I pick my skin...

Its a form of OCD in some cases and just a compulsion in other cases.

http://www.skinpick.com/ has some graphs showing who/how many are effected and it has 3% had it in the past.. and only 1% stopped and succeeded...

I have been doing this ever since I can remember and my mom did it as well..

I mainly pick around my nails and finger tips.. When I am under alot of stress I kind of zone out and just pick alot then realize later how much I picked.. I don't have cuticles.. It bugs the crap out of me to see skin on my nails..

So what are your bad habits or "disorders"?

Demonskid 07-31-2012 09:02 PM

I have a habit to pick the skin off of my lips when I'm nervous or Bored.

Pocket 07-31-2012 09:36 PM

I do that too..lol.

Demonskid 07-31-2012 09:53 PM

I'm not the only one!

I've been known to pick at my lips and I sometimes pick at my skin, and now have scars from it. I cant' just leave them alone either =/ I tried putting bandaids on. Woke up with the bandaids off and a fresh scab.

Serra Britt 07-31-2012 10:15 PM

I tend to pick at stuff too...I try not to but I seem to unconsciously do it whenever I'm bored. I pick at scabs and my lips, and the skin around my nails too, much as I wish I'd stop that.

Lioshika 07-31-2012 10:21 PM

Serra; it's embarrassing but I do that too. I try to not do the scabs at work because the blood and then the issue of what is around work that could get into the wound and potentially infect it. I've had that happen a few times. So I try to make sure to be careful about those kind of things.

Some I do unconsciously.

yeah i pick at my fingers, chew my nails, and bite the inside of my mouth :P

littl3chocobo 08-01-2012 05:56 AM

it could for some of you actually be hyper-grooming not ocd though there is not much of a difference other than one only has those symptoms and the other is part of a bigger /deeper/ problem

and wtf is a cuticle X''D i have physically ripped the whole thing out before if i have forgotten it though typing a lot makes me less prone to biting my nails though i was offline for half of the day and bit one to the flesh and the other i have exposed nail bed >_o i forgot how much that shit hurt but a +300 page novel left me with a free hand

this is /not/ my hand though at the worst of my biting i got about halfway to this point; http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._thumbnail.JPG

mines never gone as bad as that pic either choco ><

yeah its usually my mouth when im stressed and my fingers when im bored or hungry

littl3chocobo 08-01-2012 11:01 AM

i can dig out about half my nail before i get to leave it alone, it sucks ^^;

Coda 08-01-2012 03:04 PM

The cuticle is the little bit of skin that covers the base of your nail.

I do this too. I'll pick at sores without even realizing I'm doing it. I'll sometimes nibble on the skin on my lips or at the edges of my fingertips (like at the corners of the nail or under the edge of the nail).

It's not TOO bad for me, though, almost certainly not at the "mania" level -- for example, if I DON'T have any sores, I won't mess with them.

littl3chocobo 08-01-2012 06:22 PM

i was being fastidious sweetie

Pocket 08-01-2012 07:34 PM

I should take picks of my hands... some times its bad but then other times it mild. Next week at work is going to be a very stressful week so I am pretty sure my fingers will look bad...lol.

When I worked in fast food I hated having my hands in water for long points of time cuz it would cause the edges of skin where I stopped picking to show up..

Twigg 08-01-2012 07:59 PM

I tend to pick at my lips whenever they get dry, to the point where they hurt. And I also tend to pick at my skin whenever a circle of dead skin pops up, or the skin underneath my nails in general.. I never noticed how frequent I picked until I stopped to think about it.

I don't have a disorder, but I have this urge to pull out my hair one by one when I'm under stress. Sometimes, compulsive smoking.
