Uh, help me out here, Carmen Sandiego... something to do with the introduction of standardized coinage itself? I remember an episode where the general public was asked to turn in their metals to smelt and mint, and the president's wife (possibly Mrs Washington?) started with a good example and gave her tea service. But not sure if that campaign got a name, and if so, whether said name was "pennies for the president" (obviously in that case it would be all about creating those pennies in the first place, not collecting them from anyone else)

The Wizard of Oz was actually contained a political commentary on a United States president. Which one and for what reason?
Teddy Roosevelt, emerald city represented the fake value of green money, and the silver shoes were a representation of the gold and silver standard |

Random fun fact: Back when homosexuality was illegal, gay men sometimes used the cover term "friends of Dorothy". Which later on led to the military believing there was an actual woman called Dorothy who was the central figure in a network of gay soldiers. Unsurprisingly any miliary intelligence search for that woman never brought any results.
I guess colonels don't read Wizard of Oz. |
