Names scarred by movies

what names used in movies do you consider to be scarred by that movie and why? for example i think that adam sandler movie scarred the name Develin. why? because it was used to referrence solid waste(poop).

Interesting topic. Um, I love the name Casper, but thanks to movies, it's connected to a certain friendly ghost...

Soul Dreamer 08-15-2012 08:10 PM

That is true and then there's the name Jacob. Now scarred by twilight.

Fey 08-15-2012 08:34 PM

I've never thought of it that way...I mean, certain names trigger movies, books or shows, but I can't think of a specific name that I would ONLY associate to, or associate badly because of, a movie.

I mean, I never liked the name Edward or Bella or Buffy, but I certain NOW wouldn't be any more inclined to use them.

I used to like the name Bella until Twilight happened.

Yea alot of movies can sway your choice in names.

Truthfully, I loved the name Alice, (and even though Alice was one of the few good characters in Twilight) I would think twice about using it.

On another note, I had never thought of really liking Ginny, Minerva, Molly, Lavender, or Lily until Harry Potter, but now I've kind of grown attached to them.

Soul Dreamer 08-15-2012 11:33 PM

That is true some names have become more popular due to movies while others lost some popularity.

I think most Twilight names are ruined save maybe Alice since it is fairly common. Fantasy character names on the other hand I think will see a rise. The way entertainment is going, the more "nerdy" stuff is becoming more popular. I know I plan to name my kids after fantasy characters.

Soul Dreamer 08-18-2012 03:34 PM

I see what your saying but I think ima create my kids' names

Names being used in a movie doesn't make a bean of difference to me, unless I've never seen the name used anywhere *but* a movie. I notice it more when they are associated with real people, not that it would bug me to use a certain name but it would annoy me to have people assume that I named my kid after someone when I didn't.

Fauxreal 08-20-2012 02:48 AM

Well - my real name is the name of a cartoon and an avenger. <3

Fey 08-20-2012 10:13 AM

Faux now I want to play the name guessing game...I'm quite good at it at times, but I don' know if you LIKE your name or not(as someone who does NOT like their name I try to not assume)

Mal Kapwn 08-20-2012 11:23 AM

While I do associate names from popular movies with names that I hear, I'm not sure it actually makes that much of a difference to me.

Soul Dreamer 08-21-2012 12:32 AM

I guess it makes a difference to some but not all... It may just mean more when you think about what to name your kids and don't want people to assume where the name came from.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-21-2012 01:14 AM

I do wonder about people thinking about where a name came from, and it's something that I am curious about myself, but movies are not the first thing I think of. For instance, when I think "Alice" I immediately think of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland because of how long it's been around, and I also haven't known anyone named Alice. While I like the name "Jacob" to me it's a Biblical name. Twilight doesn't even come to mind.

I find it does make a difference if I've met people with a particular name. For instance one of my grandmother's names was Zena (or Xena, not sure how it was spelt). I never would have thought of giving a kid that name before I knew that because to me it was always attached to the TV show and I thought it didn't exist anywhere else.
