seriously, call your district manager, it doesn't matter how short staffed they are, they CANNOT make you work more than you're available without your approval.

@Lio~ I have issues with bosses that don't show respect to their workers or have enough fortitude to listen to them and try to make it easier for them to work for them. But maybe I'm expecting to much -shrugs-

Trak; Mine sure as hell don't respect us. They tend to think they can push us around. I keep getting told it's company policy I have to tuck my shirt in. I'm the only one who has been sent to the bathroom to do so. When I asked why didn't Paul have to she told me it was because it was because he had the old shirt on. I was told regardless of new or old shirt we had to.

yeeeeeeah, managers should be better than that, and to find the district managers name you can look online, and if that fails you call the main customer complaint line, trust me, they don't like that LOL

that would be something posted at your work site...but they're supposed to have that plus HRs number posted where employees can find it. OH, you might try calling another store that's close to you and ask for the district managers name and contact info...they have to give it to you, just don't tell 'em you're an employee, say you're a customer.

No place of employment can force you to work. They have to give you a reasonable amount of notice and you have to okay it before working it. I mean you even have school so they should be accommodating you not the other way around. And if they are under staffed then they need to hire more people. They'd be able to fill any spot with in a few days if they were really trying. Just sounds like a whole lot of bs if they are under staffed. Your only part time so they either need to start giving you full time benefits ( if there are any ) and paying you as a full time employee. I've worked at a few places that payed part time works just min. wage and full time got about 2-3 dollars more.

Fey; I think HR is posted in the break room. Now if I can get a break to go look at it.

Trak; They didn't even give me notice of my shift change tomorrow. I found out by accident and kept telling Autumn I could not change my plans to work it. I sadly have to work it regardless. This is what Bob says about hiring new people (Literally quoted): "I am trying to find girls who won't bring drama into the store." They've been trying for months. Had several interviews with people. I'm not quite full time of 40 hours. I get 7.65 and we're not allowed to know who makes what. Easy techs got a huge raise, one scoffed at my 15 cent an hour. And his start pay, never had experience before was more than mine.

But you should try and talk to someone in the HR area first. Get a transfer to some place closer to home. Tell the district guy you are trying to avoid the drama that's starting to form. And whats wrong with hiring guys >:V

I can't just not show up. They know I know because I argued with Autumn about it. Plus I now hear that you can be fired after 3 no call no show. I've done 2 already. But nobody has told me a thing about how they function in those legal regards.

Okay, as a former manager:
1) your availability is what you CAN work; this means they CANNOT schedule you for times that are not listed on that paperwork
2) You are listed as full time or part time, if you are full time you MUST have the minimum amount of fedrealy mandated hours(I beleive that's 36 now); if you are part time you can work as few hours as three, but no more than 40.
3) All stores must have an open door policy when dealing with internal issues; if you are not comfortable going to internal managment you must be given the number of HR and/or your district manager.
4) All hiring must be equal opportunity/unbiased due to race and/or gender. Anything else is in violation of people's civil rights.
5) All employees are required to take one ten minute paid break for every four hours worked and one twenty minute unpaid lunch break for every five hours.


So, if your manager isn't allowign you breaks, they're violating number 5, this is a federal law. If they're 'selectively' hiring, their in violation of number 4, also a federal law. As an employee you already feel you can't deal with this internally, and must go externally. I would mention these other problems at hte same time, sounds like your manager is asking to be fired.

Trak; Since November, yes. I didn't know I was scheduled to work.

Fey; 1. I haven't seen what she is putting me for during school, but I put down times I couldn't work because of class, Said no more than 15 hours of work per week, but she insists 30. Problem is I told her I can't handle that many hours of work and school I don't care if it is one week.

2.I am listed Part Time. I was told full time is 40. I was almsot 3 hours short of that next week. She wanted me to work an additional 1-9:30 shift. She said she could try and have someone work another of my shifts so I'd have a day off. . . Hell no.

3. I DID talk to a manager above her. He told me basically what she said. I have to. They don't have enough cashiers.

4. We can't talk about our pay so there is no proof.

5. NY is 15 minute breaks for a four hour shift, 30 minute lunch. The problem with Staples is, they do 45 minute unpaid lunches. But on the break schedule and work schedule it shows you working say 1-9:30, that's 8.5 hours, but it will only subtract a half hour lunch, so it says you're pay would be 8. BUT they take 45 minutes off your pay for lunch because it is a 45 minute lunch, though everything says 30 minutes.

There were a lot of times there was nobody to cover so I could have a break. And That is HOW he said it. My mom's jaw dropped when I said that, she came out of her room stark naked to look at my face to make sure I wasn't kidding. And of course he said it after Nicole left so I have no witnesses.
