there's still the link on the homepage, but it doesn't show anything really when I go to it. Is it gone?

The event has ended. So yes the game is gone.

but there's a new event item... how can we get it if the event is over?

We were told that there was a secret item to be released at the end of the event, and we were advised to save up currency for it. The event shop will remain open for a week in order to give users a chance to finish unpacking their rubies and treasures, and buy the items they want.
