I never use someone as a "substitute". Each person has their own standing.

Though my teddy fills in for sometimes when I'm lonely in bed.

I used to hug a pillow every night. Now it doesn't feel that comfy anymore, but I bet it's because of the heat :/

Could be. I find I cling and look for my Teddy more and more these days. It's like a regression on my part. A way from stress I guess.

Just hugging/cuddling helps a lot from my experience. Might be why I miss it so much myself :/
