I usually make sure to try to use them. It doesn't always get incorporated in the end result, but I still try to use them in something else. Like the Unexpected Mummy Bandages colors. I'm quite fond of them, but still haven't found a good way to use them yet.

Just saw your post after I submitted, but I would be afraid of more cactus clones and am tempted to avoid using the new items.
