Did you find a MySQL function for accent-neutral searches, or did you just replace all non-ASCII characters with wildcards?

The MySQL keyword "LIKE" performs accent-neutral searches.

Oh that's right. I was the one who switched those columns to Unicode. XD They used to be Latin-1 and blew up pretty bad.
