware on mine twice a month to make sure things are alright and no viruses are on my computer.

Yokuutsu 02-04-2012 12:30 AM

Microsoft Security Essentials GAVE me a virus apparently. It couldn't get rid of it and it started messing up -.-

Got AVG back and it immediately found and got rid of the virus.

I use Avast. I'm cheap, it's free, I haven't had any problems. I'm super careful anyway, I use NoScript and AdBlock and try to stay off shady sites (Web of Trust helps), scan everything I download before I even open the Downloads folder, etc.

Plus I full scan about once a week... more than that this week since I changed the day it scans.

AVG's done more for me than Norton or McAfee's ever done. I also use Spybot and Malwarebytes, just in case.
