yeah, i feel you. i don't really know about other editions, but i've played 5e, and i've played 3.5, so i've played with and without that stuff mattering, haha

tbh, i have no idea which edition it even was.

i have noooo idea which one was relevant then, i was not exposed to the game until i was an older teenager

yeah, my first game was in the ...80s. 1986 or 87. so something early. XD

huh, that's really cool. i've always been interested in what the classic stuff was like, y'know, cuz i came in when there was already like. so. much.

so much stuff.

here's what i do remember: out DM set the campaign in a creepy cave-like place that was supposed to be like where the aliens kept the human food in Aliens. (which came out in 86.... i didn't see Aliens until a few year later)

I’m in like. 1.5 D&D games. The 1 is my very first one, and the 0.5 is, uh, it’s just me and two friends, one of whom’s the DM? But the other friend and I have done a lot more headcanoning than actually getting our characters down in writing and the DM is a bit exasperated.

Kenku rogue (arcane trickster) in one and tabaxi monk (way of four elements, redux) in the other. Both chaotic neutral, to no one’s surprise.

During my most memorable session one guy ended up spending eternity in a very deep hoistway (he had a feat that would slow down his fall enough for him to survive and a magical item keeping him from starvation), two marched straight into a black hole they mistook for a portal, and another player lost all of his clothes. In hindsight I guess we deserved it, because our way to identify traps was to run them over with a mule called Bob and a dozen of his clones.
