at home, I found him in the kitchen this morning

Oh god. I'm sorry, Willis. Though I kinda feel like that would be better than having to take him to the vet and watch it happen in a cold, sterile environment.

That sounds like a nice way to do it, but I can only imagine what it feels like. Seems like I have had a lot of pets, but never actually went through this.

When I saw him laying in front of the back door I though he was just asleep like always, so I went to pet him.....

That's gotta be awful... though I guess I'd take some comfort in the thought that he went in his sleep, in his own home.

when I inspected him and noticed that he was laying in a puddle of discolored urine I realized that the cause of death was likely organ failure. His kidneys must have shut down in the night. It would only have been a matter of hours at that point...
