In a Tight Position

So I'm basically blind. I have really terrible vision and my contacts are quite expensive. The last box I got had 6 pairs. Each pair lasts 2 weeks before you're supposed to throw them away and get a new pair. I got this box about 2 years ago.

Well I'm STILL wearing the last pair of those contacts. I really need new ones, not only because my eyes are in danger, but because if I rip this pair or one falls out I have NO backup. That's bad because I'm literally blind without them. I'd have no way to go to college. No way to draw for my rent money. I'd be totally and utterly screwed.

I really hate glasses, but I'm not stupid. I went to the only place I could afford without insurance which happened to be.. Walmart. Not only did he yell at me for taking too long on the vision test, but when he gave me my glasses, he gave me the wrong prescription. It was so bad I couldn't even adjust if I really wanted to.
Now here is where I should have marched back in and demanded new ones, and I did ask, but I was told there was nothing he could do. Honestly I was just a little upset, but figured that's Walmart and for the worlds cheapest glasses it wasn't going to get much better.

So I left. That was in December of 2011, so it's far too late to go back now.

I tried to call my old eye doctor and get my prescription so I could get some "black market" contacts.. but they refused to give me my own prescription because it was out of date.

I guess what I'm wondering is, is there any way to get cheap contacts online without a doctors prescription? I just need SOMETHING. I actually think I ripped this pair a teeny bit and now my eye is irritated as hell. But I just can't afford to not see. :/ Or afford proper eye care for that matter.

This sucks.

Ever try 1800contacts? I am trying them out this year and i haven't seen them ask for a doctors prescription.
... Nm they do

BakedGewds 08-24-2012 06:35 PM

Wow. How the heck have I not heard of this site.
Thank you Tiva<3

I'll give em a try.

Tiva 08-24-2012 06:38 PM

They verify the prescription... but one exam like from walmart... is all you need for however many you want to buy. I just asked my roommate who uses them.

BakedGewds 08-24-2012 06:44 PM

That's what I was afraid of. I refuse to go back to walmart, or use them as a reference since he has the completely wrong prescription wrote down for me. :/ I'd get crap contacts. I can't use my old doctor either becuase he says my prescription is outdated and wants me in for another exam, which costs a ton.

I get my glasses from Costco. you wouldn't happen to have one near you, do you?
Sears also has them.
or in worst case you could try and google places near you.

Go to a different walmart and try for a different prescription? And tell them what is wrong with the last one. bring in your past one to compare to what they think it is.

BakedGewds 08-24-2012 07:01 PM

Bleh. I just wish they didn't need a doctors prescription note. I can easily wear the prescription I got 2 years ago because I'm doing it now.

Tiva 08-24-2012 07:09 PM

Yeah.. but it is the damn US not the sites.

BakedGewds 08-24-2012 07:20 PM

o ^ o I suppose.
I guess I'll try to bear with these old things a bit longer till I can afford to get an exam.
I envy people with great vision naturally. I'm the only one in my family who needs vision help.

I'm -6.50 in both eyes. xD

I'm nearsighted and it is hard for me to see things far away without my glasses on. I'm thinking of getting a new pair soon but I'm tight for money as well so I have to wait and see what happens.

Ginger 08-29-2012 08:36 PM

I'm in the same boat as katyasha. I've only got one pair and I need them so I can start driving.

I would do as Tiva suggested. Take your wrong prescription to a different Walmart and explain your situation.

I'm -7.50 and -8.25 >.>

I second (third?) the going-to-a-different-Walmart thing.

Walmarts are pretty much connected I think. I know you can take someone bought at one walmart and return it to another. I'd take the glasses to one, explain what happened at the first walmart. Don't leave without the right precscription.

I'm near sighted and my eyes are reasonably okay as in I can navigate my way from point a to point b if I were to lose them. I take it your presctiption is too strong for the glasses that walmart sells off the rack? If you still have a pair of glasses around, you should be able to save some money by having them use the same frames and just get new lenses put in.
