You'd imitate it with a varied, not-completely-opaque texture -- give it some highlights and shadows to hint at the lines where it's all curling in the same direction. I could pull it off if I took some time to do it; I'm a competent pixelist, just an awful artist. Give me the shapes already put down in the right place and I can shade and texture. Main reason I don't do more of it is that I'm REALLY slow, and I hard-pixel so my style doesn't fit in with Trisphee's very well.
