"I'm not sure?" Indigo sighed before he reached out. He held up his hand when Mello jerked back. "I'm going to take the IV out so you can go... and at least let me help you! You're so drugged that you'd stumble all over and knock down some poor innocent cancer patient..."
Giving a sigh, Indigo took out the IV and helped Mello up. He knew the blonde would refuse a wheel chair, but would probably let him help... after he realized that his leg had only just been re-set and he was so high on pain killers that he couldn't walk straight.
"Get off me!" Mello tried to shove off Indigo and stumbled over into the table off to the side- blinking in surprise as the world spun suddenly. "Ah, shit! My leg!"
He looked down at the brace they had it in and frowned.
"I'll get someone to find out about Near," Indigo informed. "For now you should stay with Next and the kid... whoever he is." He frowned. "You really don't remember him? Pale skin... dark hair... Looks kind of like your husband. A little..."
He practically carried Mello down the hall and up to a door, which he pushed open, revealing a room where someone was laying on the bed and Next was beside them, his head down.
"...Next!" Mello pushed off and Indigo and managed to stumble himself over to the bed, which he gripped to keep himself upright.
He was panting and had his eyes closed as he waited for his head slow down and catch up with him. Those damned doctors weren't happy unless they were pushing more drugs than a local pharmacy into him. He reminded himself to get back at K for this.
Slowly, as he opened his eyes, he could have sworn he went deaf... he couldn't hear the rain outside, couldn't hear the IV dripping, couldn't hear the sounds of people outside of the room...
There was just him and the boy laying in front of him, beneath soft white blankets... floating in limbo... in a white space between death and life.
Mello stared- sure that he'd died or gone completely bat-shit insane. The boy that was resting- almost peacefully, it seemed -beneath the folds of the sheets and blankets couldn't be who he seemed. It was impossible and even in his drug induced state he knew that. But there he was. Soft features, curly black hair, milky skin- though not nearly has stark-white as Near. But there he was.
He was vaguely aware of people around him before suddenly the sounds came back as the door to the room closed. Looking up, Mello realized that Indigo had left and that Next was now beside him, gripping his hand.
