Seems everyone else has the rest of the topics covered, however, I wanted to say that with becoming a writer it can be hard, however, I've seen some pretty poorly written stories turn out to be really popular

Some of the stories people published online, in contests, or going through the publisher. Some of them require the stories to be well written before accepting it at a publisher, however, they have people that will work with you on it.
(Knows a few people who actually had to deal with publishers, and had to help with formatting a word document for them to print it, etc.)
